Hi Nelly, your album tanked so sorry.

Rumer and Trevor have to be one of the blind items dealing with fake relationships.

I hate Pamela Anderson. Even if it is fake, you're still perpetuating the fur trend. I know many readers (and Enty) will hiss and boo me for saying this, but I love wearing fur and leather. There. It feels good to let it out.

If you don't like fur, fine. I don't care. I just don't appreciate anti-fur wearers shoving their beliefs down my throat when I respect you enough not to do the same to you. It really pissed me off when she told Ultra-Orthodox Jewish leaders not to wear their traditional fur-ringed hats. Stop vilifying people and telling people what to do when you know nothing of their culture and especially when you wear fake fur.

Done.

I want the vacation schedule of Nick and Vanessa. It feels like that's all they do is take trips.

Wow, Nicole does look good in that pic.

Reader #1, your kids are beautiful!

Reader #2, was Sam Ronson as creepy looking IRL as she is in your photo? And where did you meet up?

I think Tom Cruise carries Suri to hide the fact that she's almost as tall as he is.

lanasyogamama said...

I also don't understand when this became an anti-fur website. I don't have any fur, but that's not what I come here for.

Love the SamRo pic! Reader 2, tell us more!

Rumer forgot her pants.

Reese is unbothered by her movie tanking. Why shouldn't she be, she still got paid.

I can't believe Suri lets them pick her up like that!

I'm with you, Karmen.

I respect people's right to not like or wear fur, but just because someone feels differently, doesn't make it okay for everyone to jump down their throat. Same goes for religion. I may not believe what you believe, and that's okay, but please don't preach to me or try to convert me.

Personally, I think our differences and different take on things is what makes life so interesting. How boring life would be if we all marched to the same drummer.

there are a lot of animal people on this blog and occasionally el posts animal related stories.
the fur industry is beyond cruel and to have a lot of the "exotic" type furs that many love-there is illegal poaching of wildlife disrupting the food chain and essentially robbing the ecosystem of value (as well as future generations that might want to see these organisms alive).
but if you want to wear your coat Karmen and this is a higher priority (which seems to be the case), then why state that you dont care.

Karmen said...

When I said I don't care, I meant that I'm not going to jump down your throats for your beliefs. If you are an animal rights activist, I support that. I like hearing what other people have to say - even if I disagree with them. We all come from different backgrounds, and it's a shame that our beliefs get in the way of our judgments. What I don't support is vilifying people just because I disagree with them. It's easy to make an argument by attacking the person and throwing insults at them for their personal beliefs, but that's not what I'm about. However, I am going to call Pamela out on that because she's a hypocrite.

surfer said...

delilah - I think it was more a case of Karmen was saying she didn't care what people thought of her wearing fur, more than anything else.

If it's okay for people to express their anti-fur opinions, then isn't only fair that others should be able express their pro-fur stance?

I think Nicole Kidman almost always looks pretty, but sometimes there is just an overwhelming creepiness about her. This picture however, is free of the creepy vibe. I guess you can leave the Scientology marriage, but it never leaves you.

aww, hi readers! (eeek, ronson is scary).

if paps continually followed my family and constantly aimed a camera at my little girl, i too would carry her at all times and not allow her feet to touch the ground. you've been around paps...you know how aggressive and scary they can be...now picture a child in the thick of it.

I'm not a radical animal rights person by any means, but the fur issue isn't like a question of whether you like chocolate or vanilla, or are a Democrat or Republican, it's closer to whether you think beating your girlfriend is okay or not. People in the future are going to look back on us and think we were barbarians. Hopefully.

Rumer, it is fucking freezing out. Put some damn pants on. Though her legs are pretty much the only part of her I can look at without wanting to vomit.

@Karmen - if you want to wear fur, fine, I'm not going to throw red paint on you. It just tells me you're cool with animals being skinned alive or being anally electrocuted so as to keep that fur perfectly intact for your coat. Do what you're gonna do - I don't have to respect it.

I'm an animal rights person, and I don't believe in fake fur because I personally believe that people can't often tell the difference and fake promotes real. Further, a lot of "fake fur" is actually real cat and dog fur from China that is mislabeled because it's cheaper to manufacture and easier to export. I don't like Pam's coat because I think it's trashy, but at least it's clearly not real.

@jbdean - can you find me that article? I've met Pam and she is a real advocate for animals. I'd be shocked if that were true.

