Model Says NYC Family Treated Her Like A Slave

For one month, aspiring model Andrea Duncan told The NY Daily News that a wealthy NYC family treated her like a slave when she went to nanny for their 23 year old developmentally disabled daughter. Andrea was not kidnapped or locked up and was free to leave at any time she wished, but she is suing the family because she says she was forced to take drugs, was scalded with hot water, forced to dress sexy and to be nice on dates with the family's single male friends. Oh, and she was also forced to help clean the house when the maid quit. Huh? The photo above is from Andrea's Facebook page. Andrea says the family treated her way worse than Cinderella and is now wondering how much longer it will be before she can get her own reality show or get to pose for Playboy. Keeping it classy and tasteful of course.

When will models learn that men do not like looking up your nose. Smh

timebob said...

so basically she wanted to be treated like a second daughter and when none of the rich men panned out to be her sugar bear...time to get litigous? Something doesn't smell right here.

Considering the assumption that she is also the one who claims to be a model, I'd take everything else she says with a grain of salt. Maybe some lime. Definitely tequila.

Honey, if you're free to leave at anytime, an adult and a US citizen (or here legally), you aren't a slave. Basically, I read this as she had to do her job and then was given the opportunity to have fun with the parents in her off time.

(and I realize US citizens can be held against their will, but I am including it because an illegal alien could be "free" to leave but intimidated into staying by other means.)

Clearly she's looking for her 15 mins of fame. Please, let's not give it to her!

Clearly she's looking for an angle to become famous. Does she really think we believe this bullshit story?

katsm0711 said...

good idea @silly. Since it takes place in NYC, how about insead, we in the NYC area talk about how we are shitting our pants about Hurricane Sandy?? I'm on my way to the grocery store and I can't think of what food to buy that doesn't need refrigeration since I barely eat any processed foods and everything requires a refrigerator. Anyone else in the tri state area? My town is already flooding on the beach!

bread and peanut butter is my storm staple. I also have camping gear for boiling water, bought it specifically since momma needs her coffee. Luna bars are another healthy option, think power bars without processed crap.

Thanks Rick but I'm inland so not near the ocean. Where I live things don't get sold out. Maybe bc I'm right next to the busy shopping area and nobody has well water. I just need food but I'll probably end up eating out like last year. Except don't order ice cream in restaurants that lost power! I overheard a waitress talk a customer out of ice cream bc she said it all melted and when the power came back they just refroze it.

OneGirlRevolution said...

I have to say, looking at her picture, the shoes are kinda cracking me up. Here she's all "sexy" and everything but then her she's look like something a 6th grader would wear on dress-up day...All excited because mom finally let her wear "heels".

Stay safe, my east coast friends!

@katsm im in Queens and just waiting for it to come, i'm praying not to lose power. like everyone else im stocked up on peanut butter, jelly, bread, ritz crackers and lots of water. I actually bought a flashlight in a card store of all places. People were buying water like the end of the world was happening. Stay safe all us Northeasters!

Sounds like an easy way for her to get her pic plastered all over the place.

Since you can make your user name whatever you want and hide all pertinent info about yourself (in the same way blogger lets enty hide his info), I'd say you can be as anonymous as you care to be...or not.

I don't believe story for a second.

@katsmo: I live in hurricane country (Palm Beach County) - I keep water, chef boy-r-dee(I hate it but you can eat it out of the can), granola bars, peanut butter & jelly, bottled spaghetti sauce (in case I can boil some pasta), that rice you can microwave (you can eat it cold) and canned/bottled gravy. CAnned tuna and canned chicken of course. try to stay away from salted stuff unless you have tons of water and your toilets are working, Oh yeah, cereal and that mild in cartons or dry milk you make with water. You can't have enough water. Fill up your bathtub in case you need the water to flush with. If you're worried about your windows breaking or flooding, put valuable papers, jewelry etc in your dishawasher and shut it.

Please exucse my typing - I'm on Mr. B's laptop and the keys aren't where I expect them to be.

SusanB said...

of course I meant milk in water not mild in water, I hate typing on laptops and phones.

OneGirlRevolution said...

@Susan...I'm not in the NE but rarely (thankfully) we have some flooding where I live. I never thought of the dishwasher as a place to put stuff but that is actually a brilliant idea. Thanks!

Don't know about her situation, but as a former au pair, I can tell you wealthy families want low paid servants, they can act inferior over and treat like shit.

When you pay peanuts, expect your employee to behave like a monkey.

If you are free to leave at any time, you are NOT a slave.

Also in sandy's path!! Ugh!! Hv water, cash, foodstuffs and most importantly, stuff ti read and flashlights. What else can one do? Also gas grill outside if needed. And fireplace. Good luck!!!! Keep us updated so i can get more terrified, lol. We not getting it til tomorrow afternoon.

Dont know if her story is for real or not. No cause for a reality show tho, please god, there is enough stupid crap on tv.

auntliddy said...

