Meh. Miley Cyrus Boozing It Up In Spain

Miley Cyrus was spotted drinking what looks to be like an ice cold beer while in Madrid last night. The drinking age in Spain is 18 and Miley is 17, but who really cares. I would have done the same thing and the police in Madrid said it happens all the time and they don't really care either. Miley will probably get crap for it, but if any of us were teenagers in Spain and were offered a beer at a club I am pretty sure we would accept whether we were underage or not and she is not underage by much.

I so cannot pass judgment on this one, as much as I'd like to. I was a menace at 17.

I'm sure she has had more than her share stateside. I know I sure did at her age. Except I couldn't affort Corona...more like Milwaukee's Best.

I believe that very few people have not had a least a beer by the time they are 16. I used to spend summers with my mother's family in France....yes, I did quite a bit of drinking.

no judgement from me im west indian we start young ..too young by that age i had way more than a more and it all was consented ...hey let live

No big judgment from me, either. With her lifestyle and upbringing, we all know she'd be lucky if alcohol's the only thing she's doing.

Lainey (whose blinds I'm beginning to question, however) had another semi-reveal about Miley almost a year ago about how she's drinking A LOT, so not terribly surprised.

I think the 21-year-old drinking age in America is so freakin stupid.

My parents would let us have a glass of wine or a beer in our later teen years with dinner. I don't see anything wrong with it.

Uhhhh... said...

Agreed! Who friggin cares?

I say make the drinking age 18. Of course half of you will think that promotes alcoholism, but I don't think it's right that an 18 year old citizen can go to war in Iraq & Afghanistan but they can't enjoy a cold one when they're on leave. And it's not like we don't have 17-18 year olds drinking here anyway. All you need is an older sibling or friend and voila! Good times & STDs to be had by everyone!

I agree with chicken 100%.

Yep, I had booze younger than that because I grew up in Europe. I feel like by the time I was 21, I had gotten it out of my system and after college had time to focus on work/career instead of spending my 20's in a partying haze. One of the up sides of a lower drinking age. It definitely didn't do me any harm. I partied when I was a teenager and my parents knew where I was, so I was always safe - not hiding it from them.

Nice to see people not freaking out about this. Not many 17 year olds out there who haven't had a drink by that age. I was pretty much an angel as a child and even I had some wine coolers by the time I was 17 (ah, Bartles & Jaymes - how I miss thee!)

This is no big deal at all (and I can't judge because I started social drinking here when I was 15 or so). When I was in Spain and I saw a 12-year-old boy buying a bottle of wine (less than 2 euros!!) to bring home his family. They do not care there. Why? Because people there look down on those who get tanked. I really admire that lifestyle.

It makes me sad that here in the US, the prudish laws make every gasp when someone underage drinks, but laugh at those who stumble around and say stupid things. I prefer the Spanish way of drinking, though when I was there I did occasionally drink like a fish with my friends.

Karmen said...

Whoops, let me clarify. I don't admire that they look down on people for getting obliterated; I admire that they're not prudish and can drink casual without judgment.

My friends and I have gone to Spain a couple of time when we were 15/16 and have gotten served. Its not that big of a deal in Europe... why does she get so much crap for having a beer? she's not doing anything the rest of us haven't done at her age.

I'm not saying a word - my first drink was at the age of 14! What teenagers go to Mexico and don't drink these days? It happens!

Momster said...

If there was a possibility that my mother was schtuppin' Bret Michaels, well, I'd probably be drinking, too.

Good one Momster!

Here in Germany the law allows 16-year-olds to drink beer. Wine and schnaps only at the age of 18 though and I think it's okay that way.

The only issue I see is being dumb enough to do it in public and get photographed doing in, given her target audience.

Ice Angel said...

Why am I always the opposite of everyone else? I have always been the biggest defender of her, but this one takes the cake. I really don't care what she does in her private life, but she willingly was photographed with a beer in her hand. What a slap in the face to the parents who support her show, music, concerts, product lines, etc... This was a bad move on her part, in my opinion. Her show is still running on Disney Channel and now millions of young girls who look up to her are going to want to drink Corona now.

RocketQueen said...

Oh, I agree, Ice Angel. But no one ever said Miley was smart. I think the "chinese eyes" photograph last year and the "pole grinding" right after has shown she has very little respect for her main fans or their parents. She's just being Mileeeyyyy!

MacVixen said...

I get where you are coming from Ice Angel but I must respectfully disagree. "millions of young girls who look up to are going to want to drink Corona now". Really? What age are you talking about? It's been 25+ years since I was 15ish, but I had many a celebrity idol back in my teens and I never took the worship to a level that I ever said "Well, Simon LeBon does it, so it must be ok!" I think we need to give the youth of today a little more credit than that.

I'm not a big fan of drinking. Both my parents are alcoholics so I had some bad examples growing up. This picture doesn't bother me at all. She doesn't look drink and she's less than 3 weeks from her 18th birthday. My bigger concern is the way she usually dresses. When my 11 year old daughter started commenting on the way Miley dresses, that says a lot.

Elle said...