@Reader #2 - want to hear the story about Sam Ronson! Is she as miserable as she looks here and in every other picture? ;)

i dont know about the hypocrisy BUT if she is one then she needs to be outed.
totally agree with RQ: promoting even fake fur (unfortunately i have witnessed a dog being skinned in China-you all might think differently about fur when you see that happen in front of your eyes and hear the animal scream)-i could not do a thing about it.
the fact is we (in our modern society) DONT have to wear fur but choose so b/c we feel better than other living things.

@delilah - this is the crux of the problem. People don't know how fur is "harvested" and ignorance is bliss. They don't know about leghold traps and animals that eat their limbs off to escape. Or anal electrocution prods or animals that are still alive after being skinned. It's horrific and so unnecessary in this age and time.

Susan said...

Karmen, I agree with your entire post. Although, I don't hate Pam Anderson.

The anti-fur stuff on this blog always has me scratching my head. But pro-vegetarian and anti-fur lectures annoy the shit out of me. There, I said it.

And, plus I just don't give an eff if you rock fur or not. This does not cause me any outrage. Personally, I would never wear a fur coat because I have mad allergies. But, I have rocked a faux leopard print coat all in the name of fashion. If that's wrong, I don't want to be right.

RocketQueen said...

And by the way, Pam won't have to complain about Jewish religious leaders for very long, as Israel is poised to be the second nation to ban the harvesting/manufacture of fur entirely after Norway beat them to the punch last week. Kudos to both nations. Compassion will eventually win the day.

My faux furs are so faux a five year old could tell it's faux. I'm tacky that way.

The Mum got screamed at in NYC while wearing a coat with a faux fur collar and was called a "Jew bitch" and I walked away thinking we're not Jewish.

"What I don't support is vilifying people just because I disagree with them."

To "vilify" something means that you find it inherently evil. I find the Westboro Baptist Church to be more than a little evil. I think stoning a woman to death because she falls in love with a man who doesn't fit within the constraints of her faith to be an evil act. I'll vilify the SHIT out of those things, thanks. AND, I ALSO think that skinning animals while they're alive and/or anally electrocuting them just to fulfill the whims of some carcassmongering cunt falls on the side of evil -- so, Karmen, I'm gonna vilify you alllllll I want.

Fur isn't illegal. I know it's a sartorial choice. It's a gaudy, grotesque, fucked-up sartorial choice, but a choice nonetheless. If you choose to wear fur, it just proves to me that you're a narcissistic asshat who's hellbent on proving to the world how much you prize luxury items over the comfort of sentient creatures. So...congratulations?

I'm sure all of you bitches who love fur also have purebred purse dogs who are way behind on their vaccinations, too.

Just don't be shocked when people hurl insults or objects at you. I don't ever go that route, personally, but I certainly understand the ire that inspires people who do.

Murphy Brown 2020 said...

"lol" indeed, surfer. I should amend that statement: I don't hurl objects. Jail would suck.

And I only hurl insults when the subject of my disdain is practically BEGGING for it.

Seriously, though -- what the fuck is the POINT of even stating something like "I think wearing fur is fine" if you DON'T expect a flurry of angry responses?

Pam wouldn't necessarily be a hypocrite for using anti-aging goop made from cow placenta--after all, the placenta is a natural by-product of any mammal giving birth, and nothing has to die or be harmed to obtain it. (There are plenty of vegetarians out there who make an except for eating human placenta, which is supposedly a lot like liver; you can find all sorts of recipes out there if you want to do such a thing. Not that I would, mind you, but supposedly it's a decent source of nutrition, and plenty of animals eat theirs while cleaning up after giving birth.)

As for fur, leather, etc.: I'm still an omnivore who eats cows & pigs, and has eaten goat & deer in the past, so I figure if you're willing to eat it, you can wear it, and at least the rest of the animal doesn't go to waste; hence my willingness to wear leather. Fur's another matter, though--while in times past people wore furs for warmth because it was what was available (and frequently the rest of the animal was eaten or put to another use), we have other options. At the same time, I have friends who have vintage furs from family members, and I don't have any problem w/that; since the animal in question has been dead for many years, perhaps it honors their spirit more to wear it than to throw it away?... (A dear friend has a sealskin coat her late mom got in the 1930s, FWIW, but she wouldn't buy or wear new fur.) Although I understand the argument that wearing fake fur promotes wearing the real thing, I see it as a more humane alternative, and hey, leopard fake fur is a cheesy-but-fun fashion classic at this point, and no one in their right mind would ever mistake it for an actual leopard skin. No new fur, though: we're not aboriginal peoples who need it to stay warm; the animals used in the current-day fur industry are treated horrendously from the time they're born/captured until they're killed; and while it's one thing to eat an animal and obtain nourishment from it, it's another to kill it cruelly only for its skin. And no, I wouldn't throw paint at you for wearing real fur (for all I know, it could be vintage), but if I know it's new real fur, then I have to admit it will tend to lower my opinion of you considerably.

