Cast & Crew Of Hangover 2 Send Mel Gibson Packing
Yesterday, the director of Hangover 2, Todd Phillips, announced that Mel Gibson would not be in a cameo for the upcoming Hangover 2. "I thought Mel would have been great in the movie and I had the full backing of Jeff Robinov and his team. But I realize filmmaking is a collaborative effort, and this decision ultimately did not have the full support of my entire cast and crew." It appears that Zach Galifianakis was the driving force behind this decision, so good on Zach.
Deadline says in their post that it is not fair because they do not see what Mel Gibson did to deserve banishment. They also say it is not fair because Mike Tyson is a rapist and he got to be in the first Hangover. That is true and I was not a big fan of that decision and felt they should have left him out. They also said that it is not fair because actors still appear in Roman Polanski films. This is also true, but I think actors who do that are wrong.
Will Mel Gibson ever make it back? Probably. People have very short term memories, but that does not make it right.

I am no longer a fan of Mel Gibson and hate that he calls himself a Catholic-he is not in terms of adhering to the real Catholic Church, IMO, and makes the rest of us Catholics look bad. That said, what exactly has he done that would make him be disqualified from working, particularly if he was hired and a contract was signed. (I will assume they will still pay him?)
As far as I know, he had a DUI and drunkenly spewed some hateful anti-semitic and sexist language. Then recording of his private arguments with his grilfriend were aired and he is being accused of domestic abuse. He hasn't been arrested yet and it seems more likely that Oksana will be prosecuted than him.
Don't get me wrong, I don't like the guy, but have to agree that in the greater scheme of things, there are a lot worse people out there who still seem to get work, aka Roman Polanski, Mike Tyson and all the sports celebrities, musicians and other actors who have been arrested for drugs, violence, etc... Just seems to me that this whole anit-Mel thing has gotten a life of its own.
I think it might be a case of change the record Mel. Perhaps everyone is getting sick of his shenanigans? I know I am.
He'll work again. And at the end of the day there are LOTS of people in Hollywood who are TEN times worse then him. They are ALL hypocrites. Let the secrets of some of them get out and they will be in the same place as Mel, although probably with less money.
Anon-I did not know that about Bradley Cooper. I remember the story specifically stating that Bradley did NOT object to Mel's participation in the movie. Interesting.
I don't know... to me it isn't Hollywood with the short memories, it's the cash-welding masses. As long as John Q. Public keeps shelling out his money for movie tickets that star these douchebags, or for the CD's they record (I'm looking at you, Chris Brown), or even placing a vote at the polls for a politician who is repeatedly found to take bribes, earmarks, etc... then Hollywood (and record studios and our government) will keep hiring them.
At the end of the day, it's not Hollywood with the power. It's the public. But too many people are easily swayed... so I don't see it changing anytime soon.
For the record, earmarks aren't illegal.

Mike Tyson served his time. Roman and others have not and will not.

lady j you are correct. it all depends on one's pr firm and how well like they are by those with real power behind the scenes. just ask morgan freeman. still making a ton from those visa commercials.

I tend to think there is more to this story than we really know. More of a reason why Zach would not want Mel to be apart of the movie.
Perhaps we'll never know.
Oops, you are right, Sue Ellen - my bad. I was actually thinking of a local situation where earmarks are being investigated and probed for fraud. I should not have used that term so generally!

Just because some actors/actresses want to work with Polanski doesn't mean they all do. We'll never hear about the ones who pass on his films.

The Bradley Cooper allegations I don't think were ever substantiated, were they? Just a lot of thinly veiled allegations ... not taking sides here but it's a very serious accusation.
I agree with the person that said Mike Tyson has done his time and Roman Polanski and Mel Gibson have not. ALSO - Mike Tyson has at least done a lot to attempt to show that he has reformed. Roman Polanski keeps trying to say what he didn't wasn't a crime and Mel Gibson thinks he's done nothing wrong.
I believe in people being able to serve their sentences and move on. I believe in people being held accountable for what they've done but getting a second chance AFTER they prove they have changed.
I think the Mike Tyson situation is different. Eff Roman Polanski though.
The tribe has spoken, and hopefully people will continue to speak out against working with him.
What time should Mel Gibson have done? Again, not sticking up for the guy, but all he has been convicted of is one DUI, am I right?
I believe Mike Tyson is sincerely remorseful for his past behavior.
Mel should have been convicted of assault, but the situation is too muddied for them to ever take it to trial.
Aren't ALL Hollywood hiring decisions based on public opinion? They announced his cameo, and the public said "no thank you" and he was gone.
