I got to hear my baby's heartbeat on Friday. Best present ever! After two miscarriages, I've been scared to death for the last 12 weeks. Now I can breath a little easier.

A new butt...my old one had a crack in it.

@Jeneral, congratulations!

Best Christmas gift ever, the Super Spirograph when I was 11.

Ari said...

I just got Chanel Lift cream!

Amber said...

@Barton - holy smokes! That's a lot! How do you store it?

My favs are my fleece hooded onesie (much to my BF's dismay), and new camera. I am beyond spoiled, and the parties responsible for the camera did not follow my specific instructions not to go over $100. Though I think the best part was having my BF's parents here and starting a new tradition!

2009: freedom from the ass-hat, fucker that i was married to. woot-woot! everyday since is christmas.

Amber said...

@Jeneral - congratulations, mama! :)

@FSP - hopefully you take better care of this one. Tsk, tsk.

@Amber - I also received an anal bum cover. So yes, I am prepared.

The toy presents I received as a child were the best because nothing since has surpassed the joy and excitement I experienced then.

A Kindle a couple of years ago. I literally use it everyday.

Hurrah @Me!

My favorite this year is a toss up between an immersion blender and a standup wine opener that my parents actually regifted to me (they don't have counter space for it and never took it out of the packaging--I've wanted it for years).

My best present ever was maybe my Barbie Townhouse. It was made of cardboard because my parents couldn't afford the Barbie Dream House. Despite shoddy materials, I made that thing last five or six years.

@Barton, Fink baking much??

@FSP, lol

@Jeneral, congrats, that's awesome!!!

@Me, congrats to you too!!

@Amber, whats an onesie? I thought it was baby clothes =((

I have an awesome bf that spoils me too much. After giving me a bunch of needed clothes this year he even gave me a pair of shoes that I wanted sooo badly, so nice!

7 years ago, the best gift was taking my daughter home from the hospital with a clean bill of health (she was diagnosed "failure to thrive") on the morning of Christmas Eve.

Jules_345 said...

My favorite gift ever was the nook I got a couple years ago, love that thing.

Best gift this Christmas was my 7 year olds crazy excitement when he came out and saw the tree and all the presents, amazing feeling :)

The funniest gift I ever got was a DVD from my ex. We watched it with my entire family on Christmas Day, right after lunch. A guy I had previously dated had a tiny role in it, and my ex was FURIOUS! My whole family got to witness just how unstable my ex was. He later dumped me for someone else.

Amber said...

@White lilly - kind of! I got this. It has a hood, which you cannot see in the pic. Hah.

Sherry said...

Congrats to Jeneral...My best was the ipod the Opster gave me..I lurve it to this day! AND seeing the whole fam damily this year for the first time since the little grand niece arrived.

Past: plane ticket to London

Present: the future Mr. Kay found an out-of-print CD that I had designed for a band about ten years ago. The record label and I didn't get along, and they never gave me a copy! I didn't want to buy one (I didn't even get paid for this because it was my then-husband's band), so I let it go. Lo and behold, in my stocking yesterday, what did I find? A perfect, shrink-wrapped copy for my portfolio!

I love the future Mr. Kay. He also got me the HUGE bottle of Creme de Corps. I'll be the softest girl in the land!

Jeneral- congrats!!

My best gift- my parents bought me a giant ass flat screen TV DVD player combo. I've had a giant box tv from the 80s for a long time. It was unexpected but needed.

My favorite gift- the picture frame my nephew made me in art class!

@Amber, oh, I see, Lol!! I've always wanted one of those but one that has the socks attached, you know what I mean? I'm sure it has a name... lol

I had a loss in March and am now 10 weeks with my 2nd. I heard the heartbeat at home Sunday night and it took away a lot of my anxiety! I use Angel Sounds. I felt so good, we announced Christmas Day on Facebook. Good luck and Congratulations!!!

Sherry said...

Oh Em! Congrats on the future hubs getting that CD for you. He sounds absolutely awesome. I take it the short ones loves him too? Best of luck girl!

Best ever "thing": My Star Wars lightsaber in 1977. You could change the colored disc insert to make it red or blue. Simpler times. Simpler times

Best ever surprise: My golden retriever Charlie in 2005

Best feeling: My 3 year old "got" the whole Santa thing this year. I will never forget how excited she was running into our bedroom to tell us that Santa had left presents under the tree

ChasingHeaven said...

Macbook Pro, yo!!!! My first Mac! Woot!

In the past my best present was my Vizsla puppy and as a child this giant white angora rabbit. She was so huggable and soft. My Dad set her cage in front of me with a blanket over it and when he took the blanket off I was so surprised and instantly in love with her. :) Ahhh sweet memories...

My late mother always splurged on luxury items every Christmas. Elizabeth Arden make-up kits, perfumes, luxurious sweaters. My immediate family is all deceased, my current family does not celebrate Christmas, but I will treasure those memories forever.

Leah said...

Worst, then Best Christmas ever: 1992, 3 days before Christmas, my then two year old (Johnny) had a bad reaction to a DPT vaccination. He started seizing, vomited, aspirated, and then stopped breathing. I recessitated him, and when the ambulance came, the parametics began to work in him (his heart was arrythymic). Johnny came to consciousness in the ambulance, and was later released from the hospital.

