Gwyneth Paltrow Cooks Again

The Goopster went onto television to cook again. This is the second or third time I have watched her cook and everytime it is either chicken alone or chicken and dumplings. It is like she is confident in this one dish and has memorized it to the point where she can make it and chat at the same time and not have to think about it. She was on a program with Mario Batali who probably is the one who gave her the recipe. Hell, he probably gave her every recipe in her new cookbook. Do you really in your heart think The Goopster made every dish in her new cookbook? She was being her usual annoying self on the show. She told the audience she does not diet and eats whatever she wants and then works out 90 minutes a day to make up for it.

I made this a separate paragraph because this is where she is so f**king misleading and really makes me way to angry for a Saturday morning. She might not "diet," but she eats way less food than the rest of us and to her, macrobiotic and all that is not dieting. Think about eating only say 1000 calories and working out 90 minutes a day. What do you think is going to happen to you? You are going to look like a stick aka an Olsen twin or The Goopster.

I wonder if she is really as insufferable as I imagine her to be.

she is natuarlly thin and add on top to her "non diet diet" and luxury to work out as long at s she wants all day long. Results in a body type that is not realistic for 90% of women. But yet Goop acts like you can do it too if you really "try hard".

Ridiculous.

Wow!!! She taught her kids how to say "No thank you" after they've tried something once. What a fucking genius! I'm so glad the audience gave her a round of applause for that. She is such a groundbreaking mom.

Twat.

Ha ha! I actually don't even mind Goop. I think she's hilarious. You know, her pretentious demeanor has actually given her more career longevity. More power to her.

However, she should just cut the shit and admit that she hardly ever eats, irrigates the ol' colon every month or so, and sweats through about four hours of Ashtanga yoga each day. And AS IF she eats DUMPLINGS.

I remember reading an interview with Gwen Stefani where she said that she never, ever eats and has to work her ass off for her body. It made me really sad for her, but at least she was HONEST about it.

You should see her on the Graham Norton show... She brings out what she calls homemade "paella" (For the record, it looks nothing like paella) for Graham and the other guests (Geoffrey Rush and someone I can't remember) and serves it to them. They all take one bite and immediately change the subject. It's fabulous.

they actually have a term for that: anorexia athletica. for serious.

She doesn't bother me either. I find her hilarious.
BTW, that dish looked to die for! Must try!

nope not gonna watch it.

90 min. workout + 1,000 calories? Wouldn't you be emaciated?

Swear I just read that if GP didn't name her blog "Goop" it would have been "spoiledwhiterichgirl" or something like that - is it true? I'm laughing with her, I'm guessing she knows how pretentious she's being.
She has to, right?

Em, who knows if she has a sense of humor? I'm thinking no, she's just an irrating twit.

I agree with you @time bob. She was blessed with good genes and money. What really irritates me is that she seems to look down on the little people. If you don't look like her and dress like her, then honey, you're not trying hard enough and you're not worth wasting her time on. I'm always surprised by her friendship with Mario. Maybe he's a project for her.

I have to admit I was a little smitten with her chicken and dumplings. Never met a dumpling I didn't love. I'm holding out hope that the rubenesque body type will come back into fashion soon, 'cause I'll be a f$@ken super model.

So all those cleanses she does every couple of months aren't considered "diets"? Mmkay.

WOW- could the audience BE more up her ass!?

It's not always her I mind necessarily but the overwhelming bullshit that I am assuming she insists upon, I dont know. It's like those people in life who for no real reason everybody fucking LOVES and as such the person has no real concept of shit.

I have wanted to beat her up since Ryan whatshisname from Glee said that he's consulted her with his scripts and music selection, because she's GWYNETHPALTROW. yack.

For once, I just wish she'd get a reality check.

I didn't watch the video all the way through (can't stand Gwyneth or Mario or The Chew),so forgive me if they address this, but doesn't she do that macrobiotic diet? How do chicken and dumplings fit with that?

timebob said...

@Alex she said after she got pregnant she gave it up. But she only adopted it she said in a bid to get her dad to eat better after he was diagnosed with cancer. Good nutrition is very important when it comes to cancer. But with her who knows what is the truth or not.

If you watch the Chew regularly, Mario tends to be super condescending at times, so I'm thinking their personalities mesh pretty well.

