The Goopster Only Sells Clothes For The Skinny

Apparently in Gwyneth Paltrow's world, you don't exist if you are above a size 8. In fact, she would prefer if there are such people that you don't read her site unless you are there to buy one of her cleanses and keep at it until you are a size 8. In case you are a size 8 or below, The Goopster would like to sell you the t-shirt shown above. You are probably thinking that you don't have an extra $20 or $30 to spend on a t-shirt. Well, if you don't have $20, then this is not the shirt for you because you are going to need $90. Plus shipping. Yes. $90 for a plain white t-shirt. Again though, I must remind you. The shirt will only fit you if you are under a size 8. The Goopster doesn't want anyone above a size 8 wearing any of her clothes because then you might think she is above a size 8 and her head explodes at the thought of that.

lol, it's a free country. She can offer for sale whatever she wants and no one is forced to buy it. I think the hating on Gwyneth train is getting tedious.

Fuck off Goop. Just because your husband only publicly displays affection to you once a decade doesn't excuse your bitch ass behavior. 90 dollars for a white t shirt?? I hope you get punched in the face!!

Honestly, even if it were twenty dollars, I would not buy her shirt. What if someone complimented me on it or asked where I got it? I'd actually be pretty embarrassed to be like, "Thank you. It's GOOP."

Amber said...

In her defense, the t-shirt is actually by Kain which is a pretty expensive brand that does "basic" knits. Their tshirts and tanks feel magical on the skin.

I don't see anything wrong with her selecting things that she loves and thinks feel amazing, and letting others in on it.

Here's the link to the shirt http://www.goop.com/shop/featured/goop-tee.html

I am contantly seeing plain, white t-shirts for sale in magazines for outrageous amounts of money, and I just don't get it. You can go to Target and get a 3-pack from Hanes that look exactly the same for something like $15. Just goes to show that money can't buy taste or common sense.

Also, I hate Goopy. Pretentious, stupid bitch.

Amber said...

Also, as with a lot of "luxury" tshirt brands, they are "one size".

Amber said...

P.S. I shop. A lot.

nolachickee said...

If I buy a shirt from her, will she be able to leave me alone after the sale? Will I get emails and texts from her, following up to see if I really, really like the shirt? Will she stay in touch to see if I'm ok and like to buy more? Will she follow me on Twitter to check in and send me sweet messages? Purchasing a shirt from this needy twat may mean years of torture from her. So I'll pass.

The Black Cat said...

Nolachickee, she may even pack her bags and pay you an unexpected visit LOL

Auntliddy - that about sums it all up doesn't it?

Texshan - agree, why throw good money away. It's just a status symbol kind of thing to make an insecure person feel better about themselves IMO.

Lux Luthor said...

LMAO @ Ingrid and Nolachickee! I think that was my favorite reveal. Totally believe it, too.

CanadianMiss said...

Jesus. 2 weeks ago I bought 4 pairs of pants and 4 shirts all on sale. I felt a little guilty that the total was $85! I couldn't imagine $90 on one freakin shirt. Who are these people who read her site?

Sylvia said...

LOL @ clingy.

Just like the wearer LOL

Ms Cool said...

Hate.

Amber said...

Why does a person that spends more than $7.99 on a 3 pack of t-shirts have to be insecure? I will gladly spend $40 on a "plain" 100% cotton t-shirt that has a really great weave and is pre-shrunk, so it fits the way it fits and feels super soft. It's my prerogative to spend what you believe is throwing money away, but it hardly makes me insecure.

RenoBlondee said...

Oh Fishsticks! You so funny.

Jolene Jolene said...

There are a lot of things to get irritated and stabby about in the gossip world, and the fact that some pretentious twat is selling overpriced t-shirts is definitely not one of them. This is a "meh" topic.

Jolene Jolene said...

And I'm with Amber. A fashion lover who chooses to spend her well earned money on clothes (me) instead of cars, gadgets, home goods does not an insecure person make. GIVE ME A FUCKING BREAK.

nolachickee said...

@Amber and @Jolene Jolene - did you see the reveal about the Goopster? That's what is being referenced here. Go back and read it and tell me this beyoch isn't insecure. My comments have nothing to do about people's shopping habits.

ForSure said...

Yeah they all feel great until the first time you wash them. Tide and Snuggle are the great equalizers.

Her parents seem like such cool people, how did Goop turn out so weird?

Shallow Gal said...

Well I have to say these Old Navy and Target t-shirts get holey after a few wearings and if I could afford a super nice T, I'd probably have 50 of them. I'm sick of cheap clothes falling apart.

Jolene Jolene said...

@nolachickee--I get what you said. Totally. Black Cat said this:

"agree, why throw good money away. It's just a status symbol kind of thing to make an insecure person feel better about themselves IMO."

That's what I was referring to. It's just a silly assumption.

WBotW said...

