French Police Arresting Photographer Who Took Kate Middleton Topless Photos

It has been forever and a day and the Kate Middleton topless photo flurry has settled down to nothing, but the French are going to stir it all up again as they arrest the photographer who took the famous photos. French police have finally identified the woman who took the photos and plan on arresting her. Because of the privacy laws in France, it is possible to jail a member of the press. I think it is ridiculous. If the photographer had taken photos from her same vantage point of some dramatic world event that won her a Pulitzer would they be jailing her? No. So, because it is a pair of breasts they decided they needed to?

Holy crap. That's super far away! I had no idea there were lenses THAT powerful.

But she didn't take photos of a major event. She invaded someone's very reasonable expectation of privacy. I think being a mile from the road is more than reasonable.

agree with you Ent. Ridiculous.

Oh, the courageous French!

Yeah @amber seeing a camera lens that strong is kinda freaking me out!

it's called a 'privacy law' for a reason. how does winning Pulitzer Prize for a world event as an analogy work? You take a naked picture of me unsolicited I want your ass in jail too. And I'm not in France.

exactly!

And they say the monarchy doesn't have any power any more.

That is the dumbest pseudo analogy I've ever read. Arrest the bitch.

That is super creepy. No wonder Hot Harry's love doesn't want any part of that life.

I'm setting up hidden wireless webcams in all of Enty's bathrooms. I'll call the website "The Fatman Dryeth". It will appeal to a very narrow segment of the population (how many people really want to see a 400 pound bacon junkie undressed? Maybe a few). Anyway I hope to win a Nobel Prize for exposing corruption of the human body this way. Or at least a Pulitzer Prize.

If Kate was that concerned about privacy she would have kept her top on, period.

for a lawyer this is a very, for the lack of a better word, lame comment.
you know the law beforehand. you don´t change it afterwards depending on who broke that. of course money buy some alternatives but, how can you not take photos in france as french and not sell them abroad under really good privacy?

and yeah the lenses are so powerfull - that is why when the paps stick their cams up your nose you get upset.

You should follow the laws of the land unless you are performing a public service - totally a lame analogy from ENT

sorry but Enty can NOT be lawyer with this commentary!

He also would not be too wealthy if he still insists on this shit ads.

bah. looser

Looser than what?

I say an arrest is appropriate if the law supports it. everyone should have some privacy. its not just that she took the photos, its that he sold them and made alot of money on them. so, not feeling sorry for her at all.

and french girl, why on earth you would assume that enty can't be a lawyer w/that commentary? do you know what every lawyer thinks?

Everybody knows Enty is loose, no news there.

Well, it wasnt a prize winning photo, it was taking nude pics of someone who was unaware of it for profit. Esp crummy that one women wld do this to another. I hv no sympathy for this photog at all

I really dislike the should-have-kept-her-top-on commentary here and in other places. It's like saying a rape victim is to blame for what happened because she wore skimpy clothes. It's just nonsense. On private property she the same right as everyone to go topless or not.

I never thought I would admire the French for something but there's a first time for everything.

Now I really don't think this site is written by a lawyer 100% of the time. That was the weakest analogy ever.

Beth said...

At least it wasn't a sniper, just a photog. Nice security perimeter.

Enty is no lawyer, or professional with his/her questionable grammar and analogy.

I've met some attorneys who were horrific writers. Never as bad as this, though. If he is an attorney, he's TRYING to make it bad.

Ditto. Arrest the bitch. You DON'T peep on other people's private time and take pictures of it!

Its just U said...

Taking sexually charged photo's of a woman without her consent and selling them for profit is sexual exploitation. That is true if that person is a Princess or homeless, if she is grown up or just a little girl.
She was on private property having some private time with her husband. She has every right to enjoy such things.
This photographer went to a lot of trouble to get this shot so it wasn't like they 'stumbled across' an opportunity.

It wasn't just topless photos, weren't they also photographed having sex? In the 1st couple days of these pictures being released I remember the having sex pictures were on the market & available online.

That is an incredible long distance. No wonder the couple thought they were alone to play hokey pokey.

Amber - Yeah, there are some crazy-long lenses. This lens below is massive, and worth reading because the reviews are hilarious! I have one of these and used it to take amazing photos of my son's graduation. What makes it amazing is... I don't have any kids yet! LOL!

Joking aside, it's pretty incredible how powerful equipment is these days. I don't know if it's right or wrong for that photog to be arrested. (I'm a photographer, and lean towards yes to the arrest.) Kate wasn't in public, and it's slimy to spy like this and sell it. It's akin to when people secretly film guests in bathrooms, etc. If either happened to me I'd feel completely violated. But I do think people should be more careful when they get nekkid outdoors or in front of open curtains; you never know who is looking.
