Your Turn

As we slide into the last weekend of summer, I thought it would be fun to look back at this past summer or any summer if you like, but name the thing you most enjoyed about this summer or what you will most remember about this summer. As Michael K said before it has definitely been the summer of death, but I was hoping we could look at positive things that happened to you. As for me, well it will probably be this weekend as I head out in an RV. Yes, I have decided to see just how much damage a fat man can do behind the wheel of a 40 foot long vehicle. I got inspired when I was watching the episode of Entourage where the gang grabs Eric Roberts and they head out to Joshua Tree. Way too hot for me there, but I thought maybe a trip up north might be fun and so am taking mom and dad and meeting some friends along the way and I went to Costco yesterday and bought 50 pounds of bacon. That should hopefully get me through the weekend.

So, tell me your stories. This year or a summer past.

One of my best summers ever was the summer after I graduated college. We went to Six Flags Great Adventure Everyday or to Dorney Park, or a water park. We visited all the places within the tri-state that we always wanted to visit, museums, tourist-attractions you name it. We ate a lot of fruit, drank a lot of beer went to countless bbq's; it was absolute heaven!

Then that September, we all got jobs, and became the responsible, boring-ass adults that we are now. Oh, the memories!!!

This summer I am one year cancer free!

I think you should def. take Eric Roberts with you!

This was a great summer for me ... I achieved several life goals, won two fab contests, got the corner cubicle I've wanted for over 3 years, and two sets of crazy neighbors moved out. Def. a memorable summer.

Congrats JoElla! :-D

Now that I'm a grownup it seems like summer isn't the big event it used to be when I was a kid...I remember summer lasting FOREVER when I was young. My dad always told me that the older you get, the faster time goes-it's so true.

My highlight of this summer was purchasing my new digital SLR...I've spent the summer dragging the husband along to various places to take pictures (he's a good sport AND he holds my camera bag for me while I'm shooting!)so we've managed to spend more time outdoors than usual.

I am excitedly looking forward to fall (I live in New England) so I can start taking pictures of foliage. I am a dork.

The Summer that Mr. Moosefan, myself, daughter Moose, son Moose, cat and dog drove from Georgia to WA due to military transfer. It was late July and it was awesome. We stopped in OK City and went to the Murrah building. Was so humbled. Got to see the miles and miles of sunflowers in KS, swam under the stars in CO-kids did not know why they had a heated pool until the tempature went from 98 in the day to 50 at night. Saw the ruts left from the wagon trains on the Oregon Trail. And we ate so much stuff! Just fun memories of that summer.

Hope you have many more great summers like that, JoElla.

Hey Mr. The Northman! Are you from Jersey? I love Great Adventure and I'm from exit 13. To get to my parents house you make a right at the prison, a left at the Dairy Queen, drive down the river and turn at the pumping station.

Summers used to mean the shore. I had lots of friends with shore houses in Lavalette and LBI.

Good for you, JoElla. May the rest of your summers bring the same good news.

JoElla!! YAAAY! You may feel pretty lucky there, but the world is who is lucky, what with still having you here with us and all ;)

AphrealDanae, I also got married this summer! No little ones, though! Congrats on starting your family!

Being able to work and pay bills was the best thing about my summer after such a frighteningly spare winter.

Even though it was tough in the heat and elements and I bitched a lot, my summation of summer this Labor Day weekend is *being thankful* for the fruits of my labors!

Blessings to all.

Thank Jah we are alive and able-bodied.

We should all enjoy every moment for those who no longer can.

I am SO with you on that one Selenakyle! As a single-parent putting one son through college and the other starting his senior year, I am profoundly thankful for what I have and my ability to take care of my family. Going back to work next week after a forced 5-week "furlough".

Amen Sistah! I do that everyday and instill it in a nice way in those who bitch and moan about little things, loll

I left my abusive husband, I moved to TX to live with my sister, I don't have a job, and I got sober. I will be 56 years old this month and I feel as if I have just been born. I am happier than I have ever been. Without a doubt, best summer ever of this woman's life.

Congratulations JoElla, that's wonderful!

Instead of our normal three week extravaganza vacation, we packed up the teens and took off for a few days at a little lake in Arkansas. No electricity, camped in a tent right by the lake, and spent every night lieing flat on our backs on the dock looking at the stars and counting the shooting stars as they went by. Easily the most relaxing time we've had in years.

Good for you DrCocks!!! Congrats! and Happy Birthday!

This summer has been crazy for me. I have been planning my wedding for a year and a half and I can not believe it is only 2 weeks away. It will be something I will always remember, but I will be happy when I can move forward with life!

I am so excited for my Maui honeymoon, and even more excited that we are in escrow on our perfect little townhouse. Who wouldn't love being walking distance to In-N-Out AND Trader Joe's?

Oh, and I will be thankful for my $8,000 tax credit!

This year I've lived through some of the highest highs and lowest lows of my life and 2009 isn't even over yet.

Some happy and humorous moments of this summer:

1) While performing at a festival, I had a wardrobe malfunction, so I ended up completely top-bare in front of about 500 friends, fans, and colleagues. All I could do was smile like I'd planned it and finish my number. Later people came up to me whispering amused whispers and honestly wondering if I noticed that I was topless.

2) In the middle of the night one night I couldn't get back to sleep. I decided to let my bunny out into the corridor of my condo complex. The two of us spent the better part of an hour running up and down the hall and jumping while the neighbours slept.