And she looks pretty slutty and cheap to be a model.

Eeekalicious said...

They must have hired her privately..She doesn't seem like someone an agency would send....Who would hire a twit like this? She must have been much different in her interview....

hollywood dime said...

those shoes, that dress, that pose...horrid! she looks like an eastern block hooker, no offense to eastern block hookers of course.

@kat you should stock up on canned foods, water, things that don't need refrigeration etc. DO NOT depend on being able to eat out. if that staff cant get to work because of the storm you're screwed. I just left the whole foods and its a mad house in there. the shelves are getting bare. I live in manhattan and most restaurants are closing at 4. markets at 7. the trains are shutting at 7. Be prepared babe.

MISCH said...

Since she wasn't locked in a closet this is a crock...

@misch I wish had been locked in a closet...maybe she would've had better clothes on in this "photo shoot"

SusanB said...

yeah, forgot batteries - make sure your cell phone, laptop, etc are charged. I also have an old boombox that works great. I saw Agent*it yesterday recommended doing your laundry - good tip - you don't want to run out of clean clothes, towels, etc. I saw a tip on the weather channel last night - fill plastic bags 1/2 full of water and cram them into all the corners of your freezer - keeps your food colder longer and gives you ice. Just don't fill them all the way. Good luck to all you northerners! Sounds like it's going to be really rough.

BlindItemMe said...

Good luck to everyone in the NE, I hope you all stay safe!

This sounds strange- but we have a bucket with an attached toilet seat we use every time there is a bad storm and we lose power. We line it with a garbage bag and kitty litter which absorbs.. Then every 2 uses we can out the bag and get fresh litter. It sounds crazy but it's actually very clean and very efficient. We had an ice storm years ago and we were without power for 6 days and we had filled the bathtub with water for flushing- but that ran out after 3 days. This works great and if you stick up right can cover you for a long time! Stay safe fellow east coasters! Better safe and crazy than sorry!!! :)

SusanB said...

@Gertie - great idea -we have a ca
t and an old bucket - I'll be buying atoilet seat this week!!!!

nc shows no signs of hurricane. stay safe, northerners.

as for this girl, i'm interested in how they forced her to use drugs? she was scalded? if these are true, she can make a legitimate case, right?

Gossiping Gertie said...

Thanks Susan!! We got ours at Cabelas and the seat fits perfect on the bucket. We also take it ice fishing with the kids :)

The toilet seat idea is brilliant! I just texted it to my sister who does lose her water when the power goes out. Luckily I always have water. My problem is I don't eat bread, most grains, peanuts, basically everything I eat needs a fridge! I did find some granola bars that look ok. This might be so stupid but I'm making stew that will be important enough to go in the cooler if I have to and I'm contributing the most by finishing off the ice cream in the freezer. (my diet's not perfect so sue me)

AlexT said...

She should have read the Nanny Diaries 4 years ago when everyone else did. Also, she'll never convince anyone she's a model with those dumpy shoes. And legs.

@katsm0711 - it's probably too late at this point, but you do not need a refrigerator for: apples, nuts, canned tuna or salmon, carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes, chocolate, cereal, bread. Although I'd probably make an exception in the processed food ban for cases such as this.

katsm0711 said...

I'm on a coastal town in Connecticut. About 7 miles in so I don't get the ocean surge flooding but I do if it rains a lot. Last year with 60MPH winds during Irene, I got so scared that I left my bed and slept downstairs on a couch bc I was so scared a tree would fall on the house. Now we are getting wth is 35-40 kts winds? I'm really scared.

mooshki said...

Ginr, Lola was right, and also, the blog did start out with anonymous comments and it led to all kinds of nastiness. The last time Enty turned anonymous commenting back on, someone described murdering someone. Go back and read some of the early posts if you want to see what completely anonymous commenting leads to.

katsm0711 said...

thanks @alex! It's not too late. I actually was worried about my cucumbers. I am making a processed food exception and since the store I went to was out of the $5 sweet potato chips, I'll suck it up and make real popcorn if I have to. I don't eat corn either but... And I guess I'll eat bread if I'm starving. At least I know it doesn't make me sick. I'm really freaking scared. Last year when Irene hit the winds terrified me and now they are going to be worse. I went to buy candles and I treated myself to a bunch of Yankee Candles in soothing scents bc I'm so stressed out that I need them to calm me down. Oh, did I mention I rear ended someone on my way to the store today? I always thought rear enders were always the person behinds fault but if there was one time, I say half the blame was on the insane driver in front of me. I was nice though. Hmmm. is it time for "beach flowers, true rose, french vanilla, sun & sand or fresh cut roses"? I'm saving the lemon candle for when I'm sad after seeing all the damage outside ;)

katsm0711 said...

MURDER???? WTF??????????????

OneGirlRevolution said...

@Mooshki, I remember him! Didn't he freak people out on another post and some people hunted him down and turned him in?

Wasn't that also with Roar, the cat murdering freak?

