Only because I can see them from the air conditioned comforts of my home, otherwise I would not venture out and deal with crowds and heat to see them.
Fireworks are lame.
When I was younger I loved fireworks. These days it's not as big of a deal. I doubt I'll see many this year...going to my moms and then a bbq and plan on being home in and bed by 9pm. :::old people business:::
I can see them from the pier so no crowds. :D
I'll be at work so I'll thankfully miss them. When I was young I enjoyed them but now a days.. It's too hot out and too much traffic.

I still love to go to a public fireworks show. Here, they do it over the Mississippi River. It's cool. What I hate is going to someone's backyard party and fucktards are shooting off their own fireworks. 'Cause it's easy to buy them here. Scary and lame all at the same time.
I'm still a kid inside. I love fireworks, and I love the look on my daughter's face when she watches them.
i haven't gone to see them in years, but i think I will go this year...and hope the countryside doesn't catch fire (we are still pretty dry here in Tx)...
Praying they cancel/postpone because of the dry weather in the Midwest. I like watching them but don't want my house to go up in flames!
My parents never really did much on the 4th of July. Once I moved out I started going to see the Fireworks with friends and now that I have 2 children, I've seen them every year except one when I was ill for the last 21 years. Don't care about crowds, etc. Sharing the fireworks show with my children, etc is worth it 100%.
We climb out our bedroom window onto the garage roof, where we have the perfect view of our town firework display. It's evolved over the years from just our 4 family members to extended family to family and friends. Expecting 20 people or so on the rooftop this year. No traffic and the food and bathroom are right inside.

I used to enjoy July 4th in Boston "Boston Pops" .I actually remember Arthur Fiedler (and a lot of funny smelling cigarettes). Fireworks were always the best there.

I love watching fireworks but won't mess with the hordes to do so.
Not really. Since I live in a Chicago neighborhood, we'll probably just watch all the fireworks that are shot from the alleys.
A lot of local fireworks shows have been canceled here, due to the dry conditions.
It really doesn't matter how many crowds thre are, and how much effort there is to see fireworks. The biggest difference between a crappy fireworks show and a great one is who you're hanging out with when you see them.
If you're surrounded by people having a good time, you will, too. If your entourage includes a bunch of people bitching about everything, the fireworks will suck, every time.
Love fireworks. We usually just do some small ones from the grocery store at our house (we live in the country). This year my husband wants to take our 7 yr old to see the "real" ones in the city since he's never seen them, but not looking forward to crowds. Will be exciting to see his face though!
When I lived in Santa Barbara I watched the fireworks from a sandpit on the beach. When I lived in DC I watched them next to a filled cooler on the Mall.
Local fireworks don't compare and aren't worth the trouble. And as great as I've heard the Philly show is, I'm not up to dealing with that crowd.

Being from Boston and watching the Pops as a kid has made it a big deal for me.
However, one of the best viewings was when I was driving west on the 91 and I could see all the fireworks throughout South Bay. That was pretty cool.

When work was at the old building, we'd climb out on the roof and get to see around 5 different shows so yeah, that was worth it.
Nowadays, since work has moved to a new location, there's nothing to see... so I work the holiday, get the fabulous OT, and enjoy fireworks on the tube from an air conditioned office.
I love the fireworks:) I am in Boston so of course the Esplanade with the Boston Pops!!! The crowds are crappy but you can view them from many places that are not so crowded!
certain places are worth it like in San Francisco if you have a motorcycle so you can get in and out.
This will be first time in many years that I will be home for the 4th so I probably won't see any fireworks. It's just too hot and too crowded.
If I have a few drinks of courage, I might leave the pool to climb on the roof, but that's a recipe for disaster. I can get up, but getting down is an issue.
I'll be watching the fireworks show provided by a local country club from my front porch.
I hate what fireworks do to my poor dog, they make him a nervous wreck. :(
@perfecttt2 - we are visiting DC next month. Any insider suggestions for places to visit/eat? We are staying in the Dupont Circle area.
Fireworks - not worth the crowds but may try it this year to make the little guy happy.

