Hughleys Star Faces Life In Jail For Murder

Dee Jay Daniels was a sweet and adorable looking kid when he starred on the show The Hughleys. For the last ten months though he has been in a Stockton, California jail cell awaiting trial for gang activity and murder. He is being held without bail for the stabbing death of a man outside a bar. He has been charged with a litany of crimes related to the stabbing and also had outstanding warrants for pot possession and driving without a license.

I'm trying to think of another child star who faced life in jail, but am coming up short. I know he was in and out of acting, but apparently he just gave it up.

I never heard of this person, but I went to university in Stockton. Loved the area around the campus but the town itself was pretty rough.

Never saw the show the Hughley's. How long ago did it air?

The Hughley's was around for 3-4 seasons, I know it switched networks, but I used to watch it as a kid. I can't believe he went from a kid actor to thug...his last film credit was in SKY HIGH (2005) for Disney. I guess he had something to prove.

Tut, Enty! The news reports are sketchy but apparently the kid has been charged with 1st degree murder involving one or two aggravating circumstances. This is a potential death penalty case. And it's in a jurisdiction that is pretty tough on gang crime.

If not a death penalty case, if he's got even one prior, unrelated felony conviction anywhere in the US, he could be going away for life without parole under Three Strikes.

So did Sam Shepard.

It's a little shocking to wander into what seems like a blue-collar Central Valley exurb and realize that the burg is as bad as Brownsville circa '88.