Also isn't Mario a well-known ass kisser of stars? I know there was at least one ex-employee who said it got pretty insufferable at times (I seem to remember a story that R.E.M. came in after closing and Mario made all the staff stay and make them whatever they wanted. They were there for several hours, left without paying or tipping and Mario didn't even thank the staff for staying). I used to love him, but after the stories I've read, I'm not a huge fan anymore of him personally. I do really respect him as a chef though.

I did meet his Dad at his restaurant (Salumi) in Seattle once. He was brash, but hilarious.

Oh she eats, and then she throws up.....
As for Mario, well he's Mario...

You know that old ad, "Everything tastes better when it sits on a Ritz?" Every woman looks better when she has a Brad Pittz. I liked Gwyneth better when she was with Pitt. Even Anniston gained fame with her Pitts hookup. Jolie was a blood vial wearing weirdo before Pitts, and now she's almost respectable to those of us who don't know better. Everything does indeed taste better when it sits on a Pittz.

I recently saw GOOP on an SNL from the late 90s and she didn't seem so stuck up. Was she hiding it or what happened?

Goopy has always been totally up her own ass. I remember way back in the day, like 1996, I was reading Seventeen or YM or whatever and they asked a bunch of celebrites "What was your most embarrassing moment?" And while all the other celebs told stories about falling down in public or farting on a date or whatnot, Goopy's story was about how her parents wouldn't let her act in a local play as a teenager even though she was *immediately* hired for the part on the *first* audition because she was *so* talented. Puke! I think that was the first time I realized how insufferable she was, and she seems to only have gotten worse with time.

And Enty, good point about how she only cooks chicken, because she recently did a cooking column for "Cosmo" mag and her dish was, surprise surprise, chicken. That probably IS the only thing she can cook.

Meg: The version of the R.E.M. tale that I heard was that it involved Stipe & several of his friends; he really really wanted blueberry waffles, they didn't have any blueberries in the house, and some poor soul had to run out to get them. The part about not tipping/tipping badly was the same, though, which was why the staff there (and apparently at a number of other NYC establishments, started referring to Stipe as "Twatwaffle" behind his back. (It strikes me as odd, considering that when I was in GA he was one of those people who'd always remind folks from the stage to tip the bartenders; perhaps he behaves differently when he's away from home? No matter what, it ALWAYS pays to be nice to the "little people," because they DO remember and WILL tell tales on your...not to mention, it's just plain good karma. :-) )

As for Gwynnie & her 1 or 2 recipes, don't most people have a couple of recipes they can pretty much depend on & bang out at a moment's notice? I don't know if she really is as much of a pain in the ass as most people say, but I'll cut her some slack on that one bit...but ONLY that one.

@timebob. Thanks, I didn't realize she had quit the diet. If she did it for her dad I can't be too mad, though she always came off as a condescending shrew when talking about it. The wierd thing for me about Paltrow is that I actually like her in movies (and her one tv appearance). She's a damn good actress because I always forget how much of an insufferable ass she comes across as in real life.

I actually thought she wasn't a bad singer either. But if you only have the capabilty to make one protein you certainly aren't writing a cookbook. Someone else is doing that for you. Laying claim to it is quite deceitful. While she comes across as pretentious as hell a lot of people rave about what a nice person she is. Of course they are all celebs so take that for what you will.

I work at a bookstore.
I have flipped through this book, all set to thoroughly hate it.

For what it is worth, in the foreword, she credits (and thanks) the woman who developed all the recipes. They are photographed together.

This woman, though she makes me laugh, and I do enjoy her when she opens her mouth, is full of it. There was a BV not too long ago, about an actress who preaches health and health food, etc...and yet has osteo, because her body isn't getting the proper vitamins, because she's really a bulimic. That's really how she stays thin.

It also would make sense. She was diagnosed with Osteo in her mid 30's and if you look at her, she never looks healthy. She looks drawn and her once gorgeous hair, is broken, drab and unhealthy looking.

When I read this article about orthorexia, it reminded me of Gwynneth: http://www.time.com/time/health/article/0,8599,1963297,00.html

(It also kind of reminded me of Zooey Deschanel, but she doesn't annoy me nearly as much, and had allergy issues which contributed to her situation.)

The other thing I noticed in this video is how the other hosts remarked on her "knife work". I've noticed this on other shows, too. Is this the new trendy thing in food -- the ability to cut food? Seriously? I know uniform cuts are key to getting evenly cooked food, but in this case (and the others I've seen), remarking on knife work seems to be a way to avoid talking about the quality of the food itself. It's like saying, "Your food stinks, but at least it looks symmetrical."
