Michael Cera Becomes Famous - Dumps His Girlfriend

Michael Cera has dumped his long time girlfriend Charlyne Yi because, well he is an actor and wants to have sex like Russell Brand. According to Star, Michael got tired of only dating his girlfriend of three years and wanted to play the field. "He's been with her since before he was superfamous, and now all these girls fawn over him. He's itching to date other people."

Well if he dates too many people he will probably start itching, and it won't be pleasant. He also needs to realize that he plays one character and one character only and so his fame is going to be very fleeting. There are only so many possibilities for someone of his range. What he really needs to be doing instead of screwing over someone who is loyal to him and gave him a charity date when he wasn't famous is be loyal to the people over at Arrested Development who also were with him before he became famous.

Loyalty just goes out the window in this town when you get famous. It sucks but there isn't anything I am going to be able to do about it except call people out when they do something. Charlyne is said to be crushed. What makes this even more painful is they are doing a press tour for Paper Heart which is a movie they did together.

I dunno. He's a young kid and should prolly be playing the field anyway.

I'm finding it more and more difficult to continue liking this guy. It seems like he's getting too big for his britches... and he used to seem so cool. Although if he'd sign on to AD I could maybe forgive him a bit...

I agree. I'm suprised when someone his age has been with anyone for a year. 3 is crazy for kids that age.

He does need to make the damn movie though!

Guys, it's a movie.

"People don't believe me when I tell them Michael and I were just playing parts, that we're not romantically involved," a rather disingenuous Yi said earlier this week from her home in L.A.

"They don't realize everyone in the film, including the director, is an actor playing a part."

Ugh. I sort of dislike anything associated with Diablo Cody.

Ugh, if there is one thing I would redo about my 20's is that I wouldn't be in any relationships longer than 1 year. Such a waste of time when you have no idea who you really are. That aside, Charlyne may be crushed now but I hope she will soon realize she is better off without someone who would throw her off for a bunch of star f*ckers.

You know, he's only 21, and maybe it really is a case where he is trying to move on/growing up and hey, who really wants to have a film made about himself awkwardly falling in love with his (then) real-life girlfriend? Knowing that this was what, the fourth or fifth film that featured this plotline in one fashion or another? The guy's a JC Penney ad, he knows it, and is probably sick of it. That doesn't make him Colin Farrell (yet).

Maybe. I dunno. The least interesting cast member held up the AD film for over a year becuase of some ridiculous grandstanding, so my girlfriend and I are in lieu of that sort of in the Charlyne Yi camp by default. Sad to see this, but hey, that is the business.

Great summary, tho.

This is odd because any press I've read about Paper Heart has mentioned that they are no longer a couple. So, I don't think it's a recent thing. This sounds made up by Star. Not that I don't think Cera is on an ego trip, I do. His issue with the AD movie was ridiculous. But I'm not buying this story.

Had to comment on this story, because I went to a press screening that Charlyne held here in Chicago a couple of weeks ago and she flat out denied that they had ever been in a relationship. She had no idea where these rumors came from and described them as "long-time friends" and nothing more.

Almost every single man ditches his girlfriend or wife when he becomes famous. Look at Harrison Ford, Jeff Probst, Sylvester Stallone, etc., etc.

What a couple of fug mugs.

Nah, that's mean.

There is something about this kid that sets my teeth on edge. Little smartypants.

Jax, she was the stoner chick? I LOVED her! She was so funny in such a tiny part. She's better off w/o him. Enty's correct, he only plays one role. The folks making the Arrested Development movie should either, leave his character out it entirely, or replace his role like the Lefevre chick got replaced on Twilight.

he's young,he needs to see other girls but if the gossip mag is right,he's not a charming buy! (sarcasm) i guess he 'll love to f*ck teal tv stars

I laughed so hard during her scenes in Knocked Up!
Poor girl, she's young, hopefully she'll get over it soon.

People break up all the time, and why should he stay with her if he doesn't feel the same way just because he is famous now? How would Star know why they broke up anyway?

Yeah - because he's such a stud. If I was still a teen, I wouldn't touch him even if he had a 10 foot pole.
He's one of the most unattractive actors today - not that he has to be attractive: He doesn't play male ingenue roles. But he also has to NOT dream that he's other than what he is.

20 yrs ago I was the prom queen/team captain/student council/valedictorian -and I still want me a Michael Cera! Adorable and funny in interviews...
Think he'll be the new Alan Alda if the ego gossip isn't true.

He's playing Nick Twisp in Youth in Revolt coming out this fall. YIR is a book that has a cult following (myself included), and it will be very interesting to see how he plays Nick and his French alter-ego, Francoise.

And now he's famous but has to stay with her forever because people might think he's in a ego trip? He's young, let the young man live. Thousand of guys break up with their girlfriends to play the field and this is completely normal. Anyway, it's his life, it's not up to us to judge his private life and decide when it's ok or not to break up with his gf.

remember his horrid video trying to do a spin on the christian bale freak out? that right there showed me the kid is kinda a one trick pony.. i am holding out judgement and hope maybe he can bust out of this place he has been written and cornered into..

as far as the gf goes? eff it.. he will soon realize that he probably messed up and want to get her back,, you don't have to be famous to go down that road.. I am living proof since I have been recently been haunted by a few ghosts of non famous boyfriends past
