Jodie Foster's Dad Guilty Of Grand Theft
Yesterday a jury found Jodie Foster's dad, Lucius, guilty on 21 counts of grand theft and another 9 counts of operating without a contractor's license. He faces 25 years in jail when he is sentenced later today. Jodie's father is 89 years old and was convicted because he promised to build people houses for just $85,000 but never actually built them after taking their money. After finding him guilty yesterday Lucius, who was his own attorney said he still wanted to help people get their dream homes and that he would keep building them and then give people their money back. Umm, that is basically how you ended up where you did. So, if someone is 89 years old, how long do you sentence them to jail? Do you go ahead and pretend they are not 89 and that if you do the crime you do the time? Although he does not talk to Jodie anymore, he did name drop her when selling people on using his contracting services.

I think when you're almost 90, you should just be given house arrest. Sentencing a 90 year old to 25 years is just laughable.
If an 89 year old might be going to jail for 25 years for stealing money, albeit cheating people probably out of their life savings, a child rapist like Sandusky MUST go to jail for life without probation, no ifs and buts about it. And should not be allowed bail, at all!
Sad how you get caught at your weakest point. How to convict a grandpa, living his last years or maybe months? Isn't there a way to get all the money back with interest? he did say that he will pay everyone back... But justice must be faced, same as for everyone.
I say sentence him like he is not 89. As our population lives longer this is something we will see more often. We have to learn to deal with it.

I also agree with Rita. Certain crimes are definitely more heinous than others. It's sad how our legal system often treats financial crimes with more severity than ones involving sexual abuse.
If he does get the 25 years and doesn't get time off for good behavior, he'll be 114 when he's paroled, probably not likely to re-offend.

Do the California prisons have space for criminals in this situation? Not at all from what I've heard.

Sentence him like he is not 89. Build more prisons in CA. It's just that easy.
He wasn't acting 89 when he was stealing these people's money. Throw him in jail and sentence him like they would anyone else.

So Lucius (first white man I've ever seen with that name) Foster doesn't talk to his daughter, but name drops her to prospective clients? Hmm. Jodie's not had the best press the past few years, screaming at that kid in the parking lot for taking her picture and sticking up for Melly G. This family seems well adjusted.
Weird. I was watching "Taxi Driver" last night and wiki'd Jodie. Sounds like she was an "oops!" baby after her folks separated and she had little to do with him, ever. Also sounds like her brother is a jerk, too.
I guess since it is LA they will give him a sentence that won't actually be served for any length of time. So in the end, I guess the while deal is moot.
I think too many people go to prison. IMO, only people who are a danger to others should be put in prison. We have enough prisons in the U.S., and the population is unfairly skewed, because many of our laws are outright racist. For instance, you get MUCH more time selling crack than you do selling cocaine. Very few upscale people caught with cocaine end up in jail.
First of all, if someone offers you a deal that sounds too good to be true, it probably is. I'm not trying to excuse what Jodie Foster's dad did, but people really need to stop being so gullible when it comes to handing over large amounts of money to someone before they do the research.
I agree with the person who wrote that it seems the punishment is worse if it involves money then if it involves a sexual assault.