I got this really great watch this year that I really, really wanted.

Driving 9 hours home and 9 hours back in 5 days was definitely not how I wanted to spend my holidays.

EmEyeKay said...

@Sher: The Short One ADORES him. They were so cute on Christmas. TSO woke up Saturday morning with the stomach flu, and it went away Sunday. So guess who came down with it Xmas Eve? Yay, me! I opened presents with them and went right back to bed. I woke up many times hearing them laugh while they were playing Pokemon together. Can't wait till we're married and together all the time :)

Merry Christmas, btw, I was too sick to read/comment over the past two days. Tell the Opster that the Axe Murderer says "hi!".

Sugar said...

I got a hot pink snuggie with owls on it. Awesome. I also got skate/sneaker shoes. You know the ones the kids wear with the wheel in the heel? Well, I can't ride them for shit. It's a lot harder than it looks, people! Plus, I'm 40and they might not work right on a 40 year old grown ass woman.

Amber, I would have loved a onesie too. Maybe next year.

FSP you might need to ask for a razor for your cat tail, if you know what I mean.

Congrats to you, Jeneral!

Best Christmas present I ever got was in 1989. My mom got me this Esprit sweater I wanted so badly ... and then in the pocket of the sweater were tickets to the sold-out New Kids on the Block concert. I still smile whenever I think of how blown away I was.

PugsterMom said...

Best wishes to both of you!

EGB said...

Yay Jeneral! That truly is the best present! When I was a kid, my Barbie dream camper, especially because I knew my parents couldn't afford it, so it really helped me believe in Santa. As a grown up, I have been very blessed, but the best ever was a cashmere blanket. I use it every single day, take it when I travel and will have it forever. It makes me feel fancy.

PugsterMom said...

That's lovely. :)

mynerva said...

I got the Barbie camper too!! I adored it. It's the only Christmas present that I remember opening and FREAKING out.

Unknown said...

Congratulations on your pregnancy and best wishes!

One of the companies I worked for gave everyone a Christmas bonus on our payday before the holiday. It was the amount of our paychecks, so a month's salary in one day!

Unknown said...

I had the Barbie Townhouse too! My parents couldn't afford the Dreamhouse either. I loved that townhouse and had so much fun playing with it! I used to stage murder-mystery stories involving "accidents" with the elevator.

@Amber, I used to bake in a restaurant and I still make bread 2 to 3 times a week. I have a huge bin under my kitchen table. It's shameful, I know, but I love the smell of bread and I usually make a few loaves and give one away from each batch. I love baking bread.

My husband stayed up until 4am Christmas morning putting together a wonderful scrapbook of our son for me.

Mama June said...

As a kid, getting a bike was my favorite gift.

As an adult, my dyson was my favorite gift which is lame, but I love it and use it ALL the time!

This year, I splurged on a pair of frye boots for myself. :)

Amber said...

@Barton - that's awesome! Do you make all kinds of different artisan breads? I really wish I had the patience. I love a good bread with rosemary and garlic. Mmmm.

@curly - LOVE Fryes. They will last you a million years. Which style did you get?

Mama June said...

@amber-the Engineer 8R dark brown. I bought them from macy's online and used a 20% off coupon-couldn't pass it up! :) I'm very fond of the Campus too....and the Harness.

@Barton, I wish we were neighbors! YUM to all that bread!

Congratulations and well wishes to the Mommy's-to-be!

Best present ever: jewelry -nothing spectacular- received from Mom on Xmas '84. She died 6 months later. That jewelry was stolen in 2001 in an apartment invasion.

Best present this year: a fleece Onesie from my bestie. I love love love it!! So do my kitties. My Meniere's is in full-gear this month so I'm gonna live in it.

Worst present this year: boyfriend swore up and down the cookie bars he brought home from brother's house had no peanuts. :( Had a few scary moments this morning but situation was resolved...obviously since I'm able to post again.

southernbelle said...

Hmm, best present was probably my iPad from my father in law last year.

Even better present was coming home Christmas night to find out our dog had her puppies 11 of them :).

Last Xmas my b/f gave me an iPad. Love it. A couple of years ago one of my brothers gave me a Garmin GPS. I love that thing. I am directionally challenged and don't know what I would do without it.

Those who read about my mom being in the hospital with liver failure on here a few weeks back didn't learn that she passed away on the 8th, so Christmas pretty much sucked this year.

However, my youngest niece who is 3 has been saying for over six months she wanted the Fisher Price Imaginext Batcave (she's a girlie girl but loves super heroes). Anyone who asked her what she wanted for Christmas was told the same thing "a Batcave".

Four months ago I bought it for her and had it put up. I told her six year old sister and we came up with a plan.

Christmas Eve they are here and we open every present under the tree and no batcave. She's not upset but you can tell she was wanti9ng something else. The oldest says she has to go to the bathroom and comes back in the den and says "Uncle Chris, what's that present in your room?" (She knew, she was just playing her part) So I tell them I'm getting forgetful in my old age and ask them to bring it in the den.

