Four For Friday - Kindness

Recently while shooting a movie, this B- list mostly television actress who had one big career role for a network and is on a current hit show, discovered that her makeup artist was having her home foreclosed. The makeup artist has four kids and her husband had died about 18 months earlier. Anyway, our actress could have written a check to cover the amount, but when other members of the cast and crew heard what had happened they decided to make the movie shoot also one big fundraiser. With the help of this B list actor/comedian and this B list Academy Award nominee/winner actress, they organized bake sales, dunking booths, bowling tournaments and anything else they could think of doing. It made the set fun and everyone participated and the woman received enough money to save her house.

#1 - B- list actress
#2 - B list actor/comedian
#3 - Academy Award nominee/winner
#4 - The name of the movie.

Wow, this is a true sense of community for all of these people. So in other words, they didn't just improve the lives of this woman and her family, but the workers, their families, everyone involved.

Betty White, Sandra Bullock, and Ryan whatshisface from The Proposal? I'm just guessing but it would make me happy if it's true :)

Courtney on Scream 39?

Folks,

I suggest we don't guess these answers.

Three cheers for the actress and actor. Thank you for your generosity.

But lets leave this unanswered to protect the makeup artist. This experience must be very hard on her; let her keep her privacy and dignity.

Not Sandra Bullock - the Academy Award nominee/winner was described in the blind as B list. Sandy's an A, no matter what. Even taking into account her flabbergasting taste in men.

Tina Fey, Steve Carrell, Taraji P Henson in "Date Night"

I immediately thought Courtney Cox. But I think she's A list or at least B+ minimum.

My mind then went to Patricia Heaton. Everybody Loves Raymond and now on The Middle. Definitely B- there. That's my pick.

Oooh, good word there, Ms. Snarky!
"flabbergasting"

Also, the makeup artist does have such a sad, sad, long road ahead. How awesome life is because my hubby is not dead! Counting my blessings. How awful for the makeup artist and her children.

Kudos and blessings all around!

And have a good safe weekend, everybody!

could we call David Arquette a B list actor/comedian? Just asking, not sure if he gets upped in status due to CC's influence.

For some reason, my first thought was Tina Fey and Steve Carrell, so I was happy to notice in the comments that someone else thought the same.

It is nice, but, if if I was the makeup artist I would have rather had s silent gift of cash and not a public display.

This BI seems contrived.

1. ? (Jennifer Aniston doesn't fit)
2. Adam Sandler
3. Nicole Kidman

Didn't they just finish filming a movie together in Hawaii?

Or...
1. Julie Benz (recently killed off on Dexter) or Elizabeth Mitchell (recently of Lost and V)
2. Dane Cook
3. Barbara Hershey

Film: Answers to Nothing (finished filming but not released yet.)

There is something off about this BI. Maybe the way it's written. .."when other members of the crew found out, they decided to make the shoot into a fundraiser..." So the crew did? The actress did not?

It does seem contrived to make the actress look good.

I agree, a silent cash gift is much more charitable than a spectacle.

I don't agree that a fundraiser was gauche, while a check would've been better. This presumes that the foreclosure is some kind of dirty secret. Why should a woman whose husband has just died (presumably the greater earner of the two, since makeup artists aren't known for making the big bucks), and have 4 kids feel ashamed that in this day and age her house is being foreclosed upon? This isn't some torrid blackmail or gambling debt payoff, this is a real family crisis that I'm sure hundred of thousands, possibly millions, of families can relate to.

We are living through a very real economic crisis, and real people are being affected in tragic ways. I won't diminish a sincere communal effort to help a family weather the storm.

I'm thinking CanCan may be on to something...