Yesterday was Canada Day. I live in Ottawa and we always go to Parliament Hill to watch the fireworks (photos).
We live downtown so it's no big effort to get there but I love the fact that so many people converge in one area to celebrate the same thing.
We go out to see them across the sound in our boat. We like seeing them catch the marsh on fire, as happens pretty much every year.
Oh, and then there was our excursion three years ago when another boater almost killed us.

I love fireworks but nowadays I only go watch them if I know I can get a comfy spot away from the crowds.
Our fireworks are on the 6th which is just inexcusably stupid. Considering it is National Fried Chicken Day, we'll pick up a bucket from the colonel and head out. :)
When we were kids our father would light all the fireworks in the back yard. Some of them were bloody dangerous! Jacky-jumpers would chase us around the garden, catherine wheels would fly off the wooden block that they were pinned to. We had a massive rocket one year which Daddy put in a garden bin(too big for a milk bottle!) and the whole sky lit up when he set it off. And Mammy would make us toffee apples and hot dogs..........ahhh happy times. We had a dog when I was a mid-teen and the fireworks stopped because the dog would cry pitifully in fear of the noises. We went to the public shows after that.

@Ms.Cool, all things Smithsonian! Dupont Circle is beautiful, make sure DC has the electricity back on before you go.
We used to take the kids to Fernandina Beach in NE FL but it is so crowded we find other places. The town we live in is small and the city does a pretty good show from a field by the aviation center. We can park on the side of the road or go sit in the parking lot of good old Winn-Dixie and watch from back of trucks and lawn chairs with a few beer(except me somebody has to drive).
I let some fireworks here. It really pisses off a few of the neighbours!!! "that bloody Yankee"! EVERY YEAR!! I love it!

I watch them on TV. Not putting up with the crowds and traffic.

I always wondered why my Mom never missed a big fireworks show, right up to her 70's before she died. Then I visited a friend in Chicago (where she grew up) and we went to a boat regalia in Grant Park. For about a century they have lined up all the private yachts who want to participate, decorate them with Christmas lights & parade them on Lake Michigan. At the end they had the greatest fireworks show I have ever seen. And it had double the impact because it was reflected a second time in the water. OK Mom, now I get it. Had I grown up going to fireworks shows over Lake Michigan it would have hooked me for life too.
Live in small town, can drive 10 mins to see fireworks, traffic not so bad. So annoying to hv to condider shld u go or not because of traffic! Oh plus the man next door leaves his dog out when there are fireworks, and doggie cries. I dint even like the dog but i sure feel sorry for him. Can i call aspa? Cant talk ti guy- he drinks bug time and is rarely rational. Advice please!

Las Vegas is in a huge valley, there is a 2000 foot vertical drop from our house to the strip so we get a great free show, plus two more from local casino's.
As a kid we always went to Green Lake in Seattle for the show.
@nolachickee the best display I've seen was on the river in New Orleans right after the Saints won the Superbowl. That, and Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge. I live pretty far out in MS right now, and I don't think it's worth it to drive to the city - too hot and crowded. It was better when I lived in N.O. and could sit on my apartment balcony to watch. As a kid, we just watched my dad make homemade fireworks from some ordinance a friend of his had. Scary and fun.
I might as well see them considering that all I need to do is look out my window.
@DelRiser, oh what a view you must have. We did the helicopter champagne flight to the Grand Canyon at dusk. Coming back along the Strip was an additional bonus. We almost moved there !

Best fireworks show was off the coast of southern Connecticut. I got together with my college buddies thirty years later. We cruised to the middle of the harbor and could see 4-5 displays in various towns along the shore. The last was spectacular with the explosions going off just over our heads.
That was worth it.
The last time, I walked, since it was only about a mile. No hassle there. And if I didn't walk, I could see them from my my balcony.
There's also a minor league baseball team about a half-mile further on, and they have fireworks fairly frequently. I can see them from my balcony.
Like the Fireworks over Lake Michigan the best. But, I live in a small town 4 hrs. away where they do them in the grocery store parking lot. They did them Sat. night. The noise upsets my one Dog, so had to try and calm her down. Of course around here people throw firecrackers around all day & night is not funny. Also don't go because almost every year the drunks run over kids in the parking lot.
If I can't light the stuff myself, I don't want to see them.
Crowds, mosquitoes, stiff neck. I'll pass.

