Kate Gosselin Gets Paid The Same As Patrick Dempsey

How long has Patrick Dempsey been an actor? I am too lazy to go look at his IMDB, but I remember him in Can't Buy Me Love and Loverboy and so many movies from over 20 years ago. He worked hard and became a star. He is on a huge network hit show and he makes $250,000 an episode. A lot of money to be sure, but he has worked hard for it.

Kate Gosselin who has no talent other than the fact she gave birth and managed to stay married to Jon Gosselin for longer than a week also earns $250,000 an episode. Does not really seem fair does it?

TV Guide has lots of salaries of the stars on television and it is shocking how much Kate makes compared to say Jane Lynch who makes $50K an episode. In fact Kate makes more per episode than the entire cast of Big Bang Theory and Jane Lynch combined. Why? She gave birth. Millions upon millions of women give birth each year and none of them are pulling down $250K a week. It is not like Kate is friendly or funny or talented. She got lucky in the birth lottery and had sextuplets and now makes more than Jon Hamm, Anna Paquin and Blair Underwood combined. Really?

Here is the drama list. For all the others you can click here.

Drama (per episode)

Hugh Laurie (House) $400,000+

No Michael C. Hall? I wanna see how much Dexter makes! lol

Thats per episode? Oh my, I just got dizzy. Here I was begining to feel sorry for Ian Somerhalder only making $40,000 a year, only it isn't.

BAH!

Kate Gosselin is grossly grossly overpaid. Can't we get rid of whining grumpy ass ??

I can't believe she makes compared to the others.

My first reaction? Jada Pinkett Smith should be paying THEM for her weekly show. It's the only thing that is certifying her as an actress anymore. I mean professionally. I'm sure she is a fine actress when she talks about all the sex she and her husband have.

David Caruso is one of the top earners? Couldn't they replace him with any ramdom actor, slap a red wig on him and tell him not to move any part of his face except his mouth and to forgo using the bathroom so they get that constipated look.

I'm stopping now.

if the lazy, couch potato, reality tv loving idiots would stop watching hers and other shows in the same genre, there would be no need to compare the salaries of hard working actors to the trailer park trash of KG.

how atrocious... i cannot believe that gosselin makes more than Jon Hamm and Nathan Fillion... crap, a lot of these are quite frustrating and angering!

when is america going to be over its infatuation with these tragic reality show hookers???

I foresee a lot of contract re-negotiations happening after this list gets out. I mean, if I was John Hamm and found out that David Caruso, LL Cool J, and Mark Harmon make more than me, while my show had more critical acclaim and is just plain better, I would be pissed!

jess said...

Oh man....the lists are unbelievable! I just think some of them are way over paid. I can't believe tv makes that much money.

It seems like a lot specially when dollars are not my currency and with Hugh Laurie's payment per episode (in colombian pesos) I could paid for a university career, grad school and get a phd. Including meals, books, etc. Oh my god!!!

Kate Goselin is paid 250K per episode to bitch!? Hell, I want that job.

awesome balla. said...

dude. icarly makes 180k/show. crazy.

I need my own reality show. Cameras should follow me around all day as I surf the internet, eat marzipan, and do nothing. Ka-CHING!!!

La Pachuquita said...

Oh, and the arsenic on top for John Hamm would be that Kate "Gross"elin makes 1.5 times than him when he has talent and all she has is an overstretched uterus.

Unknown said...

That sounds wrong. $250,000 FOR TLC?????? If that amount is right, they,(TLC) redid the salaries so instead of dividing the salaries equally, or something like that, they gave most or more of the kids pay to Kate, so Jon can't get his hands on it. I am sure her lawyers and TLC insisted on it, after all that CRAP that Jon pulled last year with how much he made and where was the kids money, etc. This way, he can't say anything if it is Kate's

Unfortunately, with the "dumbing down" of America it is not likely there will be an end anytime in the near future for reality TV. Media CEO's & President's who decide what is aired have a choice but since most sheepeople (according to ratings etc) would rather watch what I would call voyeurism TV than a good comedy, drama, or educational program, the rest of us will have little choice but to watch the weekly train wrecks most stations currently offer up.

I worked in entertainment for 4yrs and can tell you show business is strictly about numbers and money. If people watch a show, they can get higher paying advertisers and for some reason reality TV is big bucks.

What's worse, is reality TV prevents other material from being producing by taking up coveted time slots in prime time, which causes real ACTORS to lose work. Now, some of the people on this list are obviously higher quality actors than others, but KG is just someone using her children to make a buck and has certainly surpassed her 15mins of fame for just having some babies.

La Pachuquita took the words right out of my mouth. Twice. Poor Jon Hamm. He deserves more than that.

Let's just hope that Kate Grosselin puts all that money to good therapist for her kids.

Pookie said...

reality tv needs to die.

shakey said...

I think reality tv needs to be renamed Trainwreck TV. It isn't reality at all.

Although let me take that back a little bit. Last night on Jersey Shore (I know, I'm part of the problem) they had to get jobs at a gelato shop. One person on the show - one - seemed to take the job seriously. It was the first time I saw a glimmer of real life on one of these shows.

What will all these people do when their gravy train ends? They'll want to continue with their lifestyle and we'll be subjected to them for years to come. They won't go away.

looserdude said...

What's funny is that teenager Miranda Cosgrove from iCarly makes more than a lot of the big established actors, but why not, if her show sells the advertisements that makes the money? Same for Kate or anyone else.

