Anna Faris Thinks Date Rape Is Funny **Observe & Report Spoilers***
I don't have a lot of desire to see the movie Observe And Report. I already watched the other mall cop movie and I also am on a bit of an anti-Seth Rogen kick right now. So, that combined with the fact that this is supposed to be darker and has Anna Faris as the lead in it, and it screams to me, just go ahead and wait to see it.
Now though it has even become more dark and scary. Apparently there is a fairly graphic scene in the movie where Anna Faris gets drunk on tequila and pills and passes out. Seth Rogen's character then proceeds to, by any definition of the word, rape her. Anna Faris is unconscious throughout the entire scene except for one brief moment when Set Rogen stops and she says, "Did I tell you to stop?" and then passes out again.
Apparently though Anna thinks that because she delivers the one line during the rape that it becomes funny. In an interview with NY Magazine who also talks about this entire scene in much more detail, Anna said, "It's like date rape — that's funny, right?"
I'm guessing there are going to be many, many women who are going to take issue with that statement by Anna. It is one thing to have a scene in a movie where a character is raped. It is quite another to have that character say that because she utters one line it suddenly makes it funny. She doesn't deny that it is date rape, just that it is funny. Maybe she should go speak to women who have been date raped, show them the scene and say, "hey, see? it's funny." I'm sure she will get lots of laughs.

I had to see this film for work and it's reprehensible in general and more importantly, not funny. Oh, and you get about two solid minutes of full frontal action of a fat guy's weiner flapping around as he's being chased. So, I don't recommend seeing this before dinner...you'll lose your appetite. Paul Blart sucked as well but at least it wasn't mean-spirited like O&R.
I've considered both Anna Faris and Seth Rogen to be completely over-rated for quite some time now. Honestly, I couldn't stand Rogen back in his Freaks and Geeks days, which is pretty telling, since that was his best work thus far. And Faris? *shudders* Not funny. Never HAS been funny, and is certainly not the hot piece of a$$ she's like to believe she is.
Doesn't surprise me at all that these two losers are in a film that is trying to make date rape funny.

I think she was so high on whatever she was on, that she didn't realize what she was saying. No excuse though. Movie seems lame anyway and it will flop like most of seth rogen's future movies. i really loved him, but i read his "hating kids" comment and i'm fazed. why would you bite the hand that feeds you? i understand you don't like kids, but wow, he said some harsh things about the people that have made him who he is. If a group of people i wouldnt particularly were responsible for my financial well being, i would definitely warm up to them and not hate so much anymore. but hey, at least he's honest right?

I'm also on the Anti-Seth train after I realized he plays the exact same guy every time in his movies. Same mannerisms, same tone, same movements. He also needs hot women to tell him he's sexy and good-looking in every movie when his character worries that he's fat. Newsflash: you ARE tubby and not attractive. After watching Zach and Miri and Pineapple Express back-to-back, I'm done with Seth Rogen.

I'm still a Seth Rogen fan and I HATED this movie. It was so disturbing. I think if it had really been a dark comedy it might have worked but instead they threw a bunch of totally incongruous lighthearted moments in there and made fun of a lot of moments that just weren't funny. Like when a delusional bipolar guys goes off his meds and starts attacking people? Not funny. This movie was like if you made a comedy about Columbine and instead of killing themselves at the end, the shooters were crowned homecoming kings. Twisted and not funny.
Does Enty's anti-Seth kick have anything to do with all the coke BI about the actor who's lost weight all the while Seth is showing up on talk shows saying he lost the weight through exercise?

It's not impossible to make rape funny--just very very very difficult (I think Pedro Almodovar tried it a few times in his films, like in Tie Me Up, Tie Me Down; and then there's the whole undercover policeman in the park thing in Where's Poppa). However, these are clearly not the people to do it, nor is this the right film. It's too bad--I'd like to see both Seth Rogan and Anna Faris step out of their conventional roles...just not this way.

A lot of young boys (and let's face it, some men) will watch this scene and think it's cool/funny/awesome, because an average looking schlub got to have sex with a hot chick. That's the thing, they won't see it as rape.

Although I do believe that it is OK to make fun of pretty much anything, thus rendering it non-threatening, I think actors like these have to take some sort of responsibility for the kind of audience that they have. Thing is, date rape is really, really, common. I think most women I know have at some point had sex when they didn't really want to. Or when they were really drunk and did it to get it over with or because they felt they were "supposed to". And , like this particular scene says, if you don't say "no" or "stop" it's not considered rape. Apparently a man is completely unable to detect if a woman is not into it unless she explicitly says so. And if she is too drunk to say anything...well...then it's "her fault".
And that's what this scene is making fun of, and I do think that Anna Faris said that it's funny in a sarcastic tone. So in the grand scheme of things, I don't really think this is a huge deal, but then again, I haven't seen the movie.

I agree with harriet hellfire partly. you could be able to make fun of just about anything, depending how it'd done. but there are certain things that are too touchie though. I was date raped one time. i kept saying no and the guy didn't care and kept going like if i was saying yes. i blamed myself for a while, but then i came to terms with it that it wasn't. so, i guess because i've been through it, it wouldn't be funny to me no matter how tasteful or what the context is. but hey, some people would find it offensive and some won't.
as far as her comment, don't think she was being sarcastic, she said it in regards to the scene in the movie. the scene in the movie is about a her being date raped, because date rape is funny, right? No anna, WRONG.
I have NEVER found a Seth Rogan vehicle funny. EVER. Pineapple Express was fucking stupid (and inexplicably violent, but I guess you just HAVE to appeal to the pimply videogame-obsessed demographic, so whatever), and this just makes me hate him.

Know your own limits? These things happen to people often times before they have had enough chances to learn their limits - I remember being young and immature, and I diffintely had to have numerous experiences before "learning my own limits". Statements like that are broad generalizations based on limited worldview.
I'm with Ernestine, campchristy and others stating that B626 is being unrealistic and has obviously been LUCKY enough not to have been raped while under the influence.
I hadn't had the chance to figure out my limits yet when I was 16, got drunk, passed out and got raped. And I STILL said no and tried to struggle but that didn't work. The passing in and out of consciousness while being raped happened a little later. So, I suppose had I not managed to put up ANY kind of a fight and had just passed out, then that would have been my fault. Bullshit.
