Lead Detective In Oscar Pistorius Case Charged With 7 Counts Of Attempted Murder

If yesterday's shenanigans didn't make you think that Oscar Pistorius is going to get away with murder, then today will probably get you there. The lead detective in the case is going to trial in the spring and is facing 7 counts of attempted murder. Prosecutors said they had no idea. Umm, they are prosecuting that case too. Are there that many police officers facing 7 counts of attempted murder that you can lose track? This of course makes the police officer look untrustworthy and this guy is going to get away with murder and get right back to what he was doing with no punishment and will probably just be more careful when he beats his future girlfriends and he will have future girlfriends who will totally believe he was innocent and would never end up dead inside a bathroom.

The key is, that anyone charged with a FELONY, especially 7 attempted murders--The administration might have wanted to put him on 'leave', until his trial(s) shake(s) out.

Are they so short-handed that they couldn't spare him? I don't get it.

It has nothing to do with the facts of Reeva's murder, by Oscar.

Well this just keeps getting better and better... What a mess.

I think they are saying that the evidence the prosecuter collected could be tossed out! This is shaping up to be to OJ case of South Africa.

Is it going to come out next that the detective and Oscar are long-time drinking buddies who grew up going to camp together and were in the same fraternity? FFS.

Oh SHIT, is going to get off ?

Latest updates say he was removed from the case.

The article I read on CNN said that this officer wasn't going to be charged with any crime, so he was still working. I call "money talks" shenanigans on this deal. Not that the officer shouldn't have been charged initially (DUI, then fired seven times on a van??), but that the charges are coming up now, now that Officer Bad Decision-Maker is on Oscar's case.

Don't forget, this is South Africa. Apartheid only ended 20 years ago, and they have one of the highest rates of sexual violence toward women. I had to go to a hunting tradeshow once (long story), and met a few South African men. Some were quite nice, and others were blatantly racist and homophobic and it would not surprise me in the least if they were wifebeaters. It's a whole different culture over there

This has to do with an incident in October 2011 when Botha and two other police officers fired at a minibus they were trying to stop. Charges were initially dropped, but were reinstated by the Director of Public Prosecutions on the same day that Botha appeared in court to oppose Pistorius' bail application.

This stinks to high political heaven.

This cop was an embarrassment, so it's probably for the best that he was removed from the case.

Yesterday on the stand, under cross examination, he admitted the following:

1) he didn't wear shoe coverings while walking through the crime scene

2)) missed a bullet casing (found in the toilet)

3) totally miscalculated the distance from the witnesses home to Oscars' (the witness who said he heard fighting) by double

Not to take away from what Oscar did, but this seems like very shoddy police work.

Also, Oscar's friends/family were able to remove bullets that were in a safe or drawer that the police not only didn't remove, but didn't photograph either, so technically, they can no longer prove that they were actually there.

auntliddy said...

First of all, primo info, surfer!!!!!! This has shades of oj sll over the place in terms of shoddy police work. Remember with oj, there was missing blood., no chain of command transporting evidence- all shite that makes it hard to convict someone. Guess oscar's case heading in same direction.

After reading all this, SA is another country you could not pay me to visit.

I disagree that this helps Pistorius in any way. If the lead cop investigating his case is being tried for attempted murder, then all his statements about there being no evidence of murder in the Pistorius case mean absolutely nothing.

Kerrimoo said...

Oh, welcome to our world. It's turning into a complete bloody sideshow. For the record, the charges against the cop (Botha) were reinstated two weeks ago, but were only uncovered by Eyewitness News (ewn.co.za) reporters yesterday, and when confronted about it, the police had to concede that indeed there were charges of attempted murder. He had not been suspended - no surprise there. Our former two Police Commissioners are criminals. Look it up: Google Jackie Selebi and Bheki Cele.

