It's A Setup

So, I'm sure you probably have heard by now that Gerard Butler isn't afraid to go a little 300 on some people, especially a pap who is following him. On Tuesday morning, Gerard allegedly had his limo driver pull over, went to the pap who was following him and then allegedly punched him in the face. Nice. Anyway, the photographer filed a police report at like 2 in the morning, BUT before filing the police report allegedly called a lawyer. This smells like a setup and that is what witnesses told TMZ. They said the photographer had basically been stalking Butler all night and probably didn't get a shot he wanted and so was following him in his car as well. Butler apparently had enough.

The sad thing is here that although criminal charges probably won't be filed against Gerard he probably will have to cough up some dough to this guy. The guy also probably got some money for the photo of him with the spilt lip. So for about 10 seconds of beating he probably is looking at $50,000 or so. It is pretty disgusting when you think about it. I have never really felt that provocation was needed. Most celebrities will go ahead and do something stupid without any additional assistance or interference on the part of the photographers. To me it just shows no class and desperation to make a quick buck,

i think the studio's and the agents and managers of all these celebs should put the heat on arnold so some law is enacted. these guys have rights, but their rights shouldn't trump the rights of the celeb. it's too much already.

and i hate the stupid argument that they wanted fame so they should have no right to a decent life. that's just bullshit and seems like people are being punitive because they're jealous.

My take is that it's one thing to take photos 20 feet away with a zoom and/or quiet. Flashbulbs are an annoyance, the goading is also an annoyance. Can't fault a guy for getting annoyed, but I can fault him for punching a guy in the face with those large luscious muscles.

Some of the paps are already literally throwing themselves in front of celebs' cars, because they know they'll get a good story and some $ out of it. And some of the questions they come up with to try to get a reaction should be considered verbal assault, imo. I don't know exactly where it should be, but a line needs to be drawn.

"shows no class and desperation to make a quick buck"

isn't that the job description for a Pap? fucking cockroaches.

Gerry, just pay me $500 and I'll beat up the pap for you.

Paps disgust me, I have seen and heard some say really rude and f*cked up things to celebrities just to get 'that" shot.

Thanks, Enty for putting the Gerry situation into perspective. I've seen sooooo many mentions of this on the Web and they make Gerry seem like a thug. Anyone who knows him knows that he's a nice guy, but he can be pushed to the brink, and I KNOW that's what the pap did.

I wish that, once we know the name of the pap who goaded Gerry, we could have a way of NOT patronizing outlets that use ANY of his photos in the future so that he'd suffer a hit in the hardest place: His wallet!!!!

A testosterone-laden Scotsman/Brit punching paps just stokes my fire!

I would bite Gerard everywhere I could get my teeth latched onto.

There should be a law about the paps. Something like no closer than 50ft.

Serves the pap right for messing with a nice, loving, warm Glaswegian boy.

I doubt Gerard actually hit him - have you seen the size of his hands? The pap would have more than a bit of bruising to his lip, trust me!! he's lucky Ger didn't haul his ass out the car and give him a proper 'Glasgow Kiss'. THEN he could complain a very little.

Thanks for your balanced view Enty! Everything I know about GB from those who've known him for the past 10 years, when he was just starting out in acting - he's a darling.

Unless you tail him to get a picture and then try to set him up... ;)

Butler has a reputation of being a really nice guy for the most part, and is well liked. I could see him getting pushed over the edge, but it would take some doing. He's not stupid by a long shot.

I, too, smell a setup.

ah, he can afford it- plus he gets the press.

On a more important point, that pic of Butler you posted Ent is LOVELY. I was never a GB fan before, but in this he's HOT! I also caught Dear Frankie last tuesday night, and he was in it looking broody and sexy. now I'm sold:-)

The article on E! Online regarding the incident has published his identity...
There you go ;o)

Anyone see that "documentary" show on paps a while back? They behaved with absolutely no regard for the law. They are disgusting human beings who whine about "having to make a living". Get an actual JOB, then.

GO PHILS!!!!

In my opinion, you don't really need an excuse to bitch slap these little c**ts who call themselves "photographers".

They have absolutely no regard for the safety or welfare of others. Remember a lady called Diana Spencer, anyone?

Yes, they do whine about "having to make a living", yet they earn a s**tload more than some REAL photographers out there. Then when they push someone to the brink, such as this incident, they then try and weasel MORE money out that person by trying to sue. Greedy f**king little c**ts. It disgusts me.
