Eve, I find Jolie's claims of saving the world the most offensive thing about her. It is pure PR to recreate her image. They keep as much money as they "donate" from those pics. There have been rumors that the babies she adopted were done via under the table payments and stories all about that but not enough room here to go into. Sorry, her posing in third world countries while holding her Louis Vuitton is not impressive. Many celebrities donate time and money without sending out a press release. Her rewritten reputation is one of the most repugnant things about her IMO and as calculated as any wartime general.

Plenty of narcissists get involved in charities because it makes them look good. I throw Flubber Lips into that same camp. There are plenty of celebrities who offer their time and money without looking for accolades. I'm coming to this discussion late, but I want to say I agree that Angelina Jolie does do good. I have dedicated the last 16 years of my life working in the world of refugee resettlement (before that I was in the entertainment industry). I know a lot of people who work in the camps overseas. Yes, Angie does good. She pays all of her own expenses and those of everyone who travels with her (not an entourage, usually family or people with a specialty needed on the trip--medical, etc.). She does actual work when she's in the camps. Most of the work she does in the field is not photographed or done in front of any camera. Going into the camps and spending time there is nasty, dirty, work. Few celebrities will even venture into that realm (Mia Farrow spends a tremendous amount of time working with UNHCR, as does George Clooney). They do good work. You may not like them as people, but they really are doing good work. UNHCR oversees operations to assist nearly ten million people a year on a budget smaller than the annual budget of the New York City department of sanitation. UNHCR is not corrupt. They need all the celebrity exposure they can get. Most goodwill ambassadors serve for no more than a year and then bail out. Angie has been at it since 2001, and has spent months out of each year working for the cause (and actually working with UNHCR, not just taking pictures). I know people around the world working with refugees, including many who are onsite in places like Darfur and the Kenya-Somalia border. They have only good things to say about Ms. Jolie. Believe me, they have no time to or interest in sucking up to posers.

I prefer to see the good she does and applaud her than make up bullshit.

I'm glad to see your post May. I know those conditions can't be good. I also can't believe AJ continues to do this. I don't think I could. It's hard to see so many people suffer up close and personal. I feel AJ is doing good for altruistic reasons.
Agent there are heaps of websites, I just grabbed one of the many. Google for yourself, but I find it easier to believe she is altruistic, than to think that all of these reputable world wide charities would lie on her behalf and say she gave when she didn't. No one travels the world going to the awful places she does 'just for the publicity'

@astro, it's not about her, it's about money, "philanthropy" in the 21st century and how it is driven by publicity and for personal gain when it comes to the celebrity part of it. I am very familiar with the UN and the subject of alleged charity. I choose to believe what I have seen and reviewed. It's the phoniness of it that repulses me in her case:)
