Angelina Jolie Being Sued Over New Movie

At the current pace, Angelina Jolie might want to rethink directing movies. While she was shooting the movie, her permits were pulled and several governments were upset at her for the subject matter of In The Land Of Blood And Honey which deal with a love affair between a Muslim woman and a Serbian soldier. Now, the author of an article written back in 2007 is suing Jolie and the production company because he says that his article was the basis of the film and he has not been paid. The two do sound identical. According to Radar, here is a synopsis of the argument in the case.

"The Subject Work’s main female character is subject to continuous abuse and rape by soldiers and officers in the camp. In addition to being raped continuously by soldiers and officers, she is forced to become a servant at the camp headquarters, a duty assumed by very few of the captives. The Motion Picture’s main female character is also subject to continuous rape by soldiers and officers in the camp and subsequently becomes a servant at camp headquarters."

Sounds pretty similar to me and I would not put it past Angelina Jolie to steal an idea. She did steal a husband. Twice. Well, one husband and one living together with another woman, guy.

The trope of the raped and abused female war victim who then forms a personal relationship with an officer while imprisoned has appeared in countless books and movies. These are not the kind of specific details that can win anyone a copyright infringement lawsuit.

Whatever happens I haveta say
In The Land Of Blood and Honey is the best fucking movie title I've seen in a long time.

If 1/10th of it lives up to this title's promise than I will go see it.

When the movie fails to do well, she'll criticize the world for not being intelligent enough to handle her movie when the reality is no one wants to pay $10 to be depressed out of their minds in a movie theatre. That was her argument for Pearl (or whatever the movie was called) and that'll be it here. She's too pretentious and powerful for her own good.

oh yeah, I also agree with Cardamoms- this premise has been used many times before, if the most this person has to say is what Enty just showed us than his case isnt going anywhere.

What exactly is the romance plot? She denied that it would be a woman captured & raped falling in love with one of the soldiers who harmed her but that is what it sounds like.

MISCH said...

On 60 Minutes it sounded like the couple knew each other before the war and had some sort of relationship...
Whenever The Jolie as Lainey calls her speaks she has her head so far up her own ass I tune her out.
I figure she has a good 5 years left and then she'll go the way of all the "great Beauties"...
Five long years of Jolie bullshit...well at least I don't have to live with her.

That plot sounds ridiculous. What possibilites are there to make the audience being able to feel sympathetic towards both protagonists? The only way would be that this soldier magically never happened to have raped or murdered anyone so that the woman wouldn't be despised by the audience to have fallen in love with a monster. Since nobody would believe such a plot I highly doubt that this would be what people are going to see.
I get the feeling that this movie will be a total disaster.

Also, what's with those juvenile remarks all the time about Angelina being a husband stealer?

Linnea said...

Yeah, what the heck? She didnt STEAL anybody. Brad was married, she wasn't.

Rose said...

It's most likely because she has a history of dating attached men, like Billy Bob. She married him while his live in girlfriend, Laura Dern, was out of town.

I think the odds of this movie not turning out to be grossly exploitative are slim.

Hmm, I'm interested to see the movie to see how she does as a director, actually. I find her kind of hit/miss with movies. She's either really good or REALLY bad.

Who would ever see a movie about these events???? Not me!

As far as Jolie "stealing" men goes, the last time I check men were animate, living creatures with the ability to make their own decisions. Televisions, iPads, cars, stereos, etc. . . are things that can be stolen. Husbands and wives are not stolen. They cheat. Freely and of their own free will.

The hate that Enty has for AJ is kind of toxic, sheesh. Personally I don't waste energy and time on hating, especially a stranger who has absolutely no power over me!

As others have said, there's really no new idea under the sun. How many times has a war book, movie, etc had a plot around women being raped and abused, and then taken to be a house servant? Hey, wasn't that what happened in Sophie's Choice, except for the rape? The guy who wrote the article should be sued!