Lol, I find it funny that a bunch of chicks who have nothing better to do than hate on Gwyneth frickin Paltrow (of whom I am not a fan) are calling her and others insecure for being willing to actually spend money on decent clothing. Yes, I recognise that it flies in the face of genuine white trashiness to shop somewhere other than Wal Mart or Target, but not all of us are meant to enjoy such good ol' boy cheap living. Oh, wait a sec, are we hating her today because she isn't endorsing clothing for fat people? Pfft, whatever. Not like there aren't a zillion stores that sell t-shirts for big people.

Amber said...

@FS - I wash my clothes in cold water and hang dry, and they still feel great.

And yes I saw the reveal about the Goopster - it's quite comical, and sad really.

AKM said...

I'm kind of tired of all the GP hate, too. Hoping she gets punched in the face?! Seriously?! Wow.

Ms Cool said...

Hey WBotW - there are not a zillion stores that sell t-shirts for big people and they certainly don't make decent ones. Even Gwyneth says so:

http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/story?id=102887&page=1#.T_cb7o59GC0

"The clothes they make for women that are overweight are horrible. I felt humiliated because people were really dismissive."

NomNom83 said...

The shirt is co-branded and high-end, so neither the price tag nor the sizing is much of a surprise. So far, it sounds like every other over-priced white tee I've ever seen in a Bloomingdale's or Nordstrom. They choose a finer cotton blend, add some cute detail and multiply the Macy's price by two or three.

It's not like Kain reps were in a meeting with her and said, "So we decided these will retail for $35 and go up to a size 14." and she responded, "Absolutely not! I don't want poor fatties wearing anything with my name on it! Raise the price, and limit them to size 8!" I imagine that for ninety bucks, they (retail pros) already know who their target customers are and what size they wear.

I guess I have a hard time understanding why Paltrow gets under people's skin the way she does. Enty is definitely not alone in his strong dislike.

Jolene Jolene said...

I wouldn't buy this tee because $90 is a lot for something I think doesn't look THAT great. However, last month I was on the hunt for the perfect oversized white tee, and the winner is James Perse Scoop Neck Cotton Tee. It's divine, and it was $50. Do I regret spending that much on a T-shirt? Not for a second. If I could find the same quality in a $3 tee from Target I'd pick up 10 in a heartbeat. But I have the Hanes cotton 3 packs that I workout in, and they're scratchy and the shape sucks (I don't like boxy). So there it is.

MISCH said...

The blind item reveals the other day take the edge off of articles like this - those were fun and unexpected. She can do what she wants. GOOP will be GOOP, and obviously there's a market for her style of living. I'm too cheap to pay $90 for a t-shirt, but I don't shop at the anti-union/anti-gay WalMart or Target, either - last I remember, their clothes are like paper.

I do enjoy cheap and green living by shopping for designer clothes - at thrift stores.

Amber said...

@Jolene Jolene - I love James Perse. I'm actually kind of obsessed with Bobi tees, too. If you're in Mpls, we should go shopping. Hah.

@MadLyb - I wish I could shop at thrift stores, but one of my many "quirks" won't allow me to. I'm paranoid about germs and odor, and even if it's 100% totally fine I can't mentally get past it. I do hit up sites like Gilt & Rue Lala AMAP to get like 75% off on stuff.

Or canned cheese IS hell (maybe I'm just european here... )

I think it is stupid to give a child processed food like cup n'soup. Are you aware how much salt and unnatureal things are in there?

After a certain age you grow up and most of the time you don't like to be around drunk people. It maybe funny when you are 23 but in your 30ies and 40ies it becomes pathetic. Grow up.

I can image that as an actress with 29 she was aware the roles are starting to dry up....

And why is it such an accomplishment to buy cheap clothes that are rags after 5 times in the washing machine? I get if you can't pay for them and have no choice... but if you can have something better?

Well: it is easier to hate than just stay away... obviously.

Lori said...

I have no problem with the price of the shirt, just Goopy. If you can afford it and it looks nice, why not? I regularly spent $40+ on "plain" shirts. I am super large in the chesticle region (40DDD) and cheap shirts dont fit right, plus I like the fact that more expensive shirts feel lovely against my skin. It doesnt make me insecure to spend more money on items that fit well and are of higher quality. I wouldnt hate on people who buy cheaper items by inferring that they must have low self esteem and not think that they deserve better, so they buy a Hanes 3 pack and call it a day...

I like Gwyneth. I know she's rich. But she is so unhappy, I just feel sorry for her. If the blind reveal is true, she's incredibly needy, but married a guy who barely even acknowledges her.
Also, seeming 'self-absorbed' is the hallmark of an extremely insecure person, just as conspicuous luxury consumption can be. Constantly 'proving' you're good enough to others, any way you can.

I don't get all the hate, with all the evidence in our faces that she's very very sad. I just hope she stops pretending and gets therapy.

Cunty Goop should be ashamed to hustle Made in China, 10 cent labour per day T-shirts.

People hate her because she gives off a distinct impression that she thinks she's better than everyone else who's not as thin, successful or fabulous as she is, and that everyone SHOULD aspire to be those things, whether they're reasonably within grasp or not. (Whether or not she really believes that is not the point. That she consistently gives the world that impression, despite advice to the contrary, is.)

