Giovanni Ribisi Dated Agyness Denn For Six Weeks

Giovanni Ribisi had been with Cat Power for almost two years. About six weeks ago they broke up. So, it confuses me how Giovanni told a reporter that he and Agyness had been dating for awhile. I know the whole Scientology thing is to make a clean break and never look back. I guess Giovanni did just that, but six weeks? That's fast. It is really fast considering that you are just getting out of a long term relationship for the person you end up marrying. I wonder what Giovanni's 14 year old daughter thinks about all of it. Here she is getting to know someone for two years and then wham, dad goes and marries someone that he knows for six weeks. I guess it will be ok for her to do the same thing too when she is 18, or 16 if she moves to England and becomes a gypsy.

is it cynical to say "doomed"? I didn't think so....

Actually, this kind of stuff happens all the time. I know people who've been dating for a decade then one of them just dumps the other and goes off to marry someone else. Time has nothing to do with it. Usually someone in the long standing couple is frustrated and just looking for an out.

I give it six months thats when the honeymoon period is over. Then you wake up and say what the fuck did I do?

I'm a mom and I've been divorced for 9 years. My kids have met two people that I've dated in that time. Dating as a single parent is tough because it's like your kids are having to form and break these bonds too.
I'm not judging, every person has their own walk, but that sounds like it could be hurtful to the kid.

The Don Draper rebound wedding model?

I will say this about the newlyweds, I am very glad that I haven't married everyone I was very happy with after 6 weeks together.

Boy I'll bet Cat is feeling very stung right now.

Six weeks. It takes me that long to be able to order for a guy at Subway. But to know in that period of time I want to marry him - that's just assinine. (Don't know if that's really a word, but hell, it's the freakin weekend.)

Just because they broke up 6 weeks ago doesn't mean they didn't make new friends prior to the breakup.
Didn't Johnny Depp just break up with someone the other day? Weird, because he seems to have been dating for months now!

Statistically speaking, this doesn't look promising, but he probably had wanted out of the relationship w/Chan for some time, whether or not she knew that, and yes, the "Don Draper Rebound Wedding" (thanks, ghost!) is a fairly common phenomenon. What usually happens is that the partner who bails has been telling their original partner for years that they don't want to get married, don't believe in it, etc. etc. etc., break up w/that person, and then marry someone else w/indecent speed; what it says loud and clear is "I don't want to be married to YOU." Of course, hindsight is always 20/20, but I hope Chan comes out of this better off in the long run. As for the newlyweds, good luck, kids, and may you surprise us all by being happy together for the rest of your lives and rocking away on the front porch watching your grandchildren play...

I thought they broke up eight months ago... who knows.

My ex-husband and I had dated, then broken up. He began seeing a woman, practically lived with her, for three years. They broke up and we reconnected (bumped into each other) maybe a month later. Four months after that he proposed. Dudes DO that kind of thing!

(and in this case, not too smart, we weren't married for long.)

has anyone here ever seen pictures of this girls NYC apartment??? The girl is LOADED. And to hear he's a Scientologist, and she, desperate to make it big on the big screen, sounds like a business deal was made to me.

This! I've been divorced six years and my kids have met one guy! The guy I'm dating now was a good friend..we met at my coffee shop where he became a regular.. So both of my kids know him as a good friend and we aren't romantic in front of them. Kids get attached very easily. When I was 13/14 I thought my dads gf was the most beautiful lady in the world. When they broke up I was traumatized. Marrying someone so quickly when you have a young woman you need to be a role model to.. Can be tricky I'm sure.. BUT if there's lots of love and communication then . Meh.. The kids will be all right.

With that smile, I'm not surprised he gets the girls. He looks like a tender kind of guy.

But yeah, six weeks? My husband and I dated for five years before getting hitched (though he did ask me after six months :) )

I saw him recently on Chelsea Lately and he was really giggly and strange and not too far removed from Frank Buffay.

@Bitch Next Door: She's a British model.

It could work out.

I'm in the minority here, but I've always had a thing for him.. Is he an awful person or something? And, I'm guess I'm out of the loop.. Are they married? For real? I hadn't even heard..Sheesh.

My husband proposed after 10 days together, and we married shortly thereafter. We have now been together 31 years this summer.

That said, if I'd had kids at the time (didn't, was barely out of high school), no way would I have married. Your life is not solely your own, to live as you would were you childless, once you have children. So, from that perspective, I think he was irresponsible.

Congrats - - I love when people defy the odds :)

She's a model. She was one of those it girls or next big thing girls for a while. She has a thing for oddball dudes, cause James Franco got all up in there for a while.
Or do I refer to him as The Artist now? Ha

Was she lured to the Celebrity Centre and he was chosen to be her husband to keep her in the cult?

He's a real oddball. The fact that he's a Scientologist unfortunately makes it questionable.
It's a really odd pairing and I wouldn't be surprised if there was something more going on here.
I wish them good luck - i think they are going to need it :(
