Star Magazine Makes People Magazine Cry - Kelly Preston & John Travolta Baby

You know there is nothing that Kneepads would have liked more than to have the exclusive story about John Travolta and Kelly Preston expecting a baby. In fact, the deal was in place. Instead though, someone from Star found out the news and they are the first tabloid to have the story on the cover.

I heard that Star Magazine didn't even hear it from anyone close to the family, but rather heard it from someone over at People who was working on the story.

Now, lets talk about the baby. When I first read it, I in my ignorance asked myself if a 47 year old woman can get naturally pregnant. Not that she got naturally pregnant, because we really don't know and won't know until People strikes a new deal with the couple. It turns out that in 2008 there were 7,666 live births in the United States to women 45 to 54 and only 2,000 of those or so were using donor eggs. So, not common, but with the power of Xenu behind you, and John's marathon viewing of Guys Gone Wild, Kelly managed to get pregnant.

After everything that has happened to them over the past year, I am happy for them. I really am. I still can't quite believe it, and wish they would just spill all their dirty secrets so they could run away from Scientology, but for now, I hope they are happy and I hope everything turns out ok.

I'm happy they're happy, but isn't it really risky to get pregnant at that age?

..."John's marathon viewing of Guys Gone Wild, Kelly managed to get pregnant"....that was hysterical. My thought EXACTLY... :)

Happy for any happy news that's not cheating or addiction.

On an unrelated note, speaking of babies, Enty is there any chance you can move or change that photo of the baby elephant being tortured on the right panel? It's getting to the point where I can barely read the first few entries because the look in that elephant's eyes makes my cry.

I'm really happy for them but I really hope they don't name this baby Jett. $cienos live in their own little self-indulgent world, and I wouldn't put it past them. I hope the baby is healthy.

I am happy for them, but the chances of birth defects goes up dramatically as women age.

...John, the whole point of the baby elephant picture is to make you upset enough to do something about it. That being said, I don't see it. Is it because I am on Foxfire again?

I don't understand why at this late age they decided to have another kid???

If they are happy, I'm glad for them. I know I would not want to start out with a new baby at age 48 (I know she's 47 now, but it takes awhile to have a baby). I suppose it's different when you don't actually have to take care of it. From the baby's viewpoint, having parents who are in their 60s and 70s when you're in your teens might be a bummer, but I suppose they can hire people to take care of that too. I just hope they are not having it with the idea that it can replace Jett, because it's not going to be his reincarnation, it's a whole new child.

And yes, it's possible for a woman of nearly 50 to have a baby. Harder to get pregnant, and more chance of birth defects or other complications, but most women aren't finished with menopause until they are in their 50s. I just have a hard time picturing him being enthusiastic enough about sex with a woman to devote his time to the conception.

The whole thing could have been done in a dish with sperm and eggs that have been frozen for decades. We'll never know.

I don't care how it happened, I am happy for them. They need wonderful news like this.

I don't want to see the baby elephant, either. I don't know how to block ads with Safari.

Wonder if someone at Kneepads is getting fired?

Princess Pine, I have adblocker, but still get some ads. I like it because pages load faster.

Completely agree with Syko. I actually just found out I'm expecting my fourth (!) and I'm worried that I'm getting a little old. I had my first 3 while still in my 20s ... I'll be 35 when this baby is born and I'm concerned about all the things that go along with Advanced Maternal Age. I realize it sounds funny as 35 isn't exactly OLD but I had my children in my 20s for a reason, KWIM? Anyway, I cannot imagine having a baby at 47. Hell I'm having a hard time right now with exhaustion, nausea, etc. and I'm 14 years younger than Kelly!

To me, this reeks of "band-aid baby" to help the loss of Jett, but I do sincerely hope I'm wrong.

It's not common at 47 but not impossible. I have a 4 year old "uncle", my grandfather's second wife had a child at the age of 50 and he turned out great. Either way congratulations to them.