I think Miley has surpassed the point of the Mouse House having any real control over her. She wants to be a movie star and get out from under their shadow anyway. She also knows she will get publicity from this photo and controversy with young girls seems to be the #1 way to boost star power. It's sad and sick but it's reality.

the big difference is in Spain it's part of culture to have wine, here it's way to get FKN HAMMERED WOOHOOO! binge drinking is really really looked down on there.

the pope is going to be in Spain spouting off about gays in a "same sex marriage is legal" country filled with Catholics...should be interesting.

chihuahuense said...

@Kate--The BEAST!!! lol, that shit and PBR give me a headache just looking at them.

wtf does the Pope have to do with Miley?

Meg said...

I started drinking at 13 or 14 so....don't really see a problem with this. I agree with @chicken.

@chihuahuense - PBR is one of my husband's favorites. Do. Not. Get. It. :-/

ardleighstreet said...

As long as she didn't get behinde a wheel and drive I could care less. If I had her family I'd be drinking too.

RocketQueen said...

I think it's obvious what's tying jax's post and this article together is "Spain". Spain.

chihuahuense said...

you guys never cease to amaze me. It is so hard for you to understand that disrespect can go two ways. RQ, please, you feel the need to jump into conversations that don't involve you, and to be blunt, you really can't hang. I would never say that gays were spouting off about same sex marriage...do you know why? Because it is disrespectful. But it goes much deeper, for me anyway, to hear some one saying the Pope is "spouting off". You two are the biggest hypocrites of all and I can't possibly expect you to understand. Aren't you two the ones who, when Enty basically threatened to out someone in a gay reveal were all "OMG that is so horrible, please don't do it, being gay should not be BI material, blah blah blah." Oh, yeah, but when he originally posted the blind you had to jump in with your guesses. One.example.of.how.you.contradict.yourselves. I've said it before...dis my religion and expect me to call you out.

jax said...

and expect me not to really care. i don't bother with people who defend molesters, fucking Pope or not.

that's where we are different i didn't say anything about your holier than thou beliefs. i merely pointed out how interesting it will be to see a Pope come in and speak against homosexuality in a country that has passed same sex marriage.

alarmist much?

chihuahuense said...

alarmist much? Because I said "wtf does the Pope have to do with Miley"? You don't make any sense:
a. Prove the Pope is a molester
b. how did I get all holier than thou on you? Was it because I said you were disrespectful? Really? So sad, funny that are pointing out inequities in how people are treated but you seemed to miss Common Courtesy 101.
3. I don't give a flying fuuuuuuuuck whether you care or not. You talked shit about the Pope and I talked shit about what you said. Bam, we're even. I don't care to argue with you, I've got better things to do. My point has been made--move on and grow the fuck up.

Team anti-organized religion!

Team Jesus as mighty wise philosopher!

Team STFU about religion, already!

And, surprisingly enough for me, team jax! I agree with your 'offensive' posts 100%. But I don't talk about it in mixed company, because there's the chance of having to have a fruitless argument...but, hey--that's just me.

The rules must have changed in Spain since 2007. At that time there wasnt a drinking age, at least not one that was enforced. There was beer in vending machines and booze in the grocery store.

Mango said...

chihuahuense - you can't call out people for jumping into "conversations" on a message board. I was raised Roman Catholic, but all the falsehoods and cover-ups tipped me over into not atheism but APATHY.

Now, back to the original topic: Miley is a tart and god only knows what else.

chihuahuense said...

I can call people out for whatever I want. You also can't sit there and bitch about people not being respected when you aren't respecting people yourself. I also don't care if you were raised a Catholic or a werewolf--the point isn't a theological discussion, it is to point out that no one on this board says, 'oh gays stink' or 'I can't stand vegetarians' or 'agnostics are illiterate' because we know it is offensive---yet to bash religion, that's so hip and acceptable. I'm not asking anyone to be religious, just respect the fact that it is offensive to bash someone's core, someone's love, someone's life. Is that really REALLY too much to ask? I don't think so, apparently many of you do. If you don't that's fine, too. I'll say a little prayer for you and I will still say whatever I think. You see, it goes both ways---if people want to say offensive things, then I can say whatever I want to. Get smart, just because your mama let you say whatever you want doesn't mean it's right, and it doesn't mean someone won't challenge you.

Char said...

She'll just say the person taking the photo asked her to hold their drink while they took the picture, and she wasn't drinking.

But yah, I don't care. I was drinking at 17 too.

RocketQueen said...

Er no chi, that wasn't me. And you can be damn sure if you're going to jump into my convos (last week), I'll jump into yours. I'd be happy to go our separate ways henceforth, since I don't buy into your religious bigotry and I certainly don't want to "hang" with that. Now write whatever you like, I won't be back here to read it.

And jax - so cool your bro and his partner made it out to kiss in front of the Pope! Take that, bigots!

chihuahuense said...

Just because I am religious does not mean I am a bigot. I have never said anything bigoted on here. In fact, I just gave two prime examples where you are the bigot. Say whatever you want but the bottom line is that I have been respectful to your beliefs and I am only asking the same in return.
