Your Turn

A few websites reported yesterday that Chris Evans has an STD. A fully treatable STD. I know I make fun of Paris Hilton's STD, but do you think those kinds of things should be private or should they be reported on too? Who was Chris Evans sleeping with that gave him an STD? Hello condoms.

That's private.

I generally prefer not to hear gossip about health-related issues. Selfish misbehaviour, yes. Grandiose self-delusion, yes. Cheating and screwing, both gay and straight, yes. Health should be private unless a celebrity makes it otherwise.

Yes, private! And, I supposed, just as someone can get pregnant using birth control, someone can get an STD using condoms? I'm not a medical expert, but just seems to me that it can happen.

I guess his shield wasn't working.

Definitely private.

A few weeks ago it was reported that there's a new strain of gonnorhea that's antibiotic-resistant. Not a fan, but wish him well. Everyone deserves privacy, especially medical privacy.

LMAO!

Poor guy, I would hate to have the world know my biz, this info should be kept out of the tabloids.

Private!!
My ex-best friend once dated a guy who worked for a non-profit going to clubs at night and handing out free condoms and pamphlets and shit. She caught gonorrhea from him.

Private unless he's knowingly not using protection and infecting others. Then he should be outed.

seaward said...

And yeah I know I'm a hypocrite for saying it should be private then sharing that story. Don't care. It's funny and she's a bitch.

luckylass said...

Well there are laws mandating medical confidentiality in the US. There are some exceptions, even with STDs. But, I think given the treatable nature of his STD it should be private.

NapAssasin said...

I'm not so sure. Why does he have more than one STD? Doesn't take much to figure out what kind of after school activities he participates in. If you have 4 communicable diseases that could potentially kill you or your partner , you've had many partners to get to that point? How about the fact that others never get an STD? If you're going to be the town bike, expect a lot of seat changes.

Like SusanB said, unless the person is KNOWINGLY spreading the plague it should remain private.

Agree with SusanB and Mango.

And IIRC, there ARE STDs that one can pick up that just require, um, close contact and not necessarily intercourse. Again, IIRC, some strains of HPV come to mind.

AKM said...

(Meaning that to answer nunaurbiz's question, yes, STDs can get picked up even with condoms.)

Private. STDs happen, it sucks a bit and you move on. Definitely private.

Landy said...

Someone I know who is in the industry and knows a lot of info informed me that the STD rumors about Evans are 100% false. Take that as you will, I guess.

To answer the question, I would say private too.

Comma Chaser said...

Private, definitely.

Herpes can be so easy to transmit and not even with intercourse. You don't even have to have sores. Have a cold sore, give a blow job - may transmit it that way too.

Oh and HPV! Yup you can get that in the throat too.

I teach Microbiology to nursing students and it is AWESOME to freak them out with horrific pictures and the truth about microbes. I love my job.

@ luckylass- COnfidentiality legally applies to one's medical practitioner; if you tell someone else, they are under no restraints

Ugh, isn'enter answer fairly obvious? Unless someone is purposely spreading diseases by not being careful, truthful and taking care of themselves this information is on a need to know basis not a curious want to know b/c it's out there on the Internet basis.

A person's medical information should be private. It is no one else's business, unless you are going around knowingly doing something to hurt other people. If a person chooses to share their details of a condition or disease or whatever, that choice is THEIRS. It isn't right to attempt to shame someone by publicly detailing their private medical history. (As much as it pains me to say it, even Paris Hilton being outed like that was wrong.)

@ luckylass - you could be my DIL's favorite teacher. She is an RN (with sons). Microbiology was one of her best subjects. She uses that knowledge by giving lectures to my GKids when she thinks their hormones are about to take over... working well, so far !.

Glad you enjoy your work.

I think it's good to know if you're going to have sex with this person. Other than that...

luckylass said...

0_0 thanks for clarifying my statement. The point I was trying to make is that if this info was leaked by a pharmacy, hospital, or clinic it would be illegal. But, yes, a "friend" or partner, not so much.

MISCH said...

What they said was that this is his 4th in a short time period and he won't use a condom.
While I too believe it's private whoever has sex with him is crazy.

Agent**It said...

I think under federal health care it will be a mandatory disclosure (with mandatory testing). Otherwise, you will have to be $$ for private ins.

luckylass said...

Thanks Agent**It. Its awesome that your gkids can learn about their bodies and what can happen to them if their not responsible. Good person to have in the family!

@FSP - Hee Hee

STDs should be handled like any other piece of medical information & stay private. We have to hope that he or anyone else would disclose this information to a partner though.

car54 said...

I have no idea who Chris Evans is--I'll have to google--but I'm sorry about the STD...and it's none of my business.

Hope he handles himself responsibly and doesn't pass it on to anyone else.

TV Junkie said...

This should absolutely be private.

I saw the reports on this and I'd like to know where it was definitively said that he had an STD. People said there were BIs which many guessed were about him and they ASSUMED he had an STD. Now Enty reports it as a fact that he has an STD. I used to enjoy reading BIs as a guilty pleasure, but "entertainment" reporting is getting out of hand and its disgraceful how blatantly crap is just being made up about people.

This should be private but if they are knowingly infected with something incurable and not disclosing to their partners, then it shouldn't be private at all!

When it comes to HPV and herpes I find it appalling how many people think condoms protect against it. Sex Ed in schools needs to stress to kids they are not safe even if making the wise choice to use condoms. Sadly, many of them aren't making the smart choice there either. As I've told my daughters, pregnancy is the least of your worries in this day and age if you choose to be dumb about sex. So far, virgins.

lostathome said...

Ok, so like 20 of my sexual fantasies are ruined now since he was the star of them. Next you're going to tell me Garrett Hedlund and Josh Hutcherson have one too. Yeck.

But in all seriousness, celeb or not, that is completely private. If I had an STD, I wouldn't want anyone to know (unless it's a future sex partner), he should given the same respect. He's still a regular man at the end of the day

Bit dams said...

shouted from the rood tops! if this person doesn't have enough sense to use a condom, and has an STD; everybody needs to be warned.

That shield joke killed me. I think that is prívate but what a lesson to learn he is not the first celebrity to get one and wont be the last.

There are people in this world that are responsible about telling their partners about their disease, and then there are people who are too concerned with slating their own hedonistic lustings that they can't be bothered to remember a silly little thing like ruining another person's life with their careless selfishness. Shit happens. STD's can be an incredibly mentally debilitating thing and not everyone who has them got them because they were a slut. That is just a foolish stereotype that showcases the sheer ineptitude of anyone who believes it.

Leave the man alone and if you have to judge him, do so by his talents and not his misfortunes.

Newsflash: almost all of us sexually active people over age 20 have HPV. Men rarely know they carry it and unknowingly (or knowingly) pass it on to women with or without a condom. This story is non news since most people reading it also have HPV. I think anything in the bedroom is absolutely off limits private unless it comes from the persons mouth.

Sunny: Hellz yes! If I wasn't married, you know I would be responding to that ad to MAKE OUT with a Microbio- Snuggle bear loving gangsta.
