I just recently started watching "Modern Family" and I love it - Sofia Vergara is one of my favourite, she really is a very good comedic actor and she is perfect for that role.
Now, I know that nutritionally, there may be nothing wrong with letting your 6-year-old breastfeed. But it's still fucking weird.

I thought that breast milk has the nutrients needed for the age that the child is, depending on birth. Therefore, the 6 year old would be drinking milk that is fitting for the baby. But I could be wrong. Still, it seems ishy at that age.

That is extremely wrong and borders on child abuse. It is extremely psychologically damaging to continue to breastfeed to that age. We discussed this issue at lengths in one of my psychology classes at university (I have a psych degree specializing in child development) and while it is recommended that women breastfeed for longer than the average (which is less than a year - apparently it's recommended up to about 3 years) it is IN NO WAY good for their health or their psychological development to still be continuing at 6 years. Wrong wrong wrong. All kinds of wrong.
That's just all kinds of wrong (re: the breastfeeding picture). I worked with a nurse who was BIG in the LaLeche League (or whatever it was called) and she would chastize anyone who didn't plan on breastfeeding their babies, and then would make them feel like shit when the stopped at a respectable age. She breast fed all of her children until they were 8 or 9 years old if I remember correctly (she had 3 kids total - one set of twins). Ugghhh!
All kinds of wrong with the breastfeeding a child of that age. Also I remember something about Lindsay Wagner breastfeeding her son until he was 8 or so, this was a long time ago. Yuck!

My grandmother breastfed my aunt until she was almost 4 in the desperate hope that she wouldn't get pregnant...she finally had to stop when she found out she was pregnant w/my mom. (It can reduce the likelihood of pregnancy, but as my mom's existence proves, it's not a surefire thing.) Let's just say there was a degree of resentment on my aunt's part and leave it at that, shall we?
While I'm a definite believer in nursing for a year (if you can), as far as I'm concerned, if the kid's old enough to drink out of a real glass, he's old enough to get off the tit, eh?

I worked at a hotel once that held a conference for a certain breast feeding organization. We (employees and other guests) were treated to women nursing great whopping children in public areas all over the hotel, both inside andout. Maybe it was a coincidence but many were surly and rude. But what do you expect from women who routinely FLUSHED diapers down our toiles?

I have been in the early child development field for 24 years, and here is a good rule to live by: once your child can argue with you about the breast, it's TIME TO STOP. *shudder* Any mother who is still breast-feeding a child past the age of three years old has some attachment/ abandonment issues that need to be addressed ASAP. Letting a 6-year-old suckle???? Wrong, wrong, and WRONG. Period.
I'd get the 6yr old off the boob straight away and there is no way that baby is newborn, looks at least 6 months old by the size.
My rule was, once he could name it, he could no longer have it. The day my kid walked up to me and demanded "boobie" I said "uh-uh! no siree!"
But in a book I read as a new mom, it said, "a child will naturally wean themselves between the ages of two and TWELVE!"
The breast-feeding in nucking futs! You can tell by looking at her she's got a monkey juggling knives in that head of hers. The six-year-old sucking on her boob is just additional proof. I believe in breast feeding for a year, maybe a year and a half. Seriously, women who do this have serious, serious problems. I'd hate to be any poor girl this boy ever dates.

Breast feeding picture is unnecessary. I opted not to breast feed my child. My child was healthy, never suffered from infections or heavy colds. Only took him to the doctor for immunizations and regular checkups. I don't believe it's necessary in this day and age, unless there isn't another alternative for the mother. There, I said it. To each their own.

I can't believe I actually know this random piece of trivia, but Vera Wang created Evan's costumes for the Vancouver Olypmpics, which is just as elaborate as having a gown created, so it's not so random that they're catching a game together given that many celebs have some kind of relationship with a designer that they use a lot (I wouldn't be surprised to catch Renee Zellweger and Carolina Herrera having a cocktail together for example)

Yeah, I couldn't believe that I knew the random pic of Vera & Evan, too! While Evan was on DWTS, Vera was on-camera saying very complimentary things about him. They're just good friends.
I'm very pro breastfeeding, I think it's great you show pics of it, but that is WAY TOO OLD. My daughter was about 20 months, and I was feeling way awkward about it.

Everyone get off your judgment train about the breastfeeding, would ya? I used to get my panties in a bunch about women breastfeeding in public and now I'm a Mama who breastfeeds her almost-2-year-old in public a lot. The judgment comes more from your own lack of comfort with boobies and what they are made for - feeding! Civilization has trained us that we are "oh so civilized" and not to make the connection that we are just animals...but we are, and we feed babies with our boobs. Deal with it.
I don't have a problem with breastfeeding. I breastfed my kids but they were weaned off when they could eat and drink out of a sippy cup. But would you give a bottle to a 6 year old? Then why the hell are you letting him suck off the boob? That is totally ridiculous.

I can't help but be judgy by the 6 year old breastfeeding. Sorry, it's weird. I definitely agree w/ the long term breast feeding being some sort of weird attachment issues, based on some folks I know. Maybe I'll think different when I have them but...I really don't think so.

I dont mind people breastfeading, nor doing it in public, and i think it is super good for your kid if you can do it (not that it will kill it if you cant, but it is really good for it) but that is really pushing it, i agree.
