Autistic Jodi DiPiazza Performs Firework With Katy Perry

This is 8 minutes that will probably make you cry. It also makes you realize the difference between getting into a program for children that supports and encourages your child in contrast to communities that don't have programs because of budget cuts or not enough funds. When you see how far this girl has come, it is amazing.

She sang Tomorrow on GMA this morning. I promptly cried. Bless her.

Totally tears from this one. Especially when you listen to the lyrics from the song and see how far she has come. Absolutely amazing.

Good on Katy for doing this, too. She was careful to not oversing and drown Jodi out. She focused on her during the whole song, too. Makes me like her more.

A family member of mine worked on this show and said that during rehearsals Katy Perry spent over an hour just hanging out with Jodi, playing with her and talking to her, singing other songs with her.

Amazing. These autistic kids need so much help and this shows that you cannot give up on them.

Well done Katy Perry and Jodi DiPiazza!

This makes me like Katy Perry so much more.
Two of my brothers have learning disorders, one has aspergers and short term memory loss and the worst feeling in the world is looking at my Mother and see her blaming herself and hating herself for the moments that my brother will never have. It is one of the reasons that I chose to study education and make children my profession.
Jeez I can't stop crying watching this.

Beautiful! Music is so important for our kids!

Wow to Jodi! What a talented musician. Just amazing! I must say that about the 3:35 mark when everyone starts to cheer her, her face lights up to a glow! It's just fabulous to see.

And Katy Perry! What a big heart you have! I loved how she kept this focused on Jodi. Katy adjusted her singing to make sure Jodi wasn't drowned out. What a beautiful performance. Thanks to the other person who shared about Katy during rehearsal. I knew she was a good egg!

This a great thing. Thank you Enty. This made my day :D

I did not expect to cry but was dead wrong. I had tears streaming down. Katy sounds like she has a lump in her throat when she first starts singing and that just makes me love her. Well done, Katy!

I saw it this morning and cried like a baby.

What a great thing to see so early in the morning.

Major kudos to Katy for this, but the real star is Jodi! And how cute were her pink roper boots =)

Beautiful!
My 7 year old is a huge KP fan (she's doing a g rated costume of her for Halloween) and I have to say I liked her a bit after watching her movie but this makes me really believe she's that much more wonderful. She seems genuinely present.

My son is 2 years old and has autism. This gives me so much hope. Needless to say, I'm a big ball of tears now!

Is Katy Perry the nicest person to become a huge star ever? She's like the anti-Madonna. I wish I could like her music as much as I like her. Oh well. I'll keep trying.

This is the sweetest thing! Go Katy and Jodi.

Can't watch now, but really want to watch later.

I'm with ya, lazyday. She seems like she's actually very kind and normal, but I haven't heard too many of her songs that were more than meh for me. I still kinda root for her, though!

dia, I too wanted to comment on how Katy made sure she didn't sing loudly. I have friends who are musicians and they say that singing softly is much more difficult. Have seen Katy Perry in concert and she was awesome, like her even more now.

Okay, that made me cry, too. And I have new found respect for Katy Perry, who did not upstage this little girl and let her have her moment.

Fantastic performance, amazing girl. Katy Perry was terrific was well. Didn't think I'd cry, but yep. Lovely moment.

OMG I am shooting tears out of my eye sockets. That was brilliant. Jodi you got swagger, girlfriend! You too KP :-)

Don't comment too much, but had to at this. Can't stop smiling at this young ladies triumph over this hideous disorder. There will always be a battle, but this day Jodi won. And good on Katy Perry for getting her head out of her self-absorbed arse for 5 minutes.

I am a special education teacher who worked with students with autism for over 7 years and got completely burned-out. I am still a special educator but now work with kids with multiple physical disabilities.

After almost leaving the profession I swore I would never work with kids with autism again. Hard to explain, but I hit the wall really hard 7 years in to my career. Not uncommon.

Anyway, seeing Jodi gives me hope and happiness for kids with autism that I haven't felt in along time. Thank you to her parents, teachers, Katy P. and especially Jodi herself. Love, BW

omggg I didn't expect for me to react this way but I am crying like a baby at work watching this. This is so amazing and I now have a newfound respect for Katy Perry. She didn't overpower Jodi... it was amazing. What an incredible kid... this song is so appropriate for everything she's been through. It sounded like Katy was getting choked up at the end for sure. I don't blame her. Kudos!

I'm a Katy fan. She might make some questionable choices but she seems like a genuinely kind person.
