Ryan Murphy Is An Angry Man
I know this is a weird thing to say, but I think Glee only has another season or so left to it. The hype is gone and I don't think people are as breathless about it as they once were. Of course Fox does not have a lot of other shows on offer, so they will probably stick with it as long as they can and drive it into the ground. Deep. At this point it is kind of like High School Musical meets Week 12 of American Idol when they have to sing songs no one has ever heard of before.
Anyway, Ryan Murphy, the creator of Glee, takes it personally when bands or singers decide to not give permission for their songs to be used on the show. You know what? Maybe some bands don't want their songs on the show. I don't think it is a big deal for a band or singer to say no, but Ryan will cuss you out and call you dirty. Case in point. Kings Of Leon turned down Ryan last year and Ryan is still ticked.
He told The Hollywood Reporter, "F*** you, Kings of Leon. They’re self-centered a**holes, and they missed the big picture." Why? Just because they did not give permission? What? Ryan says that any band that turns him down is trashing on arts education because what this is all about is making kids want to get involved in music. While that might be an ulterior motive, I don't see Ryan shying away from taking the mongo amount of bucks that are being thrown his way because bands and singers are licensing their music for the show.
Kings Of Leon don;t get it either and wonder why Ryan has so much hate.

Well, the characters are presumably going to have to graduate at some point, so I wouldn't think the central cast will be around too long.
And this guy needs to get over himself. Not everyone loves or even likes that show.
For someone who uses his show to make anti-bullying statements, Ryan Murphy is a fucking bully. I'm no Kings of Leon apologist, but they are allowed to say now.
This reminds me of the time years ago when Jonathan Franzen didn't want his book The Corrections on Oprah's book list and Oprah blew a fucking gasket.

That said, my is that it's going to be milked for 4 seasons and not just 3. Like Heroes or Ugly Betty, the same huge start, and success until people start noticing that it's all fluff and no substance.
All three shows also have in common leads that manage to alienate the audiences by acting entitled just because they are in a show that opens big (Ferrara, Panattiere, Michele).
That is why I don't watch Opa and Glee.
The creator sounds like a spoil brat just like Opa.
Before Glee came to be "GLEE!", I heard Murphy doing promotion on NPR's Fresh Air. He was a total pain in the ass. Typical type who comes up with a decent workable/sellable idea and genuinely seems to believe it makes him some kind of genius. I can see that it's a lovable concept but honestly - hasn't he basically just "added edge" to High School Musical, with less original music (more guaranteed to sell)? I mean fine, I am glad people enjoy his show (I've never watched), but he was just way to far into overestimating his own important & brilliance, even then before it blew up. It killed my interest in his show immediately. Nothing against the show itself, but this doesn't surprise me at all. Weirdo.
Is making little kids get into the arts is somewhat laughable to me. At least the 7 year olds he mentions...my 7yo goes nowhere near Glee.
Little Miss has a good point about the bullying.
You know, I loved Glee first season. Fresh, great music, cute stories - the episode about religion was incredibly brave. But as time has gone on, there are too many cameos around which they're clearly forcing the story to fit, and it seems like each character is fighting to get a song in each episode, and it seems forced. What a shame. Too much, too soon for this little show that could.
i don't get people like him. they can't see beyond their anger, so really, anything anyone says will be heard thru a selective filter and (much like a few of us here, come to think of it). regardless of what i may think of KOL, it's their music, and their right to say yay or nay. good for them for standing their ground, whatever their reasons.
Murphy is a b*tchy little queen. Get over yourself. I don't particularly like KoL but they don't have to bow down to you.
Ugly Betty was a very good show until ABC started screwing with the schedule. I hated to see it go.
I don't watch Glee, but I think Mr. Murphy sounds like a crybaby who needs his bankie and a nap.
It's their music. Let them decide where it's heard.
I'm a GLEEK. I love the show. The episodes with GOOP, the wedding and BULLYING with the Darren Criss intro were splendid. You bitchy hags should insert one suppository, open yourself up and really watch the art it took to put together any of those three episodes. Then come back here and bitch some more. Okay,sweet thang
I love Glee, and Popular was one of my favorite shows of all time, but this guy is nuts.

Murphy needs to get over it and himself. Here's a thought, Ry, go find some indie bands/performers who could use the exposure and then you get bragging rights for breaking them.

I adore Glee but I hadn't thought of Ryan Murphy as being a bully against KOL until someone posted it here. But it's pretty apropos.
And to the poster above me, yes, great episodes you mentioned but people have the right to express their opinions of dislike of a show, regardless of awards and popularity.

The only time I watched this show was when it was a part of an episode of The Office.