They bring it in and the youngest thinks it's something for my Dad. I tell her, "No, Myzie. That's for you". She rips into the paper and screams out "THE BATCAVE!!!!!!" Then goes and gives everyone a hug and a kiss while singng "I got my Batcave". Her Dad (my brother) and our Dad says "No, that's from Uncle Chris". Then she runs to me and kisses me for what felt like forever.

If you've ever seen the "N64 Kid" video it was just like that.

But since Mom passed so recently, that moment of my nieces pure joy made us all happy for the rest of the day. I'm sure Mom would've liked that.

My Fiancé bought me tickets to see Les Miserables (play) this year. I'd been saying how badly i wanted to go, but he hates musical theatre so i thought there was no way in hell. I opened up my present and it was the book, and on the inside cover he wrote for me to open it to our anniversary date, and there was the tickets! im so excited!!

Karen said...

@Lee Tanner, I *loved* the elevator. I didn't do murder mysteries (jealous), but I based my Barbies off of my favorite book characters from The Baby-Sitters Club and then kept very detailed family trees denoting their lineage as I got tired with one generation and moved on to the next.

I think this is why I love Sims 2 so much--it's a virtual dollhouse.

Karen said...

@Jeneral and Patricia, congrats on the babies!!!!

@Rowdy, that's an awesome story. Your niece will probably post somewhere in 20 years about the time she got the batcave for Christmas. :)

White lilly said...

@RowdyRodimus, I'm so sorry for your loss, I can only imagine how difficult that must've been. I'm glad at least all the family that I joyful moment with the kids :)
I agree with Karen, maybe one day she'll share somewhere how awesome was to get her batcave :)))

@Rowdy...I'm so very sorry for your loss. That's a wonderful story about your niece and the bat-cave! I adore my nieces and had the pleasure of talking to my great-niece a little while ago: she is 6 and is my littlest booger!

Eeekalicious said...

@Jeneral, what a wonderful Christmas present... @Me and @Chilie sorry you are having bad anniversary memories. @Chilie Been there, done that - nothing more rotten than workplace bullies, especially in a high stress place like a restaurant. I had a bad one at a mapping company I worked at - usually they are just jealous of something (they think that you) have.

@Rowdy So very sorry to hear of your loss. I've lost both and it is hard. Even when it is expected after long-term illnesses it's hard, bc it's as if you have lost them already several times.

It sounds like your next generation is full of love, though and are helping mend your heart. Children help remind us of the things that matter, because they give so much more than they take, don't they?

The best toy I ever got was a Hot Wheels set when I was a little girl maybe 8 or 10. It had a powerhouse that the cars would go through. I didn't think I would get it bc it was a boys' toy, but my parents must have talked about it and given in.

Best thing I ever got was a stuffed animal when I was 6. He's teddy bear-shaped, but doesn't have ears so I'm not sure what animal he's supposed to be, and he has long yellow fur. To this day, he's still my best friend!

Speaking of best friends... Christmas is a pretty terrible time of year for me. The past several years I've spent them literally alone; my family aren't nearby and everyone else always has plans. I'll sometimes get the pity "hey, when I'm done with the presents and the awesome meal and all the Christmas fun, we can go get a coffee around midnight."

I know it's not about that stuff, it's just the sitting home by myself and seeing all my friends online talking about their fun... it's painful.

Sunny said...

@Zeeky
I'm still here! Gosh, that totally sucks that your friends aren't extending an invitation. My sister in law always invites friends who don't have local family to our gatherings.

When my family moved and I wasn't seeing anyone, we would do a girlfriends Thanksgiving the day before. Could you put together a fun "friends" Christmasy get- together the day before or day of? I bet you would have a blast (and no family drama to deal with!)

Regardless, a warm Christmas hug from San Diego to you :)

The best gift I ever received was the day after Christmas, 2009. Husband and I were across the country, visiting my parents in Philadelphia for the holiday, and since Husband (Boyfriend at the time) had never been there before, we planned a sightseeing/date night in the city the day after Christmas. It ended with us going to my favorite restaurant, a little hole-in-the-wall, family-run Italian place where the food is amazing and the wait staff sings old Sinatra and opera songs while the grandma plays the piano. Very romantic and intimate place. At the end of the meal, after the other patrons had left, Husband pulls out my gift: he had made a little scrapbook of our time together. The last page was a written "declaration", in the style of the Declaration of Independence (complete with his signature on the bottom), asking me to marry him. I am obsessed with American History, so it just showed how well he knew me, plus the thought and effort he put into the whole thing really blew me away.

@Chilie and @Rowdy, what great stories! Thanks for sharing!

Congratulations to @Jeneral and @Patricia!

@Zeek, maybe we CDaNers can be your surrogate family?

The best gift I got this year wss the ability to buy some real gifts for everyone (like warm winter coats for my nieces and nephews). It has been a few years since we've had enough spending money to do this, but my husband is doing well in his job and has continued his pledge to not drink.
This is also the first year in a few that he hasn't been ashamed to accompany me to the family gatherings. Things aren't perfect, but they are much, much better than they have been in a long time.
