Lee DeWyze Gets Married

2010 American Idol Lee DeWyze got married yesterday to actress Jonna Walsh. I hope his marriage does better than his record sales. Lee had the worst debut ever on the music charts for an Idol winner. He also was the fastest Idol winner to get dropped from his record label. Lee says he has a new record coming out and he did write the song that Jonna walked down the aisle too. What I think many of the old AI winners should do is organize and do a Vegas show together. I think between them they can come up with enough hits and enough popularity to keep a show filled in Vegas. I always feel so bad for the the winners and top 10 or so from each season who keep trying to make it as musicians and knowing how tough it will be. At least if they join forces they would have a chance.

I don't think a vegas casino will want to host it.

they would do better touring the farm festival circuit.

I think that show creates a bunch of egomaniacs who think they're really special.

Didn't watch his season of Idol so I don't know much about him, but his wife is very pretty.

There are so many talent shows out there, very few people who are on them go on to do much. But even if they only sell a few thousand records to devoted fans, aren't they in a better position than they would have been otherwise? Can't feel too bad for them.

I think that's an excellent idea, Enty!
They are doing it with Dancing With The Stars, so why not AI?

I can't recall ever hearing of this person. I've only ever watched about 3 seasons of Idol, but I usually always know who the winner is because of the big publicity push they get. This guy was sure failed in that regard. Was that the Ellen season and Simon's last? If so, then that's where all the publicity and buzz went. It's become all about the judges. They need three, new, relatively unheard of judges to help put the focus back where it belongs, with the contestants.

And barring Vegas, there's always Branson.

I watched, and I liked Lee, nice guy. Hope he can find a good gig somewhere and he and his bride have a nice life.

This is an excellent idea. They wouldn't book the stadiums, but they could make a decent living (or additional income to their day jobs) touring smaller venues and cities headlining festivals and charity events. Many talented people have been on AI.

There is a show called Summer with the Stars that has Idol finalists and some other reality types. They do it in places like Cancun and Punta Cana bundled with a vacation package.

I'm sure the Idol producers don't want them competing with the recent season's tour in the U.S.

American Idol is funny because people get on there who can sing other people's songs...but it's hard to be commercially successful singing other people's songs due to the way the royalty rates are structured.

Most of the people in the top 10 can sing or perform really well - but that doesn't hack it today. How many record company people want to put out albums and albums of covers?

The thing is, people would buy them...it's just not a really macho thing to do. Music is about what's new, so they say.

If someone could figure out a way to monetize covers, the public would be all over it. I mean, some of the arrangements on AI (well, maybe 5-6 in the last decade) were really brilliant. But brilliance does not equal commercial viability.

Why not have a singing/variety segment on morning shows? That might work. Have one or three singers sing something every day. It'll give the show cast a bit of a break.

I watched the first couple of seasons of AI, but lost interest until somewhere toward the end of Season 7. Then Season 8 kicked ASS! But I haven't seen as much talent on the stage since then, unfortunately, so I tend to think the show peaked with the maximum talent that season.

However, there are still some that I think, given the right promotion, could be largely successful. Even their winners aren't promoted properly, in my opinion. They seem to just be forgotten about in preparation for the new "herd". They are thought of more along the lines of ratings for the show, I believe, than actual success for the artists. In other words, I believe AI plays with the dreams of these young people, getting their hopes up, but kind of just leaves them on their own after the show is done. The problem is most of them have no idea about what to do in the music industry, and the labels don't seem to be too inclined to help them, either. It would actually do better for both the artists and the show if they worried more about making that artist a success, because then people would take it more seriously.

The one thing that I absolutely love about AI is that you know these people can SING. More than half of the people in "entertainment", I would never pay to see a concert. Why? Because they can't sing live! They are so auto-tuned and over-produced in the studios, but cannot sound good in a "live" environment. And I go to concerts to hear them SING. In my honest opinion, these young people and their talents are being overlooked because 1. people don't take contestants from a show like AI seriously and 2. they are not receiving proper help to get their name/talent more widespread. And that's sad, because it's a waste of REAL talent.

I've never watched AI, but that is one of the weirdest photos I have ever seen. Even weirder, nobody is commenting on his head hair, his chin hair, or her drawn-on-with-a-Sharpie eyebrows.

Am I supposed to have heard of them?

They've been doing a show called "Finalists Live" at the Andy Williams Theater in Branson for awhile now.

Also, Taylor Hicks has a summer residency at Bally's in Las Vegas.