I love the Grand Canyon, we've been several times. I still don't regret our move from Seattle to the Mojave Desert. Sun every day. It's a far cry from what I was used to, but good.
I have lived in ATL for 2 yrs, but the only place I have seen them is over Turner field. As a kid, we lived in FL or went back each year, and always to Disney - so we always saw fireworks and awesome laser shows. I remember a few years back when they added hearts and lips in Jax., FL The girls loved those, the guys - not so much. Used to go to at least one show, then shoot them off the dock w/my nieces and little brothers, but never any big ones. Then, last year I went out of state and bought smiley face ones, bottle rockets, etc! A bunch of guys in the neighborhood did the same thing. We had enough for 2 nights. Neighbors had a party and the guys shot off the big monsters, smiley faces, huge bombs in the sky, it was soooo much fun!! This year we got a much smaller arsenal, are going to a baseball game and who knows what else. Family will be in town - oh - and goooood ribs! Happy late Independence Day to our Canadian friends and Happy 4th to all the Americans!

Used to be fun as a kid. Now, in my 30s .... Meh. I'd rather have a beer on my porch and pretend like I'm at navy pier.
I usually take a chair out to our front lawn & watch the Fairfax fireworks show :) I hate crowds, so even though I'ved lived outside DC for years, I have never seen the show on the Mall. So far, I've never been able to bring myself to go.
@Ms.Cool: there are so many awesome places to go here, that the best way to tackle it would probably be to think a bit strategically (what are you really into seeing vs. what you'd be fine skipping) & go from there. The National Gallery of Art is amazing if that's you're thing; def. the Smithsonians; the Spy Museum is cool, for something a little different; the Holocaust Museum, if you're OK w/the serious subject matter on vacation. Might be worth checking National Geographic to see what exhibit they have on display...and if you have the means to get there, the National Cathedral is really beautiful :)
Zambelli Pyrotechnic experts do great shows and are near to where I live. I like fire works but do not go out of my way to see them unless they do the show.
I am not going to see them this year because I will have to be up before the crack of dawn for work the next day.
Great for kids. Now that I'm 42, I'm sick of fireworks and people.
I really don't go anywhere much that doesn't offer air conditioning and room service. People here line up at dawn to get a spot for the Pops concert and sit in the sun all day waiting.
I can watch on tv and if I am really needing a fireworks fix our neighbors set off a little show and I can watch from my porch. As it is it is usually just very noisy, I think I might not be a fireworks person deep down.
my kids will be with their bio dad so i won't bother. with them its fun. w/o them i think i'd be botheed by the traffic to and from the whole thing. can't see any from our house, but will likely hear a bunch.

Still worth it to just to belt along cheesily with Lee Greenwood, blaring from the PA, with a couple of thousand of rowdy, quirky neighbors while the fireworks go off.
(Also, our town couldn't afford them last year, so I'm happy they're coming back.)
no fireworks for me....i am sad to report that as a young girl i was told a story about my aunt nonie....she loved walnuts and grabbed a firecracker and bit it -it looked like a walnut...and blew half of her face off. not sure if the story is true, but i believe it. and yes, she only has half her face.
i am now terrified of fireworks.
I love fireworks! I don't mind the time/effort/crowds, but my husband is the opposite. You definitely need a game plan and have to grab a spot early.
The best display I've seen so far were in NYC for the 4th. Disney also has a pretty impressive display which I could see from the balcony of my hotel room, not even remotely close to the park.
I think we will probably be skipping out on them this year though since the holiday falls mid-week.
After just returning home (thanks firefighters!) after being evacuated from our neighborhood in Colorado springs for the past week, I don't care if I ever see a firework, campfire, bonfire, flame, etc for the rest of my life.
I forgot to tell you guys about my favorite time. Actually it was the funniest. 3 years ago we went to our neighbors house. He is a local police officer and he went to SC and bought $1000 worth of the illegals. My husband then went and spent $400(I'll tell you about what I did to him for spending that much later) so we had a shitload of fireworks. They made a platform to set them off from and started setting them off. Now they had already floated 2 kegs so you can imagine how drunk they were. Someone accidentally knocked over a firework and all you could see in the flashes was a bunch of grown men screaming like girls and running every which way. It was hilarious and so work the mosquitoe bites.