OneGirlRevolution said...

Oops..."Ror". I only read in spurts back then; is he also who everyone ended up thinking was the murderer? I can't remember. I just remember everyone was freaked out for days.

This thread seriously scared me.

@Katsm We eat primarily a whole food diet as well, but we do have some grains. Almonds, brown rice, oatmeal, Kind bars, high quality protein powder to mix w/water, small containers of almond or soy milk, powdered eggs (I know), apples, canned chicken & tuna, almond or peanut butter, rice cakes, dried edamame or wasabi peas, shaved dried coconut chips (trader joes), roasted pumpkin seeds or sunflower seeds, and maybe some flavoring for your water (like MiO?). That should get you by without making any drastic changes to your current diet. Good luck and stay safe:(. My sis just moved to NYC and we are worried for her safety.

katsm0711 said...

Thanks @ella those are good suggestions!

Up here in the Boston area, supposedly the main thing we have to be really worried about is the wind; we're hearing steady winds of 40-50 mph w/higher gusts. Supposedly we won't get as much rain as they initially thought, which is good for those of us who live in basements ("garden apartment," my ass) and have already dealt w/flooding in the past. Since the ground isn't frozen & therefore unable to absorb rain (the first episode), and they don't expect us to get all 4" or so of rain at once (the second one; I think we got around 3" in less than 45 minutes), and we came through Irene OK, I'm being cautiously optimistic. *fingers crossed* I'm hoping we don't lose power, but I've got enough bread, PB, Fluff, Spam Spread (hey, I like it...), jam and tuna to make sandwiches for 2-3 days; I like to think that since I'm in the middle of the most densely populated city in the country, they'll be able to get our power back on faster than in the outlying areas. *knock on wood* In the meantime, I've got flashlights, batteries, an old phone to connect to my landline, an oil lamp, plenty of cat food & kitty litter (including a 20-lb. bag of the cheap stuff that I can put in a lawn & leaf bag if I need to sandbag the back door from the inside), toilet paper, paper towels, clean laundry, etc. I'm also doing my standard "must cook like a fiend during a natural disaster" routine; right now there's a pot of beef ragout simmering on the stove (from a cookbook about the last meals on the Titanic; this was for 3rd class), a batch of spiced shortbread just came out of the oven in my cast iron skillet, and I may make the current buns from the same meal/cookbook tomorrow, if I'm home from work. (Not sure yet what's up w/that, and won't know until I call our weather number in the morning, damn it, although since it's going to start getting nasty by noonish, I don't know why they'd want us to come in, only to turn around & leave.)

Thinking good thoughts for everyone who's much closer to the storm's path--take care of yourselves, OK?

(Hey, Himmmm--I'm not going to turn on the Iron Man signal this time, but aren't you going to wish us all luck w/the storm? Or are you somewhere hauling ass to higher ground? Everyone else seems to be checking in, so you might as well, too...)

Robin the Mad Photographer said...

As for the actual blind: I hate to say it, but she doesn't have the right kind of "look" to be a fashion model, and I'm not convinced she's pretty enough to be any other kind of model; at the very least, she has no idea of how to pose. (Yeah, the whole knock-kneed, "I gotta pee NOW!" look isn't particularly enticing...) I'm not saying her story is complete BS, but I'm finding it hard to believe that she couldn't leave one way or another.

@Robin, I do agree - a fashion model look she does not have.

Zeeky_Boogy_Doog said...

Not necessarily saying this girl is telling the truth, but oftentimes you can be in a job situation where you just can't leave. If she's a nanny, she probably lives with them. To lose the job means losing her home immediately, and it's possible she either had nowhere to go, or would have to leave NYC if she was from another part of the nation.

That said, that photo is awful!

Zeeky_Boogy_Doog said...

Good luck everyone in Sandy's path!

Tinned goods are your friend. There are plenty of good ones out there, seasoned black beans, lentils, green beans, fruits, meats. Make sure you have a manual tin opener, though! :)

Those filtered water pitchers are great in case water is safe, but maybe a little yuck for awhile. Tea bags can be used without heating water; I make tea a lot by just throwing a few into a large cup of cold water, they steep just as well.

Is the "model" posing in... an alley???

I spent most of my adult life living in Florida so I lived through many a hurricane.

I'd charge my laptop and Kindle. I had a hand crank radio and flashlight and regular flashlights and extra batteries.

I'd scrub out the tub and fill it with water and stock up on extra gallons of water.

Luckily I had a gas stove and gas hot water heater so even when I lost power I had hot water and was able to cook.

One year, I think it was 2005(?) there were 3 hurricanes in a row and some friends helped me board up my house. There are some wonderful clips called Plylox clips that you can get at hardware stores that let your pop plywood boards over your windows without having to drill holes into your house. My house was boarded up for a couple of weeks and it was like living in a cave-- horribly depressing, but I survived it and my house made it through without broken windows and I only lost power for a few days after the first 'cane.