Now here's an idea if anyone wants to make fur less fashionable: Furs for the Homeless. No, I'm not kidding--round up donated fur coats, etc., and give them out to homeless street people. It'll keep them warm, and you know damn well that once people get used to seeing the mouthwash drinker sleeping over a heating grate wearing a Blackgama mink, it certainly won't be much of a status symbol anymore. Just MHO...

lanasyogamama - you must not be hanging out here enough. Almost everyone writes periodically about their belief and passions on this board. That's one of the reasons I come here. Lots of different, mature folks who engage in (for the most part) healthy debates.

Could someone post the link to the breastfeeding versus bottle convo from last year? Farmgirl stumbled upon it late and was sorry she missed the opportunity to jump in with her two cents. It was a passionate, spirited and hilarious thread. Made me love this place more, not less.

Sometimes we comment on the gossip. Sometimes we don't. Welcome to CDAN.

BTW, does anyone else think Sam Ronson has ET fingers?

Ms., I've been here a long time, over 2 years, but it just seems somewhat recent that Enty points out every time a celeb wears fur, then lots of ppl post about what a asshat that celeb is. I guess I'm just a little bored of that particular debate. I'll live.

Derreck said...

well, Pam supports PETA and if she was wearing fur, then she would be a huge hypocrite. i think that is what Enty was just getting at. I don't detect any bias/agendas being pushed on me.

I see what you're saying, LYM. Enty definitely is posting more anti-fur comments lately. It backs up my suspicion that the reason he's posting a bit less lately is because he's busy spending time with future ex-wife #7, and maybe she's anti-fur. ;)

I find real fur rather disturbing but I believe fake fur is about compromise and not all bad. When I think of fur for some reason I always remember being in junior high and a friend brought in a purse that her aunt in Australia had sent--and it was made from kangaroo fur. KANGAROO?? I was 12 and I hadn't thought much about fur/animal rights at that point but I remember thinking, "This is so wrong!"

@ Robin TMP - I *LOVE* your Fur for the Homeless idea!

__-__=__ said...

I'm not giving up my zebra print shirt. I'm not giving up my leopard print velvet tights. I'll still wear my leopard print velvet skirt too! Mango, somebody down there probably ate the kangaroo and the purse was made from the remains. Remember when McDonalds was found to be importing kangaroo for their burgers? My tiger print dress - I'm not giving that up either. That one is Betsy Johnson! Am I really supposed to think that any of this is made from cats and dogs? Could I really be that stoopid? If future ex-wife #7 is anti-fur then how will all the bacon eating go over? And, yes, Sam Ronson does have ET fingers! Pam Anderson can do what she wants. She's been through enough!

Murphy Brown 2020 said...

It's interesting that kangaroos were brought up, since I was avidly against meat consumption until I actually saw a group of aborigines kill a 'roo while studying abroad in Australia. I thought it would sicken me, but the whole experience was very unbloody, respectful, and relatively humane. I cannot convey the skill they used, and how quickly they finished the job. It wasn't some glory kill -- these men were hungry, and that was all. They speared it, flayed it, and roasted its meat over a fire. They passed the tail around and let each take a bite, but I declined. I heard it was gamey, though. And oily.

ANYway, I *guess* I don't have a problem with a kangaroo purse, as long as the animal died quickly and its flesh was consumed, too. Do people eat minks, foxes, beavers, ermines, leopards, etc? Hell to the NO. And until people DO begin eating flank of mink or whatever, the argument that wearing fur is ethically similar to eating meat is absolutely idiotic and unfounded.

You know, there are all KINDS of grey areas in the world. Meat consumption is one of them. I truly feel that human beings can make responsible and ethical dietary choices that involve animal flesh, but most people simply don't care and don't want to consider what happens in factory farms.

The thing that bugs me about some people that are anti-fur, is how they feel about other animals. I once was talking to a girl who was anti-fur but she had the sticky tape trap for rats and mice(where the rat or mice gets stuck to the tape and starves to death). When I asked her why that was okay she said "It's different they're nasty".

mooshki said...

Eh, I'm of two minds about mink. Those animals are nasty little assholes. ;)