Now the cops have dumped Botha off the case, and are including a retired detective, Piet Byleveld on their investigating team. He's lauded as a huge hero for solving some difficult crimes ... but is also a wee bit dodgy (alleged associations with organised crime). The circus continues. My opinion is that Oscar shot to kill someone, but he really didn't think it was Reeva. I am now donning my fireproof suit for the flames I expect from CDaN readers. Fire away.

@SusanB ... it's truly a wonderful country, beautiful, rugged and a bit tough, and many of us live well here. Please don't be put off by this crap - SA is despite all the bad press, a fab place to visit for a holiday. Google Cape Town or Kruger Park as tourist destinations - nothing like them in the whole wide world.

OneGirlRevolution said...

Me too, Kerrimoo.

Most of what the public knows is speculation, conjecture and supposition all wrapped up in the fascination of seeing heroes fall.

For instance, the domestic incidents...maybe I'm not reading enough about this but as far as I can tell, the only time police were called, the girl (a friend) had been drunk and as he was pushing her out his door something fell on her. He was arrested but the girl later refused to press charges. Then there was the mother who was glad her daughter "escaped". How do those to things make him a ragaholic woman beater. Conveniently, the long term girlfriend who said he was great and never showed any signs of violence, is brushed aside. Even the father said he doesn't hate Pistorious.

I'm not even saying he's not guilty. I'm saying none of us know...certainly at this point.

But the press sure has done a good job sensatuonalizing everything and making sure that if he is, indeed, not guilty, that he will forever already have been condemned in the public eye.

Tyler said...

@Kerrimoo, no flames but if you're correct, Oscar should be banned from owning a gun for life because he's too impulsive and irresponsible, or put in a way I hate using but will in this case, too damn stupid. His 'mistake', if that's what it was, is still criminal. He should be charged with negligent manslaughter, or whatever your equivalent is over there.

In this case...
Make sure you shut the bathroom door first! O_o

Tyler said...

@Kerrimoo, I do have a serious question though. He heard nothing to alarm him since there was no break-in, and Reeva was staying in the master suite with him, so why on Earth would he automatically assume Reeva wasn't the person in the bathroom? Thanks.

Kerrimoo said...

I've been watching the SA media as well as CNN, Sky and BBC, and Sky in particular seems hell-bent on vilifying him. I am trying my best to be objective (even though, as stated previously, I adore Oscar). I don't want him to be guilty of a heinous crime, but if he is, he is. I just want him to have a fair trial, and for the truth to prevail. So much absolute rubbish is being put out by the media to sensationalise the story, that people are finding it difficult to separate fact from conjecture and horribly, are coming to conclusions based on all this shit that's being put out.

Oh, the story about him threatening an former 'soccer star'. That person is called Mark Bachelor - he is a whole nother level of arsehole/thug who was chucked off our local sports channel because of his violence/beating innocent people up at clubs. Please, please do not take any of these allegations from people against Oscar at face value ... there is an undercurrent and some history.

Plus - Reeva was a beautiful young lady, and I am horrified and saddened by her killing. But she, sadly, was part of a group of beautiful young model types who set their sights on snagging sucessful sportsmen. Nipping back ad forth between them ntil they get te best catch. Apparently she was also flirting with a successful rugby player as well as Oscar. Tragic, but true. All that testosterone and alpha-male-ism is going to end in tears. Or death.

Jazzy said...

Yep, another OJ. However, I still think his career outside of SA is over. RIP Reeva :(

Kerrimoo said...

@Phoenix ... honey, you don't live here. Any strange noise in your house could mean that there are people inside who wish to do you terrible harm. And I mean, vicious, brutal, torture harm. Having said that, Oscar is clearly gun-ho (bad pun) and should never be allowed to own weapons again. I do not own a gun -I refuse to - because there is a very strong possibility that I might use it inappropriately upon hearing noises in the night. We have a big ass knife next to the bed, and a big ass iron rod next to the bedroom door. ALWAYS. Just in case. I do not want to be tortured with a hot iron and boiling water to reveal where my 'riches' (don't have any) are.

On another tragic note - my next door neighbour was killed by a spider bite on Tuesday. Tragically, this is a true story.