Didn't someone from the writers' table at Nip/Tuck just premiere a film about a character who transparently Ryan Murphy?
He sounds as insufferable as Lea Michele. He has said this current cast has one season left and then they graduate and a new cast will replace them.
I love Glee too. I think their episodes this season, especially the story line about Kurt and him being bullied in school, were just spectacular and I wish more teenagers would watch it and realize that people with different sexualities should not have to be afraid or ashamed.
That said, this guy seems really full of himself.
Ryan Murphy really needs to take a step back. He may in fact be trying to promote arts education but he's also making major bucks off this show and all the products that have come from it. If an artist/band doesn't want their music performed on the show then he should respect that and move on. This reminds me of the public trashing he did of Bryan Adams for not allowing his music to be used and Bryan Adams had to come out and say he'd never been personally approached and that RM needed to lay off. What an egotist.
I'm not much of a KofL fan but this makes me respect them. Not to mention Slash after his comments about the show.
Part of the charm of SEason 1 was the fact that most singers/bands didn't want to be associated with the show, so the show had to be creative. Then the show sorta 'sold out' to me. I loved how they had to utilize unknown songs into their play list. Now it's celebs just hawking their latest projects like any other show.
I love Glee but agree it has jumped the shark this season and if it doesn't rein it in, it's going to be done for sooner rather than later. (granted, I say that and Ghost Whisperer is still on the air so what the hell do I know?) The story lines are SO twisted just to fit the stunt casting, it's pathetic. LOVED it the first season when it was about the KIDS, not the cameos. And Ryan Murphy is and always has been an entitled bitch.
I love the show, and yes they have been "educational" on the gay and bullying subjects, and with gender stereotypes, imo. I do feel however that it has become a star publicity machine which I do not like, and quite frankly I like the idea of promoting unknowns in the music field instead of giving publicity to known bands as suggested on an earlier post. Also, if KoL said no it is their prerogative, and it sounds like Ryan Murphy is on his way to ruining the show and the messages it teaches.
People. People. People. This season and last season's second half has had some incredible episodes by a variety of directors. Check the credit and watch once more. I just watched once more the wedding episode. The first scene with some cheerleaders carrying the enormous trophy sideways to me, totally fascist/communist overtones. The creative team are bringing in some great ideas. When was there ever a realistic gay teenage romance on episodic television. And with general acceptance by society? Murphy bitched that a couple of groups didn't want to join in the fun in comparison to so many others. The GOOP/Holly Holiday episode? When she does Mary Lincoln. Hello? Not funny?
Aly, it's not so much the quality of the show that's at issue here. It's Ryan Murphy's repeated bullying of artists to allow their music to be used on his show. He will ruin the show if he isn't careful. Too many celebrity appearances will tank it, just like it tanked Will & Grace.
As for a realistic gay teen romance, I would point you towards the Willow/Tara relationship on Buffy many years ago.
I loved Glee last season but it's off this season. Less music this year. And the focus on Kurt doesn't draw me in -- I like some of his story lines, but it just seems like this ensemble show is too focused on Kurt. Hope TPTB can find last season's magic again.
Yes I'm a fan of Glee, I went to one of the live shows last year, but Ryan needs to step back and reign in his massive ego. This show has had problems since the 'back nine' last year and the unevenness has continued this year. Plot and character have gone out the window so that Ryan can use this show as a vehicle to suck up to his favorite stars and heal his old wounds by making Kurt so sanctimonious.
Enough of the celebrity cameos that don't fit, and enough of the cheerleaders wearing their outfits every damn day. And don't you dare lecture the rest of us about bullying and acceptance when your own creator/director behaves the way he does.

I think that you're on the mark on that one. I haven't watched the show because I was busy first season and then they started all the stunt casting and I was turned off. I've caught a few numbers here and there, but I'm not much into stories.
And @ little Miss ... You are so right about the bullying. His comments are inexcusable.
I totally agree with von...I've had plenty of love for Slash since I was like 11, but now I am rethinking my vague eyerolling feelings about Kings of Leon. My estimation of them has gone up, oddly.
I'm not a huge KOL fan (I like one of their songs), but it's their right to give rights to any of their songs to anyone they choose. There are thousands of artists out there. Move on, Ryan Murphy. Sheesh!
Luckily I'm posting this under my pseudonym (because it if got out, I would be reported to Gay Central and my privileges would be yanked), but I've never seen Glee. It just doesn't look interesting to me. I like everything on Bravo, I have all of Barbra's albums, but Glee? Maybe I stay away from it because I only heard of it in blind after blind about spoiled, rude, druggy C-listers.

I can see both sides, honestly. Some people think KOL have already sold out. Murphy needs to work on his communication skills b/c now he just sounds like a jack-ass.
I like most musicals, but I HATED High School Musical. I thought it was excruciatingly bad.
People worried about the hillbilly band's feelings can take heart in the band's response: "Dear Ryan Murphy, let it go. See a therapist, get a manicure, buy a new bra. Zip your lip and focus on educating 7yr olds how to say fuck." Pretty smart boys, those Kings.
