Child Services Says Ariel Winter's Mom Should Lose Custody

Child Protective Services is not a fan of Ariel Winter's mom. In their report, they say that Ariel's mom should lose custody and that she committed emotional abuse against Ariel. They did not find any evidence of physical abuse. They also recommend that Ariel's sister should be made Ariel's permanent guardian. Apparently the situation is so bad that if Ariel's sister was not available to be a guardian, they would have made Ariel a ward of the state. Yep, foster care. There is no way the mom will get custody again before Ariel turns 18, but I do think this is going to turn into even more of a mess before it is all said and done.

Poor kid. The more i read about it, the more her family seems like a cross between the jackons and ho-hans. Sister seems to be the only one that has her wellbeing in mind.

I'm sorry but every time i see the name Ariel i just think of the mermaid.

This whole situation is weird. Now her dad wants custody (he and the mom are separated) and her brother went from saying that she should be with their mom to saying she should be with the dad. Apparently cast/crew wanted the mom banned from the Modern Family set because she's so terrible, which makes me believe that Ariel is actually better off without her.

I'm going to say that Hollywood played a role in this decision. Separating a child in the industry from their mother, only makes things easier for them.

B/c clearly I buy that this whole thing is over the girl wanting to be with an older dude, and the mom wasn't going to play that.

I read somewhere (tmz i think) she was named after the little mermaid! Wonder if shes part fish too!

You'd think that there would be a way to resolve this kinda stuff in Hollywood by now....I dunno....it's been happening for ages, and it screws up so many kids. It's too bad there isn't more oversight or laws to help kids in these cases...

Except the story of the older boyfriend was put out by the mom's side. CPS would clearly have checked that out first. Also, there is family history of abusive behavior already. Remember, this is a mother who has exposed every single one of her children to Hollywood to become actors and provide income for the family. That fact alone should give you pause.

I think Julie should adopt her. Then everyone wins!

Did you guys know her brother played Pugsly on The Addams Family?

Look, I don't know if I trust the sister. Or the mother. Or the father. Maybe she should just be emancipated and get a business manager. It's a really sad situation.

It's also weird to me that since this all happened she's been photographed A LOT with her former actress sister. Sure we could say "Oh just because of this recent drama so the paps are on her" but I don't think it's that simple and, if it was, the sister wouldn't always be there. With that wee wee smirk...

I doubt Hollywood would want all this bad press just to separate one child from her mother. Anyone with two eyes can see the moms behavior throughout this while ordeal reeks of desperation. She wants those Modern Family checks.

@Maximus: I don't know that I trust the sister, either, but it makes sense that Ariel's being papped with big sis. She's 15 years old and can't drive. If she's going somewhere, she has to be with someone. Two months ago it probably would have been her mother next to her.

TMZ pointed out that the sister has previously filed for bankruptcy. She has an "acting studio", but they believe there's no way she rakes in the $75K/mo Ariel does. The dad claims he is a simple and modest man. I suspect the mother had custody because she strong armed her way into it. Who the hell knows.

She is also the new Disney princess Sofia the First.

I was just reading about that @Amber. She filed back in the year 2000 which was 12 years ago. She was about 21 and like a lot of people that age don't know squat about how to handle your money.

Who knows if the sister is to be trusted or not but until she starts asking the court for access to Ariel's money, I'm going to give her the benefit of the doubt.

Didn't the sister specifically ask not to have access to Ariel's money when she first filed for custody? That seemed to put her on a better footing to take care of her than the rest of this f-ed up family at least.

I wouldn't like to be this kid at all. Emotional abuse can be just as damaging as any other form and can lead to a seriously messed up adult.

I'm showing my age here - I see the name Ariel and think of The Tempest. I've never seen Little Mermaid!

This poor kid, I'm glad she's gotten out of the house with her mother. As for her father, suddenly he appears? I think she's best off at her sister's (unless there's something I don't know about her) - her sister completely understands the hell Ariel has gone through. I do remember we were all commenting on her dress a few years back. I have a feeling her money will be watched very closely while under guardianship. I sure hope she doesn't end up like Lohan...so far she seems smart to realize she needed to take drastic measures.

Ariel winter is the new voice for the new disney show Sofia the princess, im surprised they are going to contnue to let her be the voice since you know that they dont like any drama with any of their child stars

Shanelle is married with 2 kids, and owns an actor's studio. I don't know what the husband does but her home according to the state is stable enough to care for Ariel now.

I think assuming everything is a money grab is just coming from the mother and bleeding into peoples heads because of disasters like the Lohans, Jacksons and fallen child stars of the 80's.

Maybe Shanelle just wants to do the right thing and create a safe place for her sister since she never had one for herself at that age.

@Omama: Good thinking! The tv execs never crossed my mind but makes perfect sense. it's easier to pay her less and get her to do more work now.

What does CPS think of an adult dating a 15-year-old? I would think they frown about statutory rape as much or more than a horrible mother...
