Former Beatles Frontman - Tony Sheridan Has Died
Back in 1961 and 1962 Sheridan and the Beatles recorded nine songs together under the name Tony Sheridan and the Beat Brothers. Sheridan sang seven of them -- “My Bonnie,” “The Saints,” “Why (Can’t You Love Me Again),” “Nobody’s Child,” “Take Out Some Insurance On Me, Baby,” “Sweet Georgia Brown” and “Swanee River.” The other two tracks were Beatles performances -- “Cry for a Shadow,” an instrumental by Lennon and Harrison, and “Ain’t She Sweet,” sung by Lennon.
When Beatles fans heard the record it set the stage for them to get their own recording contract and the rest is history.

I'd heard about their first drummer Pete Best, but never knew the original group had a fifth member and frontman at that. Holy Beatles Batman!

Sheridan wasn't really their frontman. At the time he was a popular singer in his own right, and he hired the Beatles as his backup band. A small point, I know.
@AndrewBW - exactly. They were his backup band, not the other way around. He was much more popular than they were at the time.
I probaly know, embarrassingly, more about the beatles than anyone should, but i didnt either know that or remember. I thought john sang on 'my Bonnie". This bears checking out!
IMO the real fifth Beatle was George Martin, who is still alive, bless his heart.
