It's About Damn Time

Amy Winehouse has finally gone to rehab. Hopefully she stays, and gets healthy. As much as I love talking crap about Amy, I do so because she is an enormous talent. Back to Black is one of the best albums I have heard in a long time and I want to hear more in the future.

"Amy decided to enter the facility today after talks with her record label, management, family and doctors," said the statement from Universal Music Group. "She has come to understand that she requires specialist treatment to continue her ongoing recovery from drug addiction and prepare for her planned appearance at the Grammy Awards. She is nominated in an incredible six categories."

"Amy entered the facility by mutual agreement and continues to receive the full support of all concerned," Universal Music Group said in the statement. "Amy is the most talented and important musical artist of her generation and has made huge strides on her road to recovery. Universal Music Group wants nothing more than to see her take the time she needs to come back to full health and fulfill her incredible potential with the label."

The statement added: "The label has always had the best interests of Amy at heart and has been guided by her family and doctors in the last few months as to the best direction to take. All concerned feel that Amy must put her health before all other considerations and will be by her side whenever and wherever they are needed."

As I said earlier this week, her label could probably give a rat's ass about her except for the fact that she makes them money. However, I do hope they are doing this out of her well being and not because they want to make money off of her in the future. I do want you to notice how they still manage to inject some sleaziness in this statement by talking about how Amy and her album were nominated for six Grammy's and that she will be attending the show. Considering that the show is in a few weeks it is going to be a very short rehab, but the almighty dollar does come first. Well, actually the dollar isn't worth crap right now, so lets say the almighty Pound Sterling.

Now if they can just get her to dump her husband and get back together with her old boyfriend. Ever since she started hanging out with him again she has looked so much better. She may not have been completely sober, but at least she's no longer a falling-down bloody disaster.

moosh, but didn't she dye her hair that awful yellow after her vacation with the ex? And she was still wearing the red bra and everything. I think Ent's right, the only time she ever cleans up is when she's meeting with her dad.

I'm so happy to hear this and I wish her the best of luck. I hope she comes out rehabbed and ready to dump that asshole husband of hers.

I wish her luck and health.

Another junkie dies with another needle in her arm. Who cares? Tell me something I want to know, like who Courtney Love is fucking and sucking these days.

Shit a few weeks in rehab is better than no weeks at all. I would love to see this girl all cleaned up, sparkly and bright.

a few weeks is not enough time. she could use a good six months if she wants to live.

They should do the 'ol Keith Richards, knock her out, drain he blood, clean the badness out, put it back in and VOILA, no more addiction.

Kevin, I think that was an urban legend.

Yeah, check this out - it debunks all urban legends and this is the one about Keith:

LOL! I thought Kevin was being sarcastic. I didn't know it was a real rumor!

I saw a picture somewhere (may have been here; don't trust my memory) of her several years ago with her mother. She was so cute and friendly-looking. I want to see that Amy again.

Tracee, he probably WAS being sarcastic. You know how things go over my head...lolol.

And yes, it's a real rumor that's been going around for years.

hey jenryan'sbrain. How are you feeling today - better I hope?

mooshki said...

Yeah, she looked like shit with the blonde hair, but there was something going on behind her eyes. For a while there, she really looked like a zombie.

hey jen ryan! good to see you here.
better day?

Back to Black is a killer album..was hoping that it wouldn't kill her.

cannot wait to see what her next album will be like. anyone have her first? any good?

Well, I hate to be the Negative Nelly here, but I have my doubts that this rehab thing is going to work. She's going in because the police are investigating, not because she has a yearning to get clean. Maybe a miracle will happen.

Thought the exact same thing when I heard, Brendalove.

But hey, if it took the fear of the police to make her go, then good on her. Only time will tell if it holds or not.

Jax, I have her first--I was SUPER lucky because a really good record store here in Seattle just happened to have it last September on British import. Its more R&B and jazzy than Back to Black but I almost prefer it. Its amazing.

That being said, I also dont think rehab will take. She is a helluva a songwriter, and as I well know myself, writers often justify their substance abuse because of the "Creativity" it sparks. I think the record company might have let it go on as long as they did because they know that Amy writes her best when she's in enormous amounts of emotional pain.

... while the Keef Richards rumor may not be *entirely* true... snopes.com is full o' she-aatt on SO MANY LEVELS it ain't funny. That site ABOUNDS with Straw Man fallacies... of which they attempt to debunk/disprove in order to make their pathetic website appear to be more "credible". If you don't know what a "strawman fallacy" is... wiki it up or to paraphrase... it's using false logic to disprove an argument (or theory) by adding bits of verifiably false *info* to the oppposer's argument - adding words or "facts" which weren't stated or implied in the original argument so it can be easily discredited later as being "entirely false"... sort of like what the *CIA* did in Operation Mockingbird...

i have my own ideas about snopes... guy who runs it is a bit of a nazi. it was my first attempt EVER at being on a chat board/community. if you don't agree with his point of view, you get kicked off. seriously, i got kicked off because i didn't post (for all to see) what city i lived in.
but to be fair, they are usually pretty dead on w/ the urban legends. IDK about keith, but there IS a medical procedure where they just knock you out for the entire withdrawal period. i don't know what the longterm success rate is, but it gets the serious addict past the worst of it, and they wake up bright and shiny, ready to start the rehab process. i can see the label's jumping at this. she'd be clean for the grammys, at least.

anyway, truthfully, i've never heard any of AW's music.
all i know about her is from the internet. but i thought she'd been looking really cleaned up the past couple of days. i hope this works for her, but i don't see it happening. i agree, she needs long term care.

Snopes has some diabolical car accident photos. I STUPIDLY clicked on a pic that showed the results of a drunk teenage girl who smashed into a toll booth with daddy's sporty white convertible. Her long auburn hair was still recognizable, but it wasn't attached. That image was burned into my brain for all eternity.
