FASHION OR FICTION: OUT WITH THE OLD, IN WITH THE NEW!!

2010 is a time for new beginnings; New jobs, new boyfriends/girlfriends, new diets, new-years resolutions, oh yeah, and my new weekly column for Crazy Days And Nights called "Fashion or Fiction".

Enty has been kind enough to allow me to join forces with him to bring you, loyal readers, a look at the most divine fashion trends, sported by the sexiest celebs on the carpet. We'll decide which looks rock (Fashion) and which should be burned (Fiction.) I’d love to hear your feedback, kiddies…Here goes nothing :)

CHUNKY KNITS:
Texture plays a huge part in the early months of 2010, with the chunkiest of chunky knits keeping us both warm and fabulous.
Remember: Chunky doesn’t equal frumpy. If worn correctly, big, yummy sweaters will attract any straight, red-blooded man…right, Enty???
FASHION: Claudia Schiffer works it out in her chunky, charcoal sweater thrown over a dress, tights and booties. But hey, let’s be honest, her six foot frame and gorgeous face don’t hurt either.

CLAUDIA’S LOOK FOR LESS: Aerie Knit Cardigan at American Eagle, $49.95FASHION: Selma Blair proves that chunky knits can be fashionably worn on your head too.SELMA’S LOOK FOR LESS: Gray Slouchy Beret on sale at Urban Outfitters, $14.99
FICTION: Jessica Simpson sports a grey, chunky knit sweater that doesn’t add anything to her figure, except bulk. A more fitted piece may, with synching at the waist may have solved the problem.

FICTION: Despite being a familiar face on the catwalk, Lily Cole doesn’t bring much glam to this oversized, winter sweater. All wrong!BRAIDS:
It’s not like braids were born yesterday, but with the reinvention of this style shown all over the Spring 2010 runways of Alexander Wang, Miu Miu and Missoni, braids have become more popular in Hollywood than in Utah ( We’re particularly referring to the long side braid and fan favorite, the fishtail.

FASHION: Blake Lively dresses-it-up with the super long, ultra-sexy braid at the 2009 Emmy Awards. And to answer your question—Yes, those are extensions.

FASHION: Fergie is always at the forefront of fashion and sported this long side fishtail braid on the red-carpet all the way back in 2008. Girl is really ahead of her time!
FICTION: Braids are hot and all, but puhleaaseee don’t get all Pippi Longstocking on us with the double side-braids. Gwennie, Vanessa and Linds are all offenders!

Lohan: Bottom center.

I like it! I like how you've demonstrated the right way vs. the wrong way... look forward to more!

Sorry, I come here for gossip, not fashion advice. but that's just my opinion..

Not sure I like this. I'm a gossip fan and a fashion fan but don't think the two mix. It dilutes the gossip factor. I'd be glad to follow your blog but I don't like seeing it here.

Well, I have to braid my hair to sleep at night since my hair is long enough to strangle me as I sleep .. so by the time I wake up in the morning it is ala Fergie. I just usually take it out when I leave the house! I guess now I will not!

: ) - looking forward to more posts. I am beyond broke right now .. but I can certainly dream as I read!!

yay! shameless plug for my mom's Etsy site:

www.kav122.etsy.com

She has some knitted slippers and mittens on there :) lol, yay, knitting.

oh, and the braid thing reminded me of when I was 9 months pregnant, and I braided my hair and had big oversized sunglasses on: I felt like I looked like Octo-Mom. How sad is that? But she always had her hair braided and the glasses. So maybe she is not only good at birthing litters, but also a budding fashionista?

i know nothing about fashion (my brother and i should have swapped sexes - he is a fashion guru!) so i am looking forward to learning a bit more about it all (and handy dos and don't pics definitely help!

I'm with the naysayers...I am about the gossip, not the fashion. We can snark on someone's outfit but I think that there are other blogs for things like this. Am I right? Sorry Adrianna...nothing against you! I'm sure you're very good at what you do.

i like it and love that you trashed j simpleton & gwengoop

Don't like it. Seems like a cheesy way to monetize the blog, and I hate the tone.

