Well What Careers Are Left?

So for the first time in a long time, Seal got interviewed. I hardly ever get to see any quotes from him that are not about his wife Heidi or the reason he has not had a hit song in forever. I like Seal. I like his music and considering I am a 30 second wonder, I have no problems with someone who is a one hit wonder. Except for James Blunt, but that just opens up things that we really shouldn't talk about today. I mean today is Monday and not go on a rant day about some guy who got lucky. There are one hit wonders who are great musicians who had great careers and for whatever reason only one song took off for the masses. I think Seal is great, just has not had his past successes repeated. James Blunt to me anyway, has no talent and is the true definition of a one hit wonder.

Now, with that being said, and all those nice things I said about Seal, I read the interview and wondered what he smoked before he gave it. The interviewer was asking him about his kids and what he wanted them to be when they grew up.

"I'd encourage my kids to do anything in life. As long as they don't aspire to become serial killers, porn stars or join the military then we’re good.

First of all, I see no problems in anyone joining the military. Obviously Seal has a problem with it, and that is opinion. Everyone can have an opinion. It is the other two things that just really freaked me out. Does he think his kids are on the path to becoming a serial killer or a porn star? Is this something he stays awake thinking about at night? And who has ever aspired to become a serial killer. "You know what dad, the whole fireman thing just doesn't appeal to me. I really want to focus on classes that will allow to me be a serial killer. I know the pay isn't great, but the job satisfaction is what I'm after."

This almost sounds like a joke, with no punch line. "An Army guy, a porn star and a serial killer walk into a bar..."

Wow. I really would have loved to have seen some followup questions to these, but as usual, there was nothing. I really thought the Mirror which is where the quotes came from would have had the guts to ask more questions, but they didn't. Is there anyone in this world who will ask a followup?

I don't read it that way at all. I think he was throwing out random, less desirable occupations as a way to be funny. Enty, reading your blog really makes my day most of the time, but there are moments where you seem to over-analyze something that really wasn't all that important. Maybe it's just your fill-in that does this?

Yup. Ditto to what Katy said.

Yep, I have exactly the same feelings about my future kids. As long as they don't go the route of porn, military, or serial killer they can do what they want.

Nothing wrong with that. Especially given that civilian casualties alone in Iraq since we've been there in this newest war total one million people or more - when you go by international experts who are there on the ground and who haven't been bullied into shutting up, as are the US media.

Maybe he doesn't want his kids to be in danger of getting killed or maimed. Seems reasonable.

Is he actually grouping the military with porn and serial killers? I sure hope not. Those men and women are dying every day so he can live the good life.

maybe he's overclarifying everything to avoid certain posters who scrutinize!

lol..you just do this to make us crazy dontcha?

personally i wouldnt want my kid in the military either.

sorry NOTHING out there is important enough to lose my kids for.certainly not the shit thats happening now.

Does it really matter? Those kids are going to have enough money to never have to work a day in their lives.
He should encourage them to get an education and try to do something on their own, and stay out of trouble unlike other celeb offsprings--Redmond anyone?

In my weirdly remix-addicted city, I'm surprised that no one has remixed Seal's "Crazy" with Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy."

Just sayin'.

I'd say the same thing as he did. Hmm, ok, I might throw in 'works in reality tv' on top of it, too.

I also agree with many above. I totally get what Seal's saying...

The military thing is a tricky one, tho, considering my hubby's in the army.. we're Canadian, but he's still possibly going to Afghanistan and I'm freaked about it... as well as proud. It's a really messed-up feeling. I'd prefer if none of our children followed in his footsteps. It's selfish to say so maybe, but it's the truth.

jungle i feel for you...if we were going as peacekeepers even its way to dangerous. Canada has no business there period. Harper needs to grow a pair and get the fuck out of the Mid east.

sorry rant over.

what i meant to add was that my bro met Seal on a BA flight he worked a few years back and said he was one of the nicest celebs he's ever served. just a regualr guy who talked nonstop about snowboarding in Whistler.

Jax -- I LOVE that anecdote about your bro and Seal! I don't honestly care for his music. I mean, "Kiss from a Rose" is the most plodding, boringass song I can possibly think of right now -- well, it's tied with "I Believe I Can Fly," by R. Kelly. UUUUGHGHGH. Why are these BOTH such common AI picks, anyway? Every week, some greasy contestant picks one of those overwrought songs and just goes for it and it always sucks and Simon always despises it.

Anyway, Seal's always looked and seemed as if he'd be a cool dude in real life. I LOVE him and Heidi together, and their family is fucking beautiful! Leni is a mini Heidi and their boys are like Seal, but without the cheek scars and with amazing little jr. 'fros.

My future children are all banned from joining the military or attending Liberty University (unless they want to pay for it themselves, I guess). I don't think the military itself is evil; I think they perform a NECESSARY evil and need to be here in case someone attacks us or whatever. But the idea of a loved one going off into combat doesn't fill me with pride. It gives me hives.

I don't blame Seal for wanting to keep his sons safe from all kinds of shit. The serial killer path you can't really HELP (hopefully your kids won't want to get involved in porn or murder), and some cocky boys get a bug up their ass to join the Army and I guess there's nothing parents can really do about that, either.

Ent I normally love your commentary (that's why this is the first place I check out when I get home from work) BUT I can't believe you are commenting on this. Seems like a normal thing for a parent to say.

Who wants to say about their kids, "Michelle is doing great. That plastic surgery realy paid off. She's the highest paid girl at her strip club." or "We are so proud of Josh. We knew he was on the right path when he started killing animals at the age of 8. Now he's the nation's most prominent serial killer."

Seriously, find something more interesting to talk about.

Go Kelli! :)

Jax, gotta disagree with you about Afghanistan - I think the whole damned world should be making sure the Taliban don't regain power there, especially the female half of the world. Jungle, for your sake I hope your husband doesn't have to go, and if he does, I hope he stays safe!

He must be kind of quirky because he is married to Heidi Klum. Have you seen Project Runway? She wears outfits where half her boob is hanging out, then she accuses the designers of making clothes that are too "slutty". I bet even with all their money, they are still strange parents...