3) I decided to rebrand and change the name of my school to include my name. Classes start up again next week and thanks to some recent news articles, my first two classes sold out in a few short hours. So that's been a fun end to the summer!

I wish to god I could say this summer was good. Okay .. I can say it was better than last summer when I spent the vast majority of it wanting to kill myself over some asshole who basically ruined my life.

But this summer was all about the .. "Holy Shit!! How the f**k could you have given that ass power over you like that in the first place, Wil!!" And that kinda beat my "sense of powerful-self-ness" into a bloody pulp. Then there was the whole house sliding into foreclosure bullshit that started in June. And the I am turning 44 on September 10th .. my Mom will be 65 on the 11th and I am STILL such a loser I can't get her an amazing present for her birthday - regardless of her rather annoying tendencies with regard to parenting. [See EL's post on the whacked old man for backstory on that.]

How about this .. how about THIS summer was good for the simple reason that I got to come here and read some really funny stories .. occasionally vent on idiot celebs that make me look like I am on top of the world .. and most of all I get to read some really wonderful folks here and their HIGH-larious, touching and amazingly open responses to EL's posts?? Were I to have acted upon my worst instincts last summer .. I would not have had that pleasure!

I am not a god person in the least .. but .. well.. may whatever rocks your sock assure you have a wonderful Fall, Winter, Spring, Next Summer and on and on.

I almost lost my house this spring too. Totally awful.

The best thing about this summer, and to be frank this entire year, happened 3weeks ago. We finally managed to move (me, hubby and our two boys - aged 3 and 1yrs - from a one bedroom flat (apartment) to a gorgeous 3 bedroom house with massive yard and only 5mins to the beach. Sure, we're still renting but it's fucking awesome having all this space! It makes my life that i can finally sleep in my own room with my hubby as God intended and i dont have to trek down 3 flights of stairs to put the washing machine on!

So that was what great about this summer... other summers? Well, i've had amazing summers when i was younger and unattached (haven't we all??) I remember summer nights in a balmy London many moons ago, in an overcrowded beer garden jostling for a table and getting rediculously drunk because us sun-starved londoners weren't used to drinking in the heat... then waking up the next morning and trying to figure out who this dude lying next to me was.... lol!!!!! Fun days!

Summer is wonderful, i love it!!

This summer was marvelous because I swam laps outdoors nearly every weekday/end at noon at beautiful, empty pool 1 blk from home, 5 mins from work. The combination of vitamin D, exercise & what-felt-easy but really was a workout that all led to weight loss was very empowering. Still trying to harness somethng equally theraputic on mind/body for fall-road cycling is ok.

This summer will be remembered for having the worst vacation of my 56 years. A vacation so vile I became sick on day two and just got worse until I escaped early and paid out an extra $350 for the privlige of a one way ticket home
Then I was off work for over a week filled up with drugs and coughing up my lungs.
The best part will be the memory of my friends and family who were so outraged and horrifed for me that after I was able to get out of the house they celebrated my birthday (Aug 29th) by celebrating it over three days. I felt such love and concern, I'll never forget it.
My host from the "vacation" I never hope to see him again. EVER.

So my husband and I with our daughter just moved to Germany one year ago this month and for this past summer my husband had been deployed to the desert. This summer has made me grow up and realize that I am a grown woman and that I can take care of myself and my family, all on my own. I have never been away from my family until now and it was a big reality check, especially living in a whole other country. So yes, this summer sucked because my husband is gone but it made me grow up and learn alot of things about myself.

So I'll be home on the 12th. I'm not supposed to be on the computer. Explain later.

Best summer day...august 20, '87....I met my future hubby while sitting on the dock of the bay :) We didn't hook up for anohter 8 years due to distance (and the fact that I was only 12 when we met) but it was a hot day, we played in the lake, flirted, kissed on picnic benches...good times.

July of '98 we married. On the only rainy Saturday the entire summer. They say that means good luck. We're still married while most of our friends are divorced.

Last year we bought our first house (we live in the highest cost of living city in Canada) and were too busy to really enjoy it with all that comes with buying a house and the fixing up. This year we did more reno's this summer, but still ENJOYED the summer, our house, camping, I've never seen so many shooting stars as I have this summer. I even picked out a constellation in the sky that is 'all mine'. If you look at Venus, to the left is a 'C' out of stars. That's my constellation.

Summer 09 rocked.

My best summer ever was 1984. My friend Theresa and I were in college summer school and supposedly working, but don't recall doing much of any studying or work.

We were absolutely broke, lived on ramen noodles, pudding pops and Diet Coke while watching hours of videos on that cool new tv channel, MTV.

Wishing JoElla many many many more summers just like this one!

And big YAY to you, DrCocks! I love hearing stuff like that, congrats.

As for this summer...well, I can always hope next year will be better.

I had a great summer on a special needs cruise with my special needs son. The first one since he was diagnosed with Autism. We went to Central America and Mexico. It was AWESOME!

This is the worst summer of my life. I found out that my hubby of 24 years was cheating on me. Found out on Easter Sunday. He promised to stop. Found out on my BD that he didnt but took the skank to trips with him. Found out in June, when she called me, that the skank moved to the area. It is still going on. I am still married to the guy. He flipped flopped between asking me to give him time and asking me to grant him a seperation. Dont know what will happen. I love my kids and cant bear the thoughts of having them coming from a broken home. This is my worst summer. The only good thing from this is I have found myself pray and say the rosary quite a bit. And CDAN brings sunshine into these darkest days of my life.