Maybe at year's end outlining the do's and don't's we've seen that year, but please, not any more often than that.

Yes, wear slim knits on the body and chunky knits as accessories.

NEAT braids. Not ones that appear to have been slept in - and I thought of this before reading your post, Wil.
I'm sick of messy hair, messy clothes, etc. Looking like a mess is not cool; never has been.

I have to agree with the thanks, but no thanks on this. Sorry - but not really interested - just here to hear gossip - not fashion news.

CINCHING, not SYNCHING.

Thank you.

Me love the idea, come on, don't be so hard on her, if there's space for reader photos or youtube videos, there's enough space to accomodate Adriana's fashion column.

Hells to the no. If this is where my $25 donation for photos is going, I'd like a refund. Thankyouverymuch.

I know they aren't high fashion, but I think double braids are adorable. :)

Angie said...

respectfully, I'm not loving this...there's a place for fashion tips and conversation and this site is not that place, IMHO.

Ent has commented on fashion and we haven't told him to stop - is it because it's in a different voice? Let's give Adrianna a chance.

Love the picture of Goopy in pigtails. LOL!

I bought my niece a grey chunky knit sweater/almost dress and black leggings @ urban planet. I was so excited to get them for her because I could picture her in them (and I was happy to shop for a girl). She didn't bother to model them for me.

btw, clothing at urban planet has a horrible smell.

momo said...

I don't like this as a new feature, especially how it contains 'ads' for certain stores w/those products. I'm also here for the gossip, nothing less, nothing more.

Anonymous said...

Umm, no thanks!!!

Unknown said...

let's face it, fashion is part of hollywood and i don't mind seeing a fashion column on here, i like clothes, and i like seeing what celebrities wear...but i have to agree with the person that said they don't like it because it seems like "adspace" for stores. i get plenty of that at other blogs and websites, trust me.

if there's one thing that i could possibly request...i don't know how it works...but i would really appreciate it if in the fashion stuff little bubbles don't pop up all over the photos saying "click to find out where to buy!" i HATE THAT!!!! thanks :)

and go adrianna! it always takes a certain amount of guts and bravery to do something new and open yourself up to a tough crowd, so yay! go you! (here's the mommy coming out in me, sorry!)

MizCaramel said...

sorry not for me adrianna, i think u'r great but i'm here for gossip not fashion. Good luck!

too funny. I have been sitting here all day reading the reveals and crocheting chunky puff stitch berets for myself and two others.

what is your sie, Jewels?
you have a lot of etsy sites on your profile so I couldn't tell from there

Unknown said...

you know, i'll bet alot of people would be cool with adrianna's column IF she's going to be throwing some dirt in there about all the celebs she's interviewed and seen and worked with because THAT is what we are really here for.

KellyLynn said...

I don't think it's the fashion angle that's sitting so wrong with this column, it's just the fact that it's way too polished for this forum.

Adrianna, you're awesome. Your upbeat attitude and your professionalism comes through in this column. Unfortunately, those two qualities are not what we like about this place. CDAN is such a great source of gossipy bloggyness because we get the impression that what Enty is telling us is the unadorned truth. There's a lot of straight-shooting and not a lot of gloss on the posts he brings us.

If you can bring us posts that sound more like you're talking to your girlfriends and less like you're getting published in Marie Claire, even the non-fashionistas could rock it.

Now, as for the fashion or fiction? I'm thinking the bulky knits are hard to wear for most women, even if they have great lines. Fine-gauge will come back around soon. Double braids look bad on just about anyone who is of legal drinking age. Single braids will usually be classy. Just sayin'.

Robin the Mad Photographer said...

She may not throw too much dirt, seeing as I'm sure she'd like to keep on working & interviewing celebs, so don't be too hard on her if she doesn't--hey, we all like eating & living indoors, right?

