Spice Girls Reuniting For Closing Ceremonies

Victoria Beckham has finally agreed and The Spice Girls are set for one final performance to be held at the closing ceremonies of the London Olympics. This thing has been on and off again so much over the past year with everyone wanting to do the show except for Victoria. Now though, even she has agreed. The closing ceremonies will also have performances from George Michael and The Who. That is quite the combination. Oh, and Take That will also reunite one last time too. It is not like any of the members will actually do any real singing so I don't see what the holdup was. I think Victoria would just like to pretend that part of her life never existed.

Oh thank God. Of all the amazing musical acts England has given the world and they could have showcased, the Spice Girls is definitely the cream of the crop. Fantastic.

@anita_mark - Exactly.

I don't blame her. She has to get up there, act the fool, fake sing. Its got to be humiliating. She has 4 kids, a hot husband and paps to pose for. She doesn' need this.

Why, Lord, why? Why? What have we done to collectively deserve this punishment? What?

ever since that bi was revealed about ms. posh spice i try to like her. but the way she holds herself in the public, and the vibes that she gives the other four women who helped make her relevant enough to have the wardrobe, career, and family she has today... its just hard not to hate her.

I just hope that the Olympics is safe this year and no wacky nut jobs try to hurt anyone.

The opening and closing ceremonies are always cheesy. This all sounds about right. If they could dig up Lennon & Harrison and prop them next to Paul & Ringo for a Beatles set they would.

Everyone else might be completely over it, but I'm excited to see the Spice Girls reunite! I remember being in college with no car and figuring out how to get to the adjoining city by bus with my best friend to see the premiere of Spice World.

I'm am freaking pumped for this. I LOVE the spice girls and I loved their movie. It's just fun pop music that I like to dance to. And the who?!?! Yay even if it's only half of the who, I'll deal.

David is going to be annoyed that she gets a role and he doesn't.

I saw the Spice Girls at the last reunion and they were fun and put on a good show.

Hate Take That but that aside they were only really successful in the UK and Ireland, not appropriate that they are performing at this.

What is wrong with you people? Omg! This is amazing news!!! I was 10 when they first came out, I will always have a soft spot for them.

Hate to point this out, but Take That have been back together for more than five years now, were the third biggest grossing tour in the world last year, and have said that they plan to do another album next year and tour after that. And Robbie Williams was with them for the last album and tour last year. This isn't a "getting together one last time" thing for them. They definitely aren't the Spice Girls.

Don't worry about Olympic security. Apart from the several thousand security peeps (another private sector cock-up, but never mind), all the British Army not in Afgan/peacekeeping will be there, and so many police that crims in the rest of the country will be running amok. Then there's ground to air missiles on top of apartment blocks, a no-fly zone, and because it's so scary abroad, the US team is bringing 1,000 of its own security personnel.

There's no room left for the audience, once that lot and the big-wigs are in the stadium.

George Michael!!!

When I was 13, I went to the British Isles on a student ambassador trip; one of my friends was given a Spice Girls casette from her homestay sister and we were all taking turns borrowing it. When the Spice Girls hit the U.S. several months later, I was super excited.

Even if they're not that talented, their music was catchy and I'm a little excited that they're doing another show.

I disagree, The Spice Girls were very popular in North America in their day. I don't understand why them though at the closing ceremonies, poor Posh was the one who couldn't sing worth a damn. Did anyone watch the International Idol competition several years ago? I believe it was live and Posh was a guest singer and I felt so bad for her. She stank so bad as if she never sang before in her life, it was cruel really to have her on.

After having just seen a Roger Waters tour, I don't think the Spice Girls will quite stack up.

I'm with you MM, I'm excited to see them. People can hate all they want, but the Spice Girls were one of the biggest pop groups to come out of England. It would've been weird if they didn't perform.

AND George Michael?!?! Cut to him singing Freedom and me with tears in my eyes.

Aren't they now the "Old Spice" girls....LOL... =)

Shocky said...

@Ariedana I have a somewhat irrational hatred of Take That but am really surprised by that. None of my American friends have any idea who they are.

Add me to the list of folks who are excited to see the Spice Girls perform. They are still the epitome of Brit Pop for a lot of the world. And Take That is notable for Robbie Williams, who also has achieved massive worldwide fame and represents the UK to much of the world.

Come on, have some fun. The SGs were fun! They're like the anti Leonard Cohen. Not every day is a heavy burden.

They've all been pretty successful, so it's not like they need the money. It should be a blast.

mannyv said...

Well, maybe blast is the wrong word. It should be a lot of fun and a good show.

cinephreak said...

A lot of haters today! Im so pumped! I love(d) them so much when I was younger.

I like Victoria, and I didn't always like her. I'm glad to see her out doing something though...I still believe she was the blind about the new mother having a hard time with post-partum depression.

Posh, you go right ahead and lip sync to your old vocals. I'll watch you anyway and love it.

Ummm...Take That may be cheesy but I had to give in, I think they're great pop stars - I am totally excited to see them perform to an international audience. Olympics are for celebrating what's great in the host country and Take That have certainly proven they are beloved in their homeland. Plus they do the most ridonk, over the top camp elaborate performance pieces in concert - like to French/Japanese levels of spectacle - PERFECT for Olympic closing ceremonies, LOL.

And they completely and clearly sing live in concert, but I guess Enty was referring to the Spice Girls on that note...I still regard them as a total novelty and am not that interested but OK!

(I'm also pretty sure they aren't done with their ongoing 2.0 formation, if Gary Barlow is to be believed - no "one last time" for the foursome at least - maybe with Robbie involved?)

Ugh, so much more excited for this than the Games... /popnerd

I adore the Spice Girls. And Spice World is just popalicicious, bubblegummy fun.

Jennmcn said...

Maybe the rest of the girls have nothing else but I don't blame Victoria for wanting to pretend it never happened. Dig up The Who and have done with it.

If Tupac Shakur can tour in 2012 as a hologram, they can make some George & John holograms for The Beatles. They should really just do 4 holograms of the band in 1966 & skip rolling the senior citizens on stage.

Nice ageism, Shay. /s

What's "old" to you, for a woman?

35?

40?

Fuck off.
