Jennifer Hudson's Ex Brother-In-Law Convicted Of Murder

A jury in Chicago found William Balfour guilty of three counts of murder yesterday after deliberating for about 18 hours. The jury found him guilty of the deaths of Jennifer's mother, brother, and nephew. Balfour is expected to be sentenced to life in prison. In a statement, Jennifer and her sister said, "It is our prayer that the Lord will forgive Mr. Balfour of these heinous acts and bring his heart into repentance someday." That is pretty forgiving. If he killed my family I don't think I would be quite as forgiving. I don't think I would forgive him at all.

Forgiveness is for the forgiver, not the forgiven.

the statement didn't say SHE forgave him! It says she hopes GOD forgives him. huge difference. Lol

I find it kind of funny that the picture with this post has her wearing prison orange.

hollywood dime, can there really be any 'lol's' when we are talking about the fact her mother, sister and nephew were murdered?

yes, everyone gets that in her statement she didn't say that she forgave him. but, seriously, show some respect. the fact that she is still able to function and that she had to testify against him at the trial show that she is an amazingly strong woman.

I think it sucks that they took 18 hours to find him guilty.

I was thinking the same thing about the orange attire. Her outfit looks just like what the prisoners wear when they pick the trash off the streets here.

@anita, came to say the same thing. You think Enty did that on purpose?

Yeah what was up with the 18 hours? The jury was divided and then when they got records of cell calls they immediately went guilty.

Jury duty is a funny thing. Most of the time it does work - jurors really become in sync with "innocent before proved guilty. "

Still I think this was an open and shut case. Glad justice is served. Heinous.

Not gonna give H'wd any shit but I can tell you that having to testify against the person who committed a crime to you is incredibly stressfull. Having to do it when it's a murder and also a former family member must have been excruciating. My heart goes out to her and her nephew left behind. Their lives will never be the same.

no where in my statement did I say anything disrespectful about the situation or the tragedy that she and her family are going through. My lol was to bring levity to MY realization that she never said she forgave him. so please save your sanctamonious snark and attacks. and enjoy your Saturday.

She was the first one to testify and then stayed in court for the whole time. She was there for the all the pictures. It had to be horrible for her and her sister and her boyfriend who was there the whole time to support her sister and herself. Reports said they cryed and David yelled "Yes". My heart goes out to her and her sister and boyfriend. Now does she get to address the court before the sentencing. It's called "The family impact statement". I believe she has a lot of strength of character to get thur this, it must be the worst thing to happen to anyone. It's what people have nightmares about. Much love to her and her sister. May God hold them in his arms and warm there souls.

I simply cannot imagine the pain Jennifer and her family feels. She gets a lot of credit from me (not that she cares what I think) for sticking it through the trial. I am pretty sure I couldn't be that strong.

On a superficial note, I am kinda glad JH hasen't been using this tragedy to boost her career or get sympathy. At least I don't think she has since I haven't seen interviews with her in the past 3 years.

Great observation anita_mark! She even LOOKS mean here - total opposite of her usual look!

Good Job Chicago jury! Hope Jennifer and her sister can get a little peace knowing this monster is locked away.

This proves--as if I didn't know--that Jennifer Hudson is one of the classiest, most real dames in the business. God bless her and her family.

Jennifer has handled herself as well as anyone could have given the circumstances. Classy lady.

too bad Illinois doesn't have the death penalty. Instead he's going to cost the state millions until he dies.

It's my understanding that the catalyst was he reacted with jealous revenge over flowers the sister had received. And the flowers were sent by Jennifer. How incredibly sad is that?

Who cares about this one hit wonder?

anita_mark said...

@Brakewater, it costs more when they get the death penalty what with endless appeals and such.

This is true.

The pain that families feel is not always helped by the guilty being put to death. That could very well be true for Jennifer Hudson, judging by her statement. And there were good solid reasons for Illinois to get rid of the death penalty (not least of all because they convicted the wrong people more than once. Like, at least 13 times, and almost certainly there were more than that over the years.)

Oh, and as frufra said "Forgiveness is for the forgiver, not the forgiven" and the statement makes me very hopeful that JH and her sister are healing as well as can ever be expected in the case of tragedies such as these. A very positive sign. I wish them all the best.

I don't know if I could be that forgiving, either.

I thought it was a pretty clear cut case, so I'm surprised it took them that long to decide?
