Johnny Depp Does SpongeBob

Yes, I know the headline makes you think about whether there are in fact photos of Johnny Depp and SpongeBob making sweet love, but actually it is the news that Johnny is going to be guest starring on SpongeBob on Friday April 17th as a part of the 10th anniversary of the show. Johnny is going to play the love interest of Mr. Krabs as Mr. Krabs finally decides to come out of the closet. No, I'm joking. Johnny is going to play Jack Kahuna Laguna a world famous surfer and a hero to the rest of the characters. It is cool that Johnny is doing this, but I'm sure a lot of it has to do with the fact he has kids and so they probably watch SpongeBob. With the exception of Pirates, this is probably the coolest thing Dad can do.

I find SpongeBob annoying.

I always think I'm the only parent who doesn't let their kids watch Spongebob. I think it is obnoxious.

Although I do believe it is geared for a more "mature" audience, I do let my kids watch it and I admit I watch it too. Best Day Ever is my personal favorite episode.

This show has so much innuendo, you gotta love it. Reminds me of Ren and Stimpy.

For the love of God and all that is holy, I cannot fuckin' wait.

Whate'er one may think about the SpongeBob character or show (I think it's funny - almost a rated-G Ren and Stimpy), it's great that JD's doing this for his kids (I think). Is Nick also part of the ABC/Disney conglomerate?

@GoGo
Nick is a part of Viacom. They go along with MTV, BET, Spike TV, etc.

The thing about SpongeBob (most cartoons that last longer than three/four years, really) is that they eventually develop into something other than what they started as. SpongeBob used to have a mini lesson in each episode, but as time went on and the show developed past standard cartoon formula, it really came into its own as a comedy. Oh, the lessons were still peppered throughout, but with subtlety - not the heavy-handedness you get from a Disney show - and subversion. Ah, the Golden Age! Some classic examples would be the episode where Squidward attempts to teach art to SpongeBob, and the ever-popular F.U.N. episode.

Sadly, the past few years have seen a drop in quality: many times the plots have been scrapped altogether and replaced with 11 minutes of pure nonsense, much like the later years of Ren and Stimpy. It's starting to become a farce of what it once was.

Let us all have a moment of silence for SpongeBob. ;_;

...what was that about Johnny Depp?

Oh, so that's what the fun police sound like. I love it when people trip all over each other to make themselves look better.

And for the love of ALL that is holy (up to and including shit) THANK GOD that Johnny Depp is not one of those people, and that he has wallowed in the same obnoxiousness that is Spongebob. All I can say is:

"I'm ready! I'm ready! I'm ready!"

Oh yeah, and I'm sure my kids are too. Krabby Patties FTW, bitches.

Doodlebob episode is the best!

I watched that episode online months ago! Didn't realize that it was newsworthy....

So not the drama peeps. JKL (as the episode calls him) barely says anything. Waste of a Depp cameo if you ask me.

i love him all the more for doing this. And to the parents who dont let their kids watch it... while i get it if the kids are youngish the thing is that many parts are subtle and would fly right past a childs brain anyways. i just never got why it was so bad for kids to watch...

my fav episode is when they go back in time and squidward invents (accidently) jellyfishing. when they showed how the sea looked milliions of years ago and the fish all were wearing loinclothes ala cave men that was soo priceless!