Have you ever been to Japan? Banana Republic stops at size 6.

I don't hate Gwyneth and right now, I really want to hang out with Amber and Jolene Jolene.

More often than not, designer clothing only goes as high as an 8 and more often than not, you get what you pay for. And I agree, buying expensive things doesn't make you insecure.

So basically, all this is is a Celebitchy type article that reads, "OMG, Gwyneth is such a bitch, her clothes go to an 8, don't you hate her??????"

And how is a blind reveal 100% the God's honest truth?

I like nice things. some items I will buy at Target, but some things are worth paying more for.
For example, while I wouldn't pay over $500 for a bag, I won't buy a cheapo that's going to fall apart in a month either. the one I carry the most is almost 5 years old. Same goes with jeans, watches, etc.
Anyway, my point is that not everyone pays more due to insecurity. I do know a few gals tho, that are brand whores and everything they own has a label you can't miss. that to me is insecure. I don't care whose name is on my stuff, as long as it fits and makes me feel good.

One might consider Paltrow's t-shirt available up to size 8 ironic if one remembers her "fat suit" photo session in Vanity Fair once upon a time while promoting Shallow Hal.

@Denise--I totally agree with you. People who flaunt labels nonstop (logo bags and sunglasses, etc.) are sad in my book. Those are people who shop for status and nothing more, and that's insecure. My style is mixing great cheap finds with high end items, and no one would be the wiser. I really don't care what people think I'm wearing. Labels and price tags really aren't why I love clothes. :)

@Debutante--Get it! It's awesome :) Got mine at Nordstrom. I love all James Perse. The style is super relaxed and easy, which I love in the summer. Super soft tees, clingy striped skirts that go with anything. Love the entire line this season especially.

Amber--I'm in Chicago but I'm there for a shopping trip. :)

My shopping friends--my absolute FAVORITE site is Shopbop and they're having a HUGE summer sale right now. I already grabbed 2 dresses and a jersey maxi skirt. :) Check it out if you're in for some summer shopping. I personally think some of their stuff is overpriced at regular price, so I always check out their sales they have mid season, and for the most part a lot is at a deep discount and not picked over. That's my shopping secret. You're welcome!

@just curious: FWIW, she's Jewish on her dad's side (which means that, according to Jewish tradition, she's not actually Jewish; it has to come through the maternal line), and I've never heard anyone remotely reliable suggest that she's at all racist. Snobbish? Sure. Racist? Nope. Whatever her character faults, that's apparently not one of them.

I admit she can aggravate the hell out of me, too, because she does come off as way too perfect and a tad smug about it, and when you're most decidedly NOT perfect, it can feel as if you're having your nose rubbed in your own lack of conventionally attractive looks/lack of money/etc. She may well not mean to come off that way (and I don't think she's an awful person), but somehow she does, and that is indeed what grates on people.

I do think that, to some degree, she's trapped in a certain image of herself that she feels compelled to keep up; I remember several years back she did an interview in Allure in which they asked her about one of the photos they showed her of herself a few weeks postpartum, when she was definitely heavier than normal (but still reasonably slender, and if anything, more attractive) and asked what she thought about it. Rationally, she knew she really didn't look bad in the picture, and there was nothing wrong with being at that weight, but she just couldn't get over feeling ugly while looking at it. When you think about it, that's really sad--she's certainly not the only actress who feels compelled to look a very particular way, but I'm guessing the blind is right, and she's even more insecure than your average actress. (Besides, considering how well she and our Patron Saint seem to bounce off each other in the Iron Man movies, I just can't hate on her too much...)

And yes, I definitely think spending more money for a quality product that you can get lots of use out of is better than buying a lot of cheap crap, unless, of course, all you can afford is the cheap crap. (Been there, doing that.) Perhaps a good rule of thumb is to get the best quality you can afford, especially for items that get a lot of wear; I think we can all agree on that one.

djphob said...

I'm not a fan of Gwyneth, but that T-shirt looks pretty luxe. Plenty of high end T-shirts go for that much, unfortunately, but I can usually find good bargains on labelled clothing at Marshall's, etc.

How is making clothes for smaller women any different than making clothes for plus size women. She can do whatever she wants. I have no problem with it. Do we ask artists to make art that everyone can afford? No. Who says when you produce a product you have to make it for everyone. You don't.

djphob said...

I really don't care about the high fashion industry being exclusionary or Gwynnie's shirt.

But @Olivia, there is a big difference. Most women in tge US are considered "plus" Aka a 12 or above. While things have improved over the last ten years or so, it can still be difficult to find plus (average) clothes. How many brands cover only "plus" versus don't? Are thin women complaining they can't find cute clothes in their sizes? I'm not saying everyone under a 14 can just find cute stuff but generally clothes aren't made to flatter a 14 or bigger and the ones that are aren't exactly filling the mall.

Again, I'm not saying Gucci needs to start a plus line. But comparing only offering under an 8 to making plus sizes only is a false equivalency.

djphob said...

Can't edit but maaaybe if you compared petites to plus it could work. Maybe.
