Blind Items Revealed

Tuesday, October 27, 2009

I love the word cranky. It isn't as good as Phil Hartman saying "Sassy," on SNL but it's still a good word. Most of the time I would call this item a Jackass, but I think it is more cranky rather than anything else. Over the weekend this aging Academy Award winner/nominee actress spent some time in an antique shop. Whether she wasn't feeling well, or had too much to drink at lunch, there was something very off and as I said very cranky about her during her shopping trip.

She kept asking to see jewelry and items in various showcases and then complaining about what was wrong with all of them. She would point in the direction of an object in a showcase and if the owner didn’t instinctively take out the right item, she would “get snappy” and complain about her as well. Eventually our actress did buy something and her credit card was swiped and returned but she insisted she never received it back. She thought the store owner had kept it. She then abruptly left. A few minutes later, an assistant came back to the antique shop insisting the owner had kept the credit card and demanded its return.

There was nothing to give back and the assistant finally left in a huff.

She's an excellent actress, but I've never cared for her as a person. She did suffer a huge loss last year with the death of her daughter Natasha Richardson. Not making excuses for her, just noting the sad event.

ah I can't bitch on her, her daughter was Natasha Richardson. Maybe she was still grieving and the poor jewlery owner got caught in the cross hairs.

I too love her on Nip/Tuck but can totally see her being "cranky"! I love that word. Like a toddler who needs a nap :)

@Reese and @Apple - that's exactly what I was thinking.

Don't like her, but the people who put her on a pedestal will be devastated by this blind. Snicker

Love Vanessa Redgrave! I'll be honest, after working in retail for years, I can say that most of the 'celebrities' I've had the pleasure of dealing with have been beyond 'cranky'. Also, sometimes salespeople are patronizing and over-zealous, so maybe you take that and couple it with extreme loss this year and you have a cranky old bird.

I can't hate her. I just can't.

I do feel sorry for her, but grief isn't an excuse for rudeness.

excuse me Barbra Streisand and Faye Dunaway!

I am gonna give Vanessa a pass on this one due to the death of Natasha being so recent. It might have been booze .. grief .. who knows what she might be doing to deal with that huge loss. So .. I am gonna attribute this incident to that and hope she is better now.

oh, and no one guessed her!!

This sounds like more than cranky to me - it smacks of Alzheimer's. She's 72.

One of the main signs is changes in mood and personality. Individuals can become confused, suspicious, depressed, fearful or anxious (or incredibly cranky, as in this case). My guess is that Redgrave misplaced her credit card once it was given back to her. Add alcohol to the mix and it's a fun time for all.

...or she's just a bitch.

Maybe she's just a be-otch.
She isn't exactly well known for being gracious and accommodating to service personnel.

god, i used to work in retail and those customers are the w-o-r-s-t!!
they swear up and down that you didn't give them their credit card back when you did. it's like, "ma'am, my job is to swipe this card, have you sign the slip, and then give the card back to you... it is not that hard and implying that i am that much of an idiot that i cannot perform 1/3 of my job function is ridiculous."

Ok Guys, everyone who has not lost a child (including me) step back off this woman. I say she gets a year of freebies on the behavior front. My mother has lost 2 children and it is nothing you ever want to endure, much less in public.

Agree with Reese.

laurelgray, that was my first thought too. Although the stress of losing your child could probably do it as well. Sorry to hear it.

Yeah, I'll give her a pass on this one, too. At least she's a true celeb, and not just one of those wannabe reality stars behaving badly.

my parents (now in their mid 70's) have always hated the redgraves because of their politics, well, at least because of how they want to foist them off on te rest of us.
so i can see this.
i've worked retail and had people leave cards behind, and i've shopped and left things behind (the most fun was a pair of 'scrip rayban sunglasses that were gone before i could turn around. BIFOCALS, too!)
and i seem to recall, vanessa was the more political of the sisters. not that has anything to do with anything.

I've always loved her but my mom told me the other day that she's been known to be out of her mind. The whole family is, actually.

I guess after accepting an academy award she decided that at an entertainment event so big was a good time to slam Jews for picking on Palestinians. She says, "Zionism is a brutal racist ideology. It is a brutal racist regime." Although, in her defense she does believe they have the right to exist.

It's been my experience that anyone THAT politically biased, be it conservative or liberal, usually comes across as a bit cranky. My aunt and grandmother are great examples. ;)
