More Elitist Crap

I think my earlier rant against Kathy Hilton was fed in large measure by this report I read last night on TMZ. Yeah, I admit it I read their site. Yesterday at Bally's Gym there was a mistake in the booking of a room. It was double booked. Happens all the time. No problem. There was a group of people who were in the room beginning their aerobics class when they were all asked to leave so Britney Spears could use the room.

The staff at Bally's tried to placate the crowd by giving them free t-shirts and water bottles, some of which were thrown at the staff. The manager at Bally's apologized for the double booking, but didn't explain why the needs of 20 people in a class were less important than the needs of Britney Spears. What the hell makes her a better person. If you or I or any "everyday" (thanks Kathy Hilton) person were in the same situation, we would have been told to wait until the class was over or given another room.

What makes Britney any different or special than the rest of us? Because she's famous? Because she might stop coming to the gym? Who the f**k cares? What about the 20 people who have been having money sucked from their checking accounts each month for god knows how long in some onerous contract and want to get something out of their membership? Do you think maybe they fit the class into their schedule? Have lives? Well that doesn't matter because Britney wanted the room, and when someone who has more money or fame comes along, then everyone else just doesn't matter. At least according to Bally's Gym.

Madonna pulled something similar at Reebok near Lincoln Center in NY this spring. She joined a yoga class and kept trying to speak to the teacher, giving her ideas on yoga. The teacher explained he had to spend time with all the other students. So Madge asked all the other people in the class to leave. They did -- with the instructor. Madge hogged the room for the next couple of hours (delaying the next scheduled class as well), working on her own yoga stuff.

onerous I love that word.

It's bad form to ask people to clear out for someone famous. Some restaurants do it too. I would not go back to a place which did that. OTOH, I wouldn't have thrown water bottles at the staff, either. That's low-class. Throw them at Britney, by all means!

she doesn't have a gym and/or a dance studio in one of her giant homes? she's still annoying.

That's no way to run a business. Clearly their management doesn't know simple arithmatic.

Let's say the cost of a membership is $100/month.

20x100= $2000/mo
1x0= $0/month

(I'm going on the assumption that BS doesn't pay for the gym. I bet she gets her membershipf or free because the paps will take pics of the gym and they get free PR)

Bally showed terrible judgement in allowing one person to disrupt 20 people, celebrity or not. Ballys recently filed for bankruptcy protection; it sounds as though bad management runs rampant through the company and has for some time. Hopefully those who have memberships (that they paid for themselves, unlike the kind gifted on celebs) won't lose out if/when the chain folds.

Of course, if Britney had any brains or manners, she would have not permitted the class to be disrupted on her behalf but would have made other arrangements. I don't think anyone would ever accuse Britney of having that kind of grace or awareness, however.

I don't understand why they think they need Britney for the PR, when they have seriously fucked their PR by throwing out 20 people who were there first.

Note to self: never darken the doorway of a Bally's.

Because they're terrible business people!

if i had even a tenth of her money i would have a trainer who makes housecalls

it was a smart move on the part of bally's management. the PR they get from having BS workout there is worth way more than the marginal revenue generated by twenty regular customers.

It's not going to be worth anything if people flee in droves.

If Britney Spears started working out at home or having a personal trainer come to her, there would be no pictures of her spread throughout the land via the internet. God forbid that a day goes by without a reminder that she is still famous and rich and in need of public adolation.

But, how much positive publisity does Bally's get when Britt's walking around with her gut hanging out?
Plus, I guess Bally's is not thinking about the fact that their spokeswhore is a woman so messed up she can't be a mom to her kids or run her own life.

Without saying whether Bally's did a good thing or bad thing, I can say for sure, after having been a member of Bally's for 20 years, that a room NEVER gets double booked. Those schedules are in place for months in advance. Maybe years. Ain't no double booking here folks.
