Run-DMC Reuniting

The two surviving members of Run-DMC are finally reuniting. Reverend Run and DMC will be performing in Austin in November. This is something that should have happened a long time ago. At the same time I also worry if they will be able to sound anything like the original they were so long ago. What would make it better? Aerosmith to join them on stage for a little Walk This Way combination. Maybe get the surviving members of Beastie Boys up there with them. It would be like a Yo MTV Raps reunion.

Fun Fun Fun Fest!!! I'm so there!

Normally this would not be acceptable in my book, however, since both surviving members are the actual name of the group, it's alright I suppose.

RIP Jam Master Jay

This entire post and your idea of a Yo MTV Raps reunion sounds fucking magical.
I cannot breath because my throat is trying to absorb the unicorns, my little ponies, lite brites, glow worms and everything else amazing from my childhood that you've conjured up with this reunion talk.

Sigh.
Being a child of the late 80s/early 90s was THA SHIT. I pity all other decades because they didnt have the sweet sweet knowledge that Yo MTV raps brought to our young minds ;-))

Didn't they already try a comeback...a few times?

I remember DMC had some kind of vocal issues and he couldn't speak very well. Run was trying to start his own church and reality show.

Good for them, loved them when I was a kid they will make a fortune if they tour. Everybody loves nostalgia.

That would be sooo dope.

They should bring back Remote Control.

RIP, Ken Ober.

@ Vicki - Also: The State.

RIP, MTV.

Wha? Ken Ober is dead?

Dunno how I feel about this.

Ahh Remote Control - "I am Studboy!". Adam Sandler before he started annoying the crap out of me. Kari Wuhrer! Every fraternity boy's dream girl.

cheesegrater15 said...

He died in 2009. One of the few celebrities I actually shed a tear for.

Amber, I don't remember the State. I loved Liquid Television, though. And of course Beavis & Butthead. Are the new episodes like the original? Or is it like MTV, a plastic bastardization of an awesome original.

Also, Daria? I swear to god that was my life. I was Daria; my sister was Quinn, and her best friend was Jane. Their brothers even looked the same.

Liquid Television! I was obsessed with Aeon Flux. I watched a few of the new B&B eps and was entertained, but I kind of forgot it was on.

I'm not sure if The State is on Netflix or Hulu, but you should try to find it. It was super funny. (A number of the Reno 911 ppl were on it.)

Oh, also, remember Undressed? It was like a teen/college soap opera. Sososo cheesy it was awesome.

lazyday603 said...

MTV has a pretty decent series going now called Awkward. It's a HS soap centered around a less snarky version of the Ellen Page character from Juno. If you like teen romcoms you'll like it.

cheesegrater15 said...

I remember Undressed. It was too stupid.

isn't it ironic that aerosmith doesnt have the "surviving members" moniker as beasie boys and run dmc... for all the partying they did and the age difference

Loved Daria and Undressed. Awkward is a real funny show.

Between the news that Ken Ober is dead and the previous post about impactful moments, I feel sad now. Sad and old.

Did you see how many posters were in high school on 9/11? Sheesh. I'm going to go get in my rocker for a nice little nap.

You guys really didn't know he died two years ago? It was all over the news. Didn't mean to make you feel old. Here, have a Werther's Cocktail. :)

amh.producer said...

I didn't realize he'd died either. I LOVED Remote Control!

and yes, I feel old. I was in college during the OKC bombing and was a somewhat functioning adult during 9/11.

Frufra said...

amh - you're in OKC, correct? Isn't the Memorial just breathtaking? I went with my 7th grader on a field trip, and it really touched me. I highly recommend anyone passing through Oklahoma to take the time to visit.

Frufra said...

Vicki, if you only knew - my mother had quite the Werther's addiction going for a while. OMFG. Cracked a tooth on one and everything. Chomped through bags and bags of them.

"surviving member so Beastie Boys"

that still fucking hurts.
RIP MCA.

The new Beavis and Butthead eps are like, the best of the old ones, but new! I was very skeptical at first but really, I still can't believe how good the new season was. Some I watchted twice they were so good. It's the same type of humor targeted to us, the same audience yet they add in Jersey Shore. It's absolutely hysterical and I'm going to take it as a person attack if you don't watch and post in the next TomKat post OT: New Beavis and Butthead was AMAZEBALLS (no don't say "amazeballs" bc it's a stupid word that needs to be banned.

cheesegrater15 said...

LOL, Kats I'll do it just for you. "Amazeballs" sounds like something Cheryl/Carol would say.

"Ow! My earballs!"

She's such a crazy bitch. lol

The best cartoon on MTV in the 90s was The Maxx. It was simply superb.

amh.producer said...

Frufra, I am in OKC. I have a friend who's birthday is 4/19 and she refused to go to the bombing site EVER. She was back for a visit recently and we drove by it and she was just mesmerized. It truly is a reverent memorial. I had the opportunity to produce and edit a video for them and filming it (in the museum) was so powerful that I couldn't keep from crying. (shameless self-promotion http://www.am.com/#/home/VideoModule/459)

amh.producer said...

Oh and for all of Charles Barkley's grandstanding hatred for all things OKC, he said it's worth a trip to OKC to visit the Memorial and Museum.

Cat said...

Yow! I might just need to fly down there to see that show (and escape winter, like a multitasker).

We were just discussing 120 Minutes and The State today before I even saw this post...weird MTV Zeitgeist goin' on today. For those who haven't seen The State, check out "Wet Hot American Summer", which features a majority of the cast, and is one of my favorite movies out there.

Frufra said...

amh, I will be checking out your video. I am a relatively new Okie (almost three years now), but feel that the Memorial tells what is best about the people in this part of the country. It is stunning, absolutely wonderful.

And yes, I also cried the entire time. Surrounded by 7th graders. Have you been there for a First Responders/Survivors talk? Again, wonderfully done. Ours was by an FBI agent.

amh.producer said...

Welcome! And I echo the sentiment. Sam Presti does too. Every Thunder player, employee, etc. MUST tour the Museum and Memorial to get a sense of where they are and what makes the people / this state who they are.

Oh and I miss MTV (the REAL MTV)... Like back when the Real World was really the Real World, not let's ply you with free booze and never work Real World.
