David Copperfield Claims Extortion - Alleged Victim Claims Sexual Assault
Well, it has been two years since the first allegations surfaced accusing magician David Copperfield of sexual assault. In that time there have been no criminal charges filed yet, but the alleged victim did file a civil lawsuit against Copperfield. In the suit, the victim claims that while in the Bahamas with Copperfield that she was sexually assaulted and that Copperfield threatened to kill her.
The suit was filed on July 29th. The woman is a model and a former Miss Washington USA contestant. Copperfield's attorneys say the suit is "extortion for money, plain and simple."
For the past two years I have been thinking about this case and have been wondering if he was ever going to face criminal charges. I think the fact it was in the Bahamas makes it hard. The fact it was a private island in the Bahamas makes it even more difficult. I do hope the woman's case goes to trial so we can at least get some idea of what happened that night on that island. My guess though is Copperfield will pay the woman to walk away and keep her mouth shut. I mean there are other women to invite to the island and he can't have any negative stories coming out about what they might allegedly face if they visit.

it's always creeped me out how you can buy a private bahamian island starting at like 2 mil. i know they're under bahamian jurisdiction, but you hear stories of wild stuff that goes on that the government turns a blind eye on. i'm betting the bahamian g'ment will be bought off in this case. the poor girl, right or not, won't have a case.
How did he lure her to the private island? That's what I want to know. I wouldn't go to a private island with a COMPLETE stranger. So did he know her ahead of time? It does seem like there's more than we've been made aware of.
I agree with Kara. I believe that there's a ton of information that isn't getting out there on this one. I do hope it goes to trial but agree with Enty that he'll pay her off. Egh. This dude skeeves me out.
I remember that two very young German students said that he invited them to his island as well. Each of them met him at a show when he chose them out of the audience to assist him. Afterwards he asked them for their phone numbers. He then called them up and asked them if they wanted to spend some time with him on that island. Both refused.
One of them had his call on her answer machine. He sounded weird.
Isn't it well known that he assaults women? Something in the back of my mind... not only this case - others, too.
Maybe it was this instance I read about 2 years ago but Judi yes I feel like I've always 'known' he was a victimizer. And yes he has always been creepy.
I too hope this goes to trial. I was wondering where this case went because for the longest time we heard nothing about it, which I thought was strange considering his level of celebrity and the strong allegations. It'll be interesting to see how this turns out.
Years ago (not now) I thought he was so hot, but I also like David Blaine and even Chriss Angel so I guess it's just a magic man thing.

This isn't the first time he's been accused of this either. He's always seemed very freaky. There was a long held rumor that he paid Claudia Sheiffer to be his girlfriend, but she never had sex with him, when he didn't want to pay, or wanted to renegotiated she dumped his ass, and he's never dated anyone "famous" again. Something is just very off about him. Rapist off, possibly.
