Eating A Pizza A Day Saves Your Life

Forget about that whole eat an apple a day to keep the doctor away. The only apples I eat are swathed in pie or cobblers. That counts doesn't it? Oh, and turnovers. Apple martinis. Can't forget that. Anyway, I am losing track here and getting very hungry. Never before though has there ever been research that indicates that if you eat a large pizza everyday that you will live longer. Well, there is now research saying just that. Kind of. Ok, not really, but someone who eats a large Domino's pizza everyday did get their life saved by their delivery person.

For the past three years, an 82 year old woman who must have the largest appetite of any 82 year old woman has ordered a large thin crust pepperoni pizza and two diet cokes. So, when the woman had not called in three days, her regular delivery got worried and went over to the woman's house. No one answered the door when the driver knocked so she called 911. Paramedics and police found the woman alive, but on the floor.

So, the point of all this, besides the happy ending is to make sure you get a pizza everyday. I would say two, but I only do that when there is some kind of special.

Speaking of which, even though there are always these ads for low cost pizzas from chains, doesn't it always seem like your pizza bill is the same as it was five years ago?

I eat pizza at LEAST five times a week and have since junior high. Breakfast, lunch, or dinner. What's more versatile than pizza, really?

It's a perfect meal! You can simultaneously combine many food groups in an aesthetically pleasing and delicious way, and you don't need utensils or a plate. <3

Enty, this post is awesome. It does, indeed, have a happy ending, and I'm sure that pizza is a topic dear to all our hearts.

Pizza is a food group all unto itself.

Susan the delivery driver is a wonderful woman for doing this and probably saved this elderly customers life. Some elderly people cannot cook, so this is probably a Domino's version of Meals on Wheels for a couple of meals for this woman. Except she has to pay, I am not sure if you have to for MOW.

MOW is free to those receiving the food. churches and other organizations cover the overhead to provide the meals. however, MOW is not available in every area.

Me, too, amote! Okay, well at least once a week. And for anyone who likes to make their own pizza at home, this is my current fave: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Black-Bean-Spinach-Pizza/Detail.aspx

I heard this on the radio this morning, glad to see you posted it. In my case, it would probably be the guy at the bodega down the street where I buy wine who would notice me missing...

Thanks for posting this, Enty. Great story.

Their thin-crust pizzas are delicious, but I can finish one off too quickly. The regular/hand-tossed ones last a little longer.

I finally learned to make my own pizza dough so now I can make a couple of pizzas and have plenty for my freezer. Less time invested than waiting for a pizza delivery.

Domino's isn't really cheap either....wasn't that really expensive??.

I know it falls under the "decent human being" category but seriously, high five for that driver. That was really nice of them to check on her.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE pizza but I don't know if I could eat it every day. Especially the same kind.

For me, pizza has increased in price. At least from college days.

I ate pizza at least 5 nights a week my first year in college, because the cafeteria food was inedible, and you could get a medium pie delivered to the dorm for $4. It was probably a decade before I could stand to eat it again. (Or microwave popcorn.)

After a series of surgeries, I was, well, scary thin, thinner than the average weight of people Liberated from Belsen, in fact.
I ate twin medium thin crust double cheese pizzas twice a day (four pizzas total) for six months in an effort to gain weight. The guys always had it ready for me less than five minutes after the order, and I always felt better they knew to expect it, I was alone and felt better. We take life in stride, but think about the people we say hi to on the bus or who are always in line at Timothy's Coffee with us... I love the little threads of life, they are stronger than they appear!