Scuse me, CDaNers ... having a shitty week.

OneGirlRevolution said...

@Kerrimoo, I'm so sorry about your neighbor.

Tyler said...

@Kerrimoo, thank you very much and hope your week improves quickly. Even if your theory is correct, I just can't imagine anyone in Oscar's shoes not confirming that his girlfriend wasn't in the bathroom before firing. He is a piece of work regardless of what the real story is.

Kerrimoo said...

@Phoenix ... yeah, I know. Makes me sad. Wish he hadn't have done it. But he did. And that poor girl is dead. Inexcusable.

Was or was not Reeva beaten with a cricket bat?

I know there were reports that Oscar "may have" beaten her, but have there been any definitive reports released?

SusanB said...

@kerrimoo - I want to apologize, I didn't mean to insult your country (I know how annoyed I get at the America bashers here). I have heard it's lovely, but the people problems just seem kind of overwhelming right now.

As for this case, all I know is that when I go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, I close the door but I certainly feel no need to lock it. So if the bathroom door was locked, sounds like she was hiding from him. Unless you have non-family or small children in the house (who don't know a closed door means you knock on it) why would you bother to lock the door?

OneGirlRevolution said...

@Mango

No. They found a cricket bat with some blood on it. I think he said he used it to break down the door when he realized she wasn't in bed. Tabloids have reported that her skull was crushed with the bat but neither police nor the court have reported that to b so.

Thepolice"steroids" they found have actually never been tested and they have no idea what title is (I read some where that it may be some herbal/natural concoction that OP has said he takes.

OneGirlRevolution said...

Damn phone...

The police were forced to admit that the "steroids" they found...

OneGirlRevolution said...

Gah!

Not "title is"... rather, " it is" (meaning the supposed steroids)

Tyler said...

@SusanB.. "if the bathroom door was locked, sounds like she was hiding from him."

Excellent point. Why would she lock his bathroom door if there were only the two of them? The number of unusual 'coincidences' which all managed the happen at the same time are what makes it so hard to comprehend Oscar's version of events.

Anonymous said...

After growing up with a family that would, like the people in that wilderness movie with Paul Rudd and JA, all four come in and talk to you when you are on the toliet, I lock the bathroom door at all times, even if I am the only person in the house. But, that's obviously not the norm...

Sydney21221 said...

I don't buy that it was an innocent mistake and not premeditated murder. There are just too many things in Oscar's account which don't make any sense.

It also saddens me that Reeva is now being portrayed as some kind of fame hungry, social climbing sport groupie who caused this situation, by allegedly flirting with another man.

Even if she was flirting, so what? Does that really excuse and justify her being murdered?

Zeeky_Boogy_Doog said...

Kerimoo, I've always wanted to go to Cape Town. I wanna see the penguins there!

But... I don't think it's fair of you to categorise the victim or her peers as trying to snag a successful guy. That's just human nature... men try to get the best girl, women try to get the best guy. We all have different standards of course, of what that amount is, but to say she's out looking for a sportsguy makes her sound like a groupie, it takes away her own successes.

Li said...

@Kerimoo,
I'm curious about something, Oscar said in his statement that he screamed at the intruders before shooting.

Do you think something was wrong with Reeva (sick or something) at the time that's why she didn't respond?

__-__=__ said...

kerimoo - no park or city would ever make me want to go to a place where women are routinely raped and beaten. The entire continent of Africa will never see a dime of my money. Other places in this world also - India, Afghanistan. I vote with my dollar. There are many, many beautiful places in this world where women are welcomed. The world is changing.

FWIW, the lead investigator was with 2 other cops a few years back and they were tailing a murder suspect and only shot at the vehicles tires to try and stop the car. How it was told that they were drunk and that became "attempted murder", I don't know. Those charges were dropped and only recently brought up again, conveniently. I just discovered how closely my friends are actually tied to this case and let's just say the media is doing a really shitty job of getting the facts straight.
