Hal Sparks Performs CPR For The Third Time

Remind me when I keel over from a heart attack to have Hal Sparks next to me. The actor, who starred in Queer As Folk, was in LAX last night when an elderly man fell to the ground. Apparently everyone was just in shock and did not know what to do. Hal did. He started giving CPR to the man while another woman handled the chest area. They kept it up until paramedics arrived to take the man to the hospital.

After the incident, Hal took to his Twitter to talk all about it.

Just did CPR for the 3rd time in my life.. What a night.. about 12 hours ago via Twittelator When they took him away he was breathing on his own... Hope he makes it. Now I get to shake from the adrenalin for the next 2 hours Everybody NEEDS to take a CPR class. Out of 200 people only 2 of us new CPR.. okay enough preaching.. I need a nap

Hal then got on a flight. I know how to give CPR. That being said, I have never had to use that skill. It amazes me that Hal has done it three times. I'm glad he was around those three times. Hard to believe only 2 people knew how to perform CPR.

Wow. Good for him, I hope the man makes it. He was very lucky to have Hal and that woman around. Unbelievable that out of all of those people only two knew how to do it. I was taught how to do CPR in high school. They should teach that to everyone.

I have always liked Hal and I like him even more now. Thank god that he could keep his head about him and help this man! What a good guy. :-)

In health class, they teach it to everyone right? Maybe because of the scare of watching that man on the ground most people don't think about reacting quickly. Now what are the odds of Hal doing it three times?

Hal is one of the funniest people in the world. He's also a good, solid actor. I wish he would work more. Why he doesn't is beyond me.

And it's nice to know he cares enough about the rest of humanity to get involved.

I also thought it was manditory in High School health class. I learned in HS. I've never had to use it, though.

YAY! I love it when people I think are talented also happen to be really cool and nice as well.
Do you know how many celebs would probably have just rolled their eyes and continued on, or wouldnt have even seen the old man because of their crowd of entourage? Ugh

Thanks Hal, for being both hot (in a pocket size way) and super nice!

and all I learned in my health class was how to NOT get STDs, lol

I get re-certified(Red Cross)every year and I definitely need it. I always forget the number of breaths and compressions. I haven't had to do CPR, but I have used the first aid in a variety of situations.
Good for him for getting involved. He probably saved that man's life.

Chances are Hal did CPR on a man who only fainted. I know people who work EMS that haven't performed CPR three times in 20 years. And for it to be a save? Chances are slim to none.

Good on him for trying to help, but I doubt the necessity of his actions.

Never saw Queer as Folk and only know Hal Sparks from stand up and shows like I Love The 70's/80's/90's, etc. but I think he's very funny and damned cute. Nice to know he's got a heart, too.

Definitely never learned CPR in school here (though we should!) - I learned it when training to be a fitness instructor, which I only did on the side for a few years, so I haven't done a refresher it for a few years.
But I'm with cativagrl - without regular training, I'm not sure even now I would remember the correct method, compression, etc. Glad he did.

I think he's adorable and me too @Mango (I love the...).

Good for him.

Wow, between him & Tommy, they could open a clinic.

I loved him on all the I Love the shows too.

I never had to learn CPR but I agree with Lady J that everyone totally SHOULD have to. Cool that Hal knew how to & was able to help out in the situation. I'm not sure every person, sadly, let alone actors, would have rushed in to help.

I saved someone with the heimlich maneuver once. I'd never done it before but knew how it was supposed to go.

Very impressive & yay me.

Oh yeah, what Hal did is pretty cool too. ; )

CPR has actually changed to a one person/no breath maneuver...he was doing it wrong.

Maybe he could get a job with Bobby Sherman. :)

@Majik, so it's compression only?

dude. Your handsome, humorous and life saving?

Cheri said...

Yes, shakey, compression only. New guidelines.

Beg to disagree. Someone who has fainted is still breathing and anyone trained in CPR knows to check for breath first.
