Is it me or does this make no sense?

batting for the other side

I thought it was the home team? Somebody doesn't know sports, I guess.

You need to get your mind right Ent.

Hervana said...

Don't panic! It's just an English phrase meaning gayness - as in 'I bat for the other side'.
And BTW we DO know sports, proper sports.
Please PL0Z god let it be Tess Daly.

califblondy said...

Batting for the other side = gay in England.

Batting for the home team = gay in US.

Did I get that right?

What are proper sports, btw?

Enty is still a little hungover, cut him some slack...Now, who's a "gorgeous TV babe"? "in a long term relationship with a handsome man"?

mooshki said...

Enty doesn't even write the "Daily Mirror" blinds, so give him lots of slack. ;)

Califblondy, you got it totally right, it's a little bit like the difference between an English fanny and an American fanny.
Proper sports - ah y'know Rugby, Football (youse call it 'Soccer' and we try to keep smiling), Cricket, did I mention Rugby...any game enjoyed by more than, oooh, two nations on the face of the planet. Or any game that flows for more than five seconds before having to stop :)

Unknown said...

Wow .. this would be awesome if it turned out to be Erin Andrews!

califblondy said...

What's an English fanny?

Damn, I'm learning new things today.

Hervana, we gotta stop anything that's televised every five seconds for all the friggin' commercials.

Hervana, why is it that so many English people feel the need to insult American sports? Still pissed about the Revolution?

The previous poster didn't say that English people don't know sports, only the author of the BI. So why did you take it so personally?

So what if we Americans like baseball, basketball, hockey, and football? All of which, btw, are enjoyed by way more two nations. Maybe if you took the time to actually watch a game, you'd see how diverse the players are.

Pull the crumpets out of your ass. And I don't give a rat's ass if you followed your statemnet with a stupid smiley emoticon, that doesn't make it any less annoying.

You crack me up, Ror--love your Strother Martin quote, as also sampled in song by G'n'R...

Anyway, no idea. Isn't everyone in H'wood gay or bi?

Fuck, I've made out with plenty of girls, and am happily married to a man, and would prolly get it on with another gal anytime the sitch presents itself.

And Hubby would be in frickin' HEAVEN!

How about Megan Fox or Jessica Biel? They both have done TV and both have been in longterm relationships with handsome men.

I love American sports, hello but the NHL? Phwoar at some of the guys! My father is a massive (not literally ;)) fan of NFL - Go Dolphins - and goes every year almost to watch at least one Dolphins game as well the college team Hurricanes.

Christ, he even used to drag us to the American Football League that was set up over here but sadly folded. Great fun.

Anyways, a British "fanny" would be your arse/butt/behind/hiney, which is which fannybag will make most Brits laugh hysterically so watch out :p

My guess for the BI is Alexa Chung.

fraggle said...

Over here 'fanny' is a womans, err, "front bottom" :-)!!

Terri Seymour LOL!

Thanks Fraggle. That's what I meant to write but confused myself, not enough tea methinks hehe.

We're talking England here, right?
Kelly Brook used to be Jason Statham's beard years ago.
Now's she's linked to a
a 'footballer'who's sexuality has been in question. I vote her.

Wondering if the "secret passion" bit might be alluding to an actress on that soap "Passions"?

Majik said...

Don't lump hockey in with the other sports...it's sacred--there are NO gay hockey players, that's why there are no 'other team' references.

*repeats to self* there are no gay hockey players; there are no gay hockey players; there are no gay hockey players...

Hervana said...

ILWT, I'm Irish. So shut up. I've watched a lot of American football, and it's fun, but...nah.
And the fact that you can't spell arse simply makes you MORE annoying.

Unknown said...

ass is the American spelling

ILoveWhiteTrash said...

Hervana, your nationality is of no importance to me. When califblondy and other posters expressed their confusion regarding the use of the phrase “batting for other side” in the BI and suggested that the writer may not know much about sports, you said it was an “English phrase”. You then followed that with, “we DO know sports, proper sports”. The manner in which you used “we” after “English” suggests that the we refers to the English. Thus, you defined yourself as English and as the voice of English sports fans, not me. So your frustration with me is misguided, you should actually be frustrated with your own inability to process language.

Once again, I’ll point out that no one said, “English people don’t know about sports”. The statements other posters made about not understanding sports or not knowing about sports were directed at the author of the BI. Also, I never said you were annoying. I don’t know you, so I cannot fairly make such an assessment. I stated that your post deriding American sports was annoying, and it would be equally annoying with or without the emoticon. I believe a reading comprehension class could be of great benefit to you.

Sorry other CDANers, I’ll stop feeding the troll now.

ILoveWhiteTrash - Get a sense of humoUr - i know as an American, thats a hard thing to do ;)

Also Hervana is not a troll.

Tania said...

ILWT - from where I'm sitting, Hervana isn't the troll. S/he was clearly tongue-in-cheek, but you got all bent out of shape and needlessly defensive about it. The soccer/American football thing is something my American friends and I rib each other about quite often. It's not meant to be taken seriously.

As stiffkittens said - sense of humour. Look into it.

@I love White Trash

Your comments make me laugh. For some reason, you see fit to launch a tirade against people and clog up this board with your comments. Stop acting like you are the supreme authority here. You have the nerve to tell people to process language and take reading comprehension classes as though you are better than everyone.

If you want to continue to attack people like a bully then i suggest you leave this board. No one will definitely miss you.

Hervana said...

Stiffkittens, Tania, Caroline, thank you and my compliments on your fine senses of both humour and proportion.
ILWT - no one ever dies of a gentle tease to the upper body so why not take your head out of your, erm, ass?

ILoveWhiteTrash said...

Caroline21 - I wasn’t bullying Hervana. I wrote a post directed at her and she came right back at me. I doubt she ran off crying into her pillow about it. If anything, your chiming in after stiffkittens and tania already did is more of an example of bullying. And when did I act like an authority on anything? I only gave my opinions. I never pretended to be speaking for anyone else. After reading your post, that's apparently your shtick. Save your sanctimonious bullshit for someone else.

Tania - minding your own business, look into it.

stiffkittens - I'm PMSing, so a sense of humor is out of the question right now. I'll get to work on that next week.

ILoveWhiteTrash - Ovaries + blog comments don't mix well do they? ;)