As for how it all came about, my guess is that the actress may have mentioned something quietly to another person in the production, said that she was going to help her out, and had the other person pipe up "Hey! I want to help too, and I bet some of the others would! Let's organize something!" and it just took off from there. A film set can be like a temporary family for a while, and it's understandable to want to help out a "family member"; also, I'm guessing that production members already knew about some of the woman's problems, and in this day and age, I don't see foreclosure as necessarily a shameful thing. She might be a tad embarrassed, but I'm thinking she's more touched than anything by the fact that so many people cared. (And hey, if you can have fun while helping someone out, why not?)

They may have been aware that her husband died but not that she was in foreclosure.

I'm going to assume that this is a true act of kindness and agree with what justjane said, Tina, Steve and Taraji.

My first thought was Steve & Tina too. Wasn't Steve a reveal in the past on a blind about having a block party or something for residents of a neighborhood he was disrupting to film a scene for a movie?

Thanks to Tina Fey, my BFF got engaged at the SNL set. She and her fiance fell in love watching the show together. He sent a fan letter to Tina requesting help with the proposal and she sent him tix to the show so he could propose there. A security type guy even snuck out during the show and bought roses for him to give her when he proposed. So sweet! :)

I had thought Lauren Graham too, but in my head, she's always an A.

Is Tina Fey a B? She's got an Emmy or two.

I think it was Cancan. Whoever it is, Love 'em.

Completely off topic, but an answer to an oft asked question. Watching Running with Scissors with G Paltrow. In one scene she refers to Bible Dipping. Using the bible as a sort of magic 8 ball. She explains that it is a way to answer questions such as, should we have fish-sticks for dinner. Voila. Her nickname. Michael K, you are too funny.

Julie Bowen?

Big career role was co-lead in "Ed" on NBC. She is now on the hit show "Modern Family."

IMDB states she just filmed "Jumping the Broom" with Angela Bassett, Oscar nominated for "What's Love Gotta Do With It," and Mike Epps, stand-up comic and actor.

However, I don't know that Bassett and Epps are both B-list. Bassett could be B-list, but Epps is probably C.

I liked Julie Bowen on "Ed." Now, not so much. Regrettably, I think she comes off smug and conceited in her interviews. She does fake self-depreciation. She said recently that she's considered below-average in looks in Hollywood and wishes she lived in the Midwest where she would be considered "hot." Way to condescend, especially for somebody who used to date David Spade until Spade cheated on her.

She was on Chelsea Handler and called Sofia Vergara "Cholo Barbie." She was joking, but it still rubbed a lot of people the wrong way because "cholo" is seen by many to be an ethnic slur.

If this kindness is about her, I guess I have her pegged wrong. I know people like her.

Has there ever been any gossip about her?

1. Courtney Cox
2. Anthony Anderson -- Is he more known for acting now?
3. Mary McDonnell
4. Scream 4 -- It's all being filmed in Detroit, and there are sooooooo many people here who have been hit hard by the economy.

Whoever did this is a very nice person. My first guess was Courtney because of Friends (breakout role) and Cougar Town (current hit show) and Scream 4 as the movie. Haven't really heard anything bad about Courtney, so I could see her doing something like this. But whoever it is....kudos for doing it.

This better be revealed soon.

What a nice thing to do! In this area of the country it is common to publicize this sort of thing. The people who participate enjoy knowing that they are helping someone, and the person they are helping is blessed by the number of people who turn out to help them. Not saying that's the situation, but it's possible that the woman gave this her blessing.

Unknown said...

With the economy the way it is in Hollyweird...coupled with your hubby`s death and four kids to support....you are going to be mighty thankful. Maybe not at first, which is why it was probably done this way, but in the end, she will get more support than a one time check! It brought awareness to this poor gals situation, no? I`m sure the fund raiser was well thought out.

At first I thought I'd had rather have just had a quiet check from the actress without the whole crew involved. However, after a little reflection, I think this was the better way. Money is a very touchy thing. A cash handout from one person could cause a lot of awkwardness, especially if these two work together often. This way no single person gave an enormous amount and the total amount becomes a gift and not a loan. Less stress for everyone that way.