Anonymous said...

it's about advertising and ratings, no matter how critically acclaimed a show is.

von said...

I know it's about ratings and all, but Caruso is overpaid by about $370,000 per episode. He is the absolute pits.

I cannot believe how much actors make. It's gross.

Anonymous said...

If I were in their shoes, I would take the money too.

pusssykatt said...

I'm fairly certain that I read that's what she's making for the whole season. TV Guide goofed.

jax said...

Chick made the same as Speidi.sad.

jax said...

lol..take a look at what your company makes vs what YOU make...TLC makes big bucks off Kate.

sorry that was CHUCK- zack levi

Lets say she does make $375k for the entire year, the show has 23 Eps (based on Season 5 listings on IMDB), it airs from May - Nov so probably films late April to late Oct or early Nov, depending how long it takes to get it through production and in the can. So, she works about about 6mos for $375k which is about $62.5k a month. That is certainly higher than most people make a year let alone half of it.

For the sake of argument, break it down per ep and it's still $16.3 per episode. Still a lot of money for a bunch of CRAP. Not to mention, when you read the breakdowns on some of the eps they use footage from previous eps with little to no new content. Keep in mind, she gets paid residuals every time they air the darned show! And I believe, I could be mistaken, but they get paid for reused footage as well. So the $375k a year is just the beginning...

has anyone gone through the link and seen that Charlie Sheen makes 1.25 MILLION an episode!! every single episode! I really really hope there is a mistake there cos that is rather depressing.

Jessi said...

Wow it still is so unbelieveable as to how much people get paid in the entertainment industry!! But I honestly don't understand how someone can get paid $400,000 for 45 minutes of air time. I really hope every one of these people are doing a little to give to charity and spread the wealth.

Boriqua said...

I agree, La Pachuquita -- How many of these actors are going to want to renegotiate their contracts after this list comes out? Not to mention just be flat-out pissed about what others are making. Charlie Sheen is so not worth $1.25 million a week. He's not worth even $1.25 a week.

mooshki said...

Mmm, the $100,000 section is where all the super-hotties hang out!!! Dayum!

bonnjill said...

Caruso makes $375,000 an episode? I am going to crawl back into bed and weep uncontrollable. There is absolutely no justice in this world. He's the worst part about CSI: Miami and that's saying something. Ugh.

sunnyside1213 said...

Nathan Fillion needs to speak up immediately. And don't get me started about Sheen.

Meg said...

@SittingPat - I know, right?? I wanted to like HawthoRNe because I have a HUGE crush on Michael Vartan but I could not deal with Jada's awful acting. AWFUL.

I don't understand how we are able to know how much any of these people make? I almost don't want to know. Its really sickening.

this post just made me so incredibly angry. i just got my first job and started this past Monday working as a special education teacher. I will receive $40K as a first year teacher. I will likely work 50-60+ hours a week. Yet, assholes like Kate Gosselin earn hundreds of thousands of dollars because...she had a litter of kids. Shit, my dog could have 6 pups too, nothing to get all excited about. I hope these people donate to charities and thank their lucky stars they aren't "normal" people like us that would have to work 10+ years in order to earn the salary they get in an hour long TV show.

Paisley said...

I don't think these salaries are that outrageous. Networks pay what they feel they need to and everyone make money or they wouldn't do it.

These actors are the lucky few. And when their shows go off the air, they will be lucky to get a similar show ever again in their careers. Check out these names again in 10 years and see what they're making. Or what they made 10 years ago. It's feast or famine.

CDAN Mod said...

Well said, Paisley.

If this is anywhere near accurate, I'm thinking I can live without TLC until they shitcan that ghastly woman and her child army show.

chopchop said...

Kate gets $250k, what do her overexposed children get? I mean, besides a bitchy Mom, a lazy Dad, strange men wielding cameras in the bathroom while potty-training, and a "free" trip to Alaska with Sarah Palin?

nadja22 said...

Anna Paquin...$75,000 per episode...so sad!

lmnop123 said...

I agree with Cheryl's post about the dumbing down of America and Paisley comment about their salaries being temporary.

But, if you watch Kate's show for any reason you have no one to blame but yourself. She cannot make money if you ignore her. I feel good that I've done my part and if she pisses you off too than don't watch her. As a matter of fact you can get rid of any overpaid "celebrity" just by refusing to buy whatever it is that they're selling.

These people are determined to sell us crap so we need to stubbornly refuse to buy it.

Don't get mad, get even! :)

Don't write about her. Plain and simple. Writing a post about her gives her publicity. Putting her name in the title means it'll come up in search engines which helps drive traffic to your website. If you don't write about her, fewer people will hear about her. People will begin to lose interest and she'll go away.

This post could've been about how awful it is that Charlie Sheen makes that much $$$ or that David Caruso is actually paid for his terrible acting. But instead it was about Kate Gosselin. No one does searches for David Caruso but people do for Kate Gosselin and then they find your site and voila, a new visitor.

Constantly posting about reality celebrities and how they're annoying and should go away WILL NOT MAKE THEM GO AWAY. It's just free publicity. Take a stand. Ban them.

I agree with Anita_Mark. Who watches Kate anymore? I watched 5 min of her "new" show, and it happened to be about her getting hair extensions. Thankfully, it put me to sleep. She's a pompous ass and a creep. I've had enough of her, and Paris, and Lindsay. Oh, and Miley, too.