I work in High-Risk pregnancy Management and this occurrence is not that rare or hard to deal with. We have many patients that have become pregnant NATUARLLY. Just had one deliver at 50…. ;o

Congratulations, chopchop! I hope everything goes well and you end up feeling terrific, with a healthy beautiful baby, and I also hope you win the lottery so you can hire a nanny or two!

anyone ever hear of Madonna?

i'm happy for them...even though they are both closeted Scientolo freaks and probably trying to replace Jett.
what? don't act like you weren't thinking it. Guilt does strange things to people.

The baby elephant ad really upsets me, too, John. Glad to know I'm not the only one.

I hope everything turns out ok for the Travoltas. They've been through a lot, and seem like nice people in spite of all their secrets and Scientology. However, this reminds me of a friend of mine whose beloved dog was run over and she went out almost immediately (within weeks) and got another dog of the same breed. You can't replace a dead loved one, be it a dog or a child. I hope they know what they are doing.

I'm not going to judge them for having a baby. They suffered an unimagineable loss, and they can afford the finest medical care. Best wishes.

califblondy said...

I had read something a few years ago (probably when the gay rumors were heating up) that the Travoltas were thinking about having another baby. They need some happiness.

Ent, where can I order the "Guys Gone Wild" DVD?

Kelli said...

I think that they are doing it for Ella too- they probably don't want her to be the only child. I don't think they're trying to replace Jett, I really don't.

She could be getting an egg donor maybe, or being inseminated. I'm sure she was inseminated with her other two, but at 47, it's very possible that it was an egg donor.

I don't know, but the wording on his website just mentions an addition to the family....not really the words "pregnant". Could it be that maybe a surrogate is carrying the baby (ala SJP)??

jax said...

lol,you really think had they not lost Jett, Kelly and John were going to have another baby? uh uh. it require heterosexual sex,not one of Revolta's strong points.

lmnop123 said...

I'm sorry they lost their son and I'm sorry they lost two of their dogs but this pregnancy just feels all kinds of creepy and wrong to me.

JMHO

lmnop123 said...

Oh and they may have been trying to get pregnant before Jett's death to give Ella a sibling that was healthy. I know it's a sensitive subject to discuss replacing a child with special needs but that doesn't mean that parents who have them aren't trying to have another kid to "get it right" the next time around.

Linnea said...

wow...i hope they are happy, and that everything works out.

lutefisk said...

I am glad that she is pregnant, but I would doubt very much that it is her egg. On the other hand, they may not care about birth defects.
My poor sister in law just teminated a pregnancy at 43 due to downs syndrome & other birth defects that showed up in the testing. Not everyone can deal or want to deal with a special needs chil, but maybe they can.

nancer said...

i doubt kelly just turned up pregnant. i thought the wording of the announcement was interesting. it said they were going to have an addition to the family or something like that?
anyway, i bet they're using a donor egg or something like that.

i don't care what they do but i think that's way too old to be having a baby.

cricket said...

I wish them all the best. They have had a couple horrible things happen to them and they are due for some good luck. I hope they have a healthy happy baby

WBotW said...

Wow jax... how old are you? In this day and age you actually think it's only possible to conceive a child via heterosexual sex? Time to head back to school kiddo; you're way behind on the times.

In regards to this pregnancy: while I question anyone choosing to have a child at the age of 47, it's not my place to judge them. I don't think they're replacing Jett. He can't be replaced. Say whatever you will about the decisions the Travolta-Preston family made in the way they handled his illness, there can be no doubt they adored that boy. Look at any of the pictures of John and Kelly with him. He was the light of their lives and you canNOT replace someone you love that much. Do I think they would be having this child if he hadn't died? No, I don't. But he did, and life goes on. I know I never wanted my daughter to be an only child; it's a very lonely existence and I can't imagine how much harder it would be to go from having a sibling to being alone like that.
I wish them all the best, regardless of how this happened.
