How Do You Remember The Names
I know this video has been floating around the internet today, but I am still in shock that someone would be willing to have 18 kids in the age of birth control. It looks to me like all the kids are happy and healthy and seem remarkably well put together despite having what will be 17 brothers and sisters once this 18th child is born. The thing is, the mother Michelle Duggar says this child won't be the last. Well, all I have to say is she must clean up on Mother's Day.

I'm wondering if she's going to go on birth control once she has a child with a genetic disorder. She's starting to get old, and if she keeps having babies, it's bound to eventually happen.
I saw some Discovery Channel special on this family, and it just seems messed up. They are using their big family to get attention and money. In fact, Discovery got a lot of flack for giving them there on special. I guess they gave them a lot of money.
Anyways, the family are hardcore evangelical, so birth control isn't an option. Some of the kids already seem screwed up sorta. Probably from the lack of attention. Also, in some cases, the older kids grow up faster because they help with a lot of the major parenting early. Hard for them to have friends outside of their family.
I think they are all home schooled too.
i've seen some of the reality show. they seam like a very kind, loving family.
This is just so wrong.
They're part of what's known as the "Quiverfull" movement among evangelicals--IIRC, it refers to a Bible verse that describes a man's sons as arrows in his quiver, and the whole idea is to "fill your quiver" or "turn your womb over to God" and basically breed until your poor tired uterus goes *plop* and falls out. They try to come off as warm & fuzzy, but they're at the hardcore end of the fundy spectrum, and personally I laughed my ass off when I saw a photoshopped takeoff on those "motivational" posters that featured the Duggan family, with the caption "VAGINA: It's not a clown car". (Can you tell I'm not exactly keen on this kind of thing? There are big families, and then there's just plain being irresponsible and expecting other people to help pay their way, and guess which camp the Duggans fall into, IMNSHO?)
my dad came from a family of 12 and while they all felt loved there was no real bond between his siblings and the parents becasue dad was always working and mom was busy being a mom to 12!
it's their choice but i find it selfish and irresponsible.

I'm all for freedom of choice and all, but at this point, how can you NOT think of her vagina as a clown car?
A close family friend was the last of 20. His oldest brother was 22 when he was born, and had already moved out of the house, and he thought it was sad that he never had any connection to him. It's so true how a lot of child rearing responsibilities fall on the older kids in cases like this.

This makes me think of Monty Python's Meaning of Life where Michael Palin and Terry Jones (as the mom) sell all of their kids to science because there's just too damn many of them (to the tune of "Every Sperm is Sacred").
The end of the video says their oldest son has a big surprise. They showed him dating in one of the specials (a family group date with another family like theirs).
Wanna bet the surprise is the kid knocked up a girl and the episodes will end with A Very Special Duggar Wedding?!
Oh, please -- what is with people calling this wrong? They are a loving couple, they opt to not only have as many children as God will give them, but also are raising them in a loving way, educating them, putting no burden on the government whatsoever for education or their welfare ... they are following their beliefs, living up to their responsibilities, and living -- gee, I don't know -- as they CHOOSE.
To call them breeders is unseemly and rude. They're not breaking laws, they're not causing anyone any problems, and yet people think they should get to judge them. The mind boggles.
Discover Channel found them, not the other way around. Are you also going to knock the "Little People Big World" family for exploiting their challenges with being height-challenged (my concession to being politically correct in this post)? And don't tell me one family chose their situation and the other didn't ... I'm talking about their choice to share their stories.
Last thing -- I'm over 10 years younger than my sibling, and that alone put me in basically a different generation. When I was in 2nd grade, he was graduating high school. We're not close, either. Happens in small families as easily as it happens in big ones.
I'm sure they are very polite and friendly, but can you seriously give the proper love and attention to each child when there are 18 of them?!
It is their choice to live as they choose but I find myself feeling bad for those kids, especially since they have to schedule alone time with their mother. What if something happens? What if one of them is sad and needs time with their mother? Do they get told no?