Maybe I'm better at tuning out the implicit ad placement from reading Allure every month, but this column doesn't bother me at all--like it or not, fashion IS a huge part of showbiz/celebrity these days, and hearing what's considered trendy can go a long way towards explaining some of the, ahem, outfits one sees people wearing. Besides, if Adrianna's a friend of Enty's, what could be bad? ;-)

(Oh, and I'd disagree on Vanessa in braids--I think she's still young enough that it comes off as cute and reasonably age-appropriate. Lindsay, though not much younger, looks way too haggard to pull it off, and Gwynnie...*sigh* It works better on her than some people due to her coloring (I half expect her to start belting out something from The Sound of Music), but she's getting a tad too old to make that work, plus it's not 1972 any more. Sorry...

Unknown said...

I also come here for the gossip. If I want fashion, I head over to the Fug girls.

Unknown said...

it's cinching, not synching

Well, go look at fashion. I don't care WHO designed what looks like shit on a celebrity; I just come here to see it called the shit that it is. Michael K doesn't do fashion columns, and from what I understand, he's making a living out of blogging, whereas Enty has claimed he doesn't make any money here, but does it for the love.

I personally don't give a rat's ass who Enty sells ad space to, but don't shove a fucking "fashion" column down my throat as a feature, if its sole purpose is ad revenue. Put it on the sides, as there is plenty of space there.

I don't want to abandon CDAN, but if this is gonna be a regular feature? I might as well become a degenerate.

I'd venture a guess that amongst the regular commentors here, some of them could come up with weekly reviews of movies, books, concerts, plays, whatever to fill the space Enty apparently feels the need to fill. And none of that is gonna offend me the way this fashion shit will.

The inexpensive knit hat looks nothing like the one Selma Blair is wearing. Cheap substitute sure, but nowhere near as cute.

(I suppose it's a cheaper substitute, but since Selma's wasn't priced for us we don't know....maybe she only paid 10 bucks!)

Ms Cool said...

I don't mind Adrianna's column here. It is nicely written and probably deserves its own blog. Plus, I am hyped up to see that I can somehow be in fashion by wearing the chunky hat I already have and I'll start braiding my hair.

Taylor said...

You should really just go start your own blog. Maybe have a link to it in the sidebar. I'm not really interested in reading this at all.

shakey said...

I don't see pop-ups (I used to see those on Lainey's blog all the time), but I get these green double underlines on seemingly random words. Not sure how to get rid of that. They just suddenly showed up one day and made themselves at home.

ms_goddess said...

Want to be very respectful about this, but I really prefer gossip on this site with some snarky comments about fashion thrown in with the daily photos. Really not interested in fashion being a whole feature (although I think Adriana does a great job when she covers award shows for us). I agree with post(s) above that maybe a link to a separate site would be more appropriate.

That being said, I'll just move to the next topic and not subject those who enjoy this feature to my rants about it. There's a reason for those up and down arrows on our keyboards! :-)

Sinjin said...

Wow, this post realy threw me! While I am highly amused at how old & harsh Goopy looks in braids, and I am LOVING the orange smears on Linds' face, LOVING it I tell you, I come here for the intelligent snark and general ragging on these spoiled, vapid, drugged out fame whores who presume to think they are better than the rest of us. I have never given a dusty turd about the messy, overpriced crap they wear. So with all due respect to Adrianna, I don't want to read about rags on whores.

Melanie said...

I completely agree with those readers who say "no" to this column. I don't come here for what's hot and what's not in fashion, I come here for the gossip. Thanks but no thanks, please pass on adding this weekly!

J-Mo said...

I really liked this feature but can see why some don't want it included regularly. I would definitely click if it was in a sidebar!

Unknown said...

Wow, you're a tough crowd! Personally I don't mind it at all. I think Adrianna did a similar piece for Life and Style so I'm guessing this is a reversioning of that. For those who don't want to read it, how about...just don't read it? I am so horrible about fashion that I need all the help I can get and since I'm not interested enough in it to go and seek it out deliberately, I would welcome something like this every week that gives me some ideas.

nancer said...

i'll be skipping this new feature. i don't think it has a place here but then, it's not my blog.

Gwyneth looks like a slob. She totally abandoned fashion and I will never forgiver her for it.

lol @ Sporky's comment - I'm with you!

Yeah, I could pass on this column, too. There are plenty of places I can go to read about fashion. I like this site for gossip! That being said, it doesn't OFFEND me that it's here.
