Tabloids Hack Into Voice Mails Of Royals And Other Celebs

The New York Times has run an exhaustive piece that is worth your time to read. It is extremely long but shows how tabloids in the Rupert Murdoch chain were all able to get exclusive stories on Prince William and Harry and several other notable British celebrities. Two journalists managed to get the PIN numbers to voice mails.

The article discusses how Scotland Yard chose to focus only on the hacking of the Royal voicemails and chose to ignore all the other celebrities being hacked because they did not want to antagonize Rupert Murdoch or his tabloids with whom they have a cozy relationship.

Two News Of The World reporters were at the center of the ring, and if their tabloid did not want a particular story or if another outlet would be better they would pass along the information to another Murdoch tabloid like The Sun.

It is fascinating read. Thanks to everyone who sent me the link.

How strange that only one British paper, the Guardian, is covering this story. So much for free and fearless media.

Rupert Murdoch and his minions make me sick. One minion, the NoW editor who knew about and encouraged this, is now David Cameron's spin doctor.

Did anyone see the pictures of Prince Hot Ginge on Dlisted? He was riding his horse in a Polo match, the horse was bleeding from his spurs. Jackass. Makes me want to kick him in the sides with spurs until he bleeds, and then make him do laps. Asshole.

Agree, Icecat :(

Totally agree, Icecat. The photos are disturbing and all the backpedaling to make excuses for this cruel behavior, disgusting.

Before signing off for a long weekend, wanted to send CDAN thanks for making an ugly summer less so. Our community is the best gossip/not always online. And RocketQueen, I always look for your POV posts.

Thanks, Enty!

Justice should be swift and painful to anyone caught hacking into any account. Damned "entitled because I can" SOB's.

*smiling* Happy Holiday, everyone.

I was pretty sad that "Hot Gringe" needed to use spurs. A good rider doesn't need them. Wonder what Granny, I like horses better than people, thought.

Wow, thanks TinselSass! Hope your fall is better than your summer :)

That whole article was filled with 'wow.' It takes a special kind of scum to hack into the phone of a crime victim.

feeraltart, it is Labor Day on Monday. I have no idea what we are celebrating. Anyone?

Labor Day was started in the 1880s by a workers union in NYC to honor their members contribution to the economy. It took a few years for the state and local governments of the US to adopt it as a holiday, it was first celebrated on a Tuesday. When it became a federal holiday, it began being celebrated on the first Monday in September. Happy Labor Day, I will be loving my day off!!!!!!

It's to honor the hard work of all workers in the US. Remember, we don't get the 6 week a year vacations that Europe gets. We get only 2 weeks, even after we work there a year. We are beaten up compared to other countries.

Also, Harry did not mean to hurt his animal, and it was probably an accident. They love their fricking polo ponies, more than their own mothers. They are their babies. They also are punished if they draw blood on an animal during a match.

Someone needs to hack Rupert Murdoch's phones and expose his crapola.

Prince Wills seems a nice enough guy but WTF is up with Prince Harry? He seems to be a bit of a tool.
