Rolling Stones Live With Jeff Beck

So, yesterday this group called the Rolling Stones played a show in London. They then dragged up some guy named Jeff Beck on stage and played a song with him. Huh. They sound pretty good. If this band was not so old, I would think they would have a chance to make it in the music industry. They are no Ashlee Simpson though.

They are so obviously lip synching and pretending to play to a recorded track it's not even funny.

Seriously though I'm shocked nobody in the band needs a stool to make it through a 2 hour show. These guys have 15+ years on me & I can't stand up for 2 hours straight at a rock concert anymore. I saw Dylan 5 years ago and he never stood up once. Good for them. I need to watch Gimme Shelter again.

I've said it befor and I'll say it again. Some celebrities just don't know when to call it a day. Fame is a powerful drug.

@lazyday - I saw Leonard Cohen in September. Played for 4 hours, dropping to his knees while singing and skipping on and off stage. He moved all over the place with the energy of a teenager. He is 78.

They aren't faking this performance. Sometimes YouTube videos don't sync the audio and video correctly, possibly because of internet connection issues, etc.

Amber - hey I just saw Leonard too, I couldn't believe how long the concert was, I wanna be like that when I'm 78 too!

@msgirl - I'm 31 and I'm not even like that NOW! We were shocked it went on as long as it did, and by how unbelievably gracious he is. He's all class.

Jeff Beck - legend.

They wouldn't still be around if their shows didn't sell out as fast as they still do! They're legends and the stuff today is mostly crap so keep playing Stones!

@Amber, I was just kidding about the fake part. The Stones are the farthest thing from Ashlee Simpson imaginable. There is no more real real deal in rock and roll than The Rolling Stones. They wrote the book.

My comment went away!!!!! Jeff Beck is the man! He is one of the best guitar players. We have his blu ray that is just him and it rocks!

Never heard of them.

@lazyday - PHEW! I could not fathom how anyone could think that! hahaha

The real highlight of the night is that they were joined on stage by bassist Bill Wyman (who left the band in 1992) and lead guitarist Mick Taylor (who was with them from 1969 to 1974 and had since played once with them, in 1981).

This was definitely historic.

If anyone reads Keefs book "Life" you'll know why they continue to tour. Keef loves it and lives for it.

Well, that was great - thanks!

I believe that was sarcasm, sweetie.

I still say the Stones were the best concert I ever saw, even though I'm not a huge fan.

Sarcasm noted, enty, but the Stones are so NOT all that. Jeff Beck either, for that matter.

Jeff Beck IS all that, and then some.

So are the Stones. I saw them live a few years ago. They still got it.

Beck can still play, but Jagger's voice is shot, tuneless, & he moves like an awkward white guy w/no rhythm--tho to be fair that may be a simple case of old age/arthritis.

It's nuts: not sure I can articulate why I admire Iggy for continuing to perform, but always thought Stones should have retired after releasing the fairly decent Some Girls or earlier.

To me what distinguished them from old blues greats who kept touring: the latter were still full of energy & respect for their audiences, even as they approached retirement age; they didn't sleepwalk through their shows.

When the Stones & other bands reunited in late 70s, it was all about arenas, greed, & contempt for fans who'd shell out $$$ no matter what. I'm not knocking down people who can still enjoy the vestiges of bands that ceased to move forward decades ago--guess it still beats Madonna as well as Ashlee Simpson.

But it's sad, & reminds me why the appearance of the Clash, Ramones, Television, Talking Heads, et al was such a refreshing & exciting alternative.
