Sergo Vega aka El Shaka Tells Fans He Is Alive - Then Gets Murdered
Mexican singer Sergio Vega sang songs about the drug violence in Mexico. At least a few times a year someone reports that the singer has been murdered. Well, after the most recent announcement Friday, Sergio gave an interview to La Oreja on Saturday to tell the world he was alive.
"It's happened to me for years now, someone tells a radio station or a newspaper I've been killed, or suffered an accident. And then I have to call my dear mom, who has heart trouble, to reassure her."
Shortly after the gave the interview, Vega was killed while driving to a concert. Gunmen fired on his car, he lost control and was killed.
According to a newspaper, gunmen made sure he was dead by firing bullets into his body while it was still in the car.

this goes to show we are fighting the wrong battle. mexico is having so many problems right now...and they are our neighbor!
and you wonder why people risk their lives try to come here!
I read that on the news this morning. Too bad he isn't here to enjoy the irony. Someone had suggested that it was because he had the fancy car, but those last few shots are too up close and personal for it to be robbery.
@Cheryl I'm thinking less irony, more deliberate! I wouldn't be surprised if they made him a specific target for clarifying that he's still alive.
moral of story: if you're a mexican singer, stick to sappy love songs.
Que Descanse en Paz, Sergio. It's sad, but there is no such thing as free speech in Mexico, pushing back only gets you killed :(

Can someone who knows clarify this?I'm hearing people say, "He wrote songs celebrating the lives of drug dealers and was possibly killed by a rival drug gang." I mean, is that what happened? I've heard it happened to several other singers, as well. If this is the case, Mexico is even more trouble than I thought.
it's sad and it scares me-cops get offed all the time, people just go missing-what the heck are we doing about it?
what are WE doing about it? what is MEXICO doing about it?
I really don't want to start a discussion about it - but, for us border states, the violence is bleeding into our cities and effecting both innocent american and mexican civilians. There has been an alarming rise of violent crime which is why I think AZ is trying to fight back, imo.

yes when someone tells you stop singing a song about how great my rival is you should stop singing or risk this fate
My friend Maria was two years old, living in northern Mexico with her family, when she saw her parents murdered by a rival businessman who happened to be her uncle. As she says, "the problem is gangs and gang culture." We have big problems that are peculiar to the US. That is one that is native to Mexico.