Doesn't sound like a case to me, unless there are other details.

The U.N. needs to fire her ass as a face representing them.

The Serbian rape camps for the genocide of Bosnian Muslims is pretty specifically damn unique in moden times for the politics of what was happening and the notions and the players involved (there also were Nobel Peace Prize nominee women heroes at issue who Angie is just shit-smearing everywhere). God is she disgusting, an ignorant entitled ass who has no clue how fucked up she is.

She's already saying she doesn't think it will be that commercially successful because it will be subtitled.

Can you direct a movie when the actors are speaking another language?

Amy, I am reading that line out loud and laughing. "The UN needs to fire her ass as a face." But even as a Jolie hater (my credentials are impeccable), I don't know. The usefulness of a movie star isn't that they lead good lives, but that they can guarantee press when you have an event. I dislike Jolie immensely, but when she shows up at a press event, there are tons of reporters and the story often makes the news.

This rape narrative and the plagiarism accusations should help people to stop looking at her as a saint, though. I'm hoping. I know it won't, however -- her fans are loyal.

@Jasmine-actually the title makes me wince when I read/hear it. It sound artsy fartsy and contrived, although Jolie would claim it sounds "dark" (her favorite adjective).

Murphy Brown 2020 said...

Breaking News: EL is sexist.

And the whole premise of this movie sounds abhorrent.

Murphy Brown 2020 said...

Oh, and I agree with Mango's last comment. The title of this movie is supposed to sound vaguely biblical, I guess, which fits nicely with Jolie's opinion of herself.

i'm more interested in what enty means by "living together with another woman, guy". He is referencing billy bob/laura dern, but was there a third party in that relationship? or is that just enty bad writing skills?

Henriette said...

The whole idea has been done, and is beyond depressing. Jolie comes off as so stiff, pretentious, and joyless in her interviews. Wonder if she would ever do a comedy.

the trailer for the movie looks pretty damn good.

if she did steal the storyline, did she think that no one would notice?

I know that she does alot of good for refugees, etc., but it seems that she always has ulterior motives and that she would walk over who ever she needed to to get where she wants. e.g. jennifer aniston.

As someone with a great love & respect for history, I am more than upset at her for this film. If you want to make a war film on this type of subject matter, make it fictitious. Don't make a movie about a real war and then distort it for entertainment. I'm sorry, but it just irks me to no end when I see people like Robert Redford make movies about Mary Surratt, and yet I can find more than 70 very inaccurate points in it...and they are parts that completely retell the story to where it is unrecognizable from the truth. You end up with thousands of people walking out of a theater thinking they understand a piece of history, when in reality they know nothing.

One minute AJ is presenting it as historical, then next minute as a love story. What about r*pe is loving? I'm sorry, I just think this film is 100 types of wrong. Real history is actually quite entertaining; Hollywood is just too lazy to look beyond the surface, so they make up crap to fit whatever story they want to tell. And I really feel for the people that lived through this war; no way can AJ have respect for these people when even the trailer glamorizes it all.

It's just my opinion...I'm just getting sick & tired of all the wonderful stories waiting to be told, but instead ones like this get produced.

wow, someone stealing an idea in the entertainment industry. i can't believe it. so shocking.

The whole idea of a movie being made about a couple who cant be together. OMG, and cheating spouses in Hollywood? NEVER. They are beyond reproach just like politicians.

I won't be wasting my time or money on a rape movie. I'll be listening to opinions of others after they see it. It will help me to weed out the strange in my life.

Wow - a lot of people have an opinion about a film they haven't seen yet. /eyeroll

Angie believes The Saint (herself) can do no wrong. Thus she can steal and commit plagiarism and no one should dare to call her on it.

It is only the haters that deserve no acknowledgement as they are nobodies and unworthy of The Saint.

Her and Brad will take the kids out in public and that will get rid of all the bad press as people gaze in awe at the holy children.
