Blind Items Revealed

October 4, 2012

What actress who is finally starting to get movie roles again, really needs to remember to drink her coffee or something in the morning. When she doesn't she is out of control. The one time big thing in Hollywood who had one of the biggest fastest drop offs ever after an embarrassing incident is now trying to get back up to B lost although she still does have A list name recognition. On set this week she has been yelling at people non-stop. Oh, and throwing enough things to earn a Naomi Campbell trophy. Drink handed to her and it was wrong? Threw it on the ground. Makeup not right? Threw lipstick at makeup artist. People talking and smiling. "Why don't you shut the f**k up. People are trying to concentrate here."

Winona Ryder

I always thought she looked the part.

Somewhere, on a remote island in the Caribbean, Mr. Depp emerged briefly from his absinthe-filtered haze, saw this BI reveal, and chuckled to himself, "heh heh...bullet safely dodged."

Doesn't seem like she's really into making movies anymore, so why not just enjoy her retirement.

Man, Winona is one of my girl crushes and this makes me kind of sad. Winona, don't be an asshole!!

Astrid said...

This does not surprise me, but it makes me a bit sad.

Sad Face. I loved her so much growing up.

I've never really understood all the fuss over Winona Ryder, and now even less so...

TracySwingKid said...

Aw! I agree with Reese. I LOVE Winona. This makes me very sad.

Jenn said...

She always looked like Lucas Haas to me, a whinier version, if possible. I only liked her on Heathers.

Its just U said...

@Cee Kay me neither. She is mediocre at best. She plays everything the same way.
I love Bram Stokers Dracula but she was the worst thing in it, and that includes Keanu Reeves.

Blondie! said...

Sad. I loved her in Beetlejuice--actually when I saw the movie, I wanted her wardrobe.
You'd think if you've crashed as she did, she'd keep her head and realize that she's got to prove herself over and over again.

Anonymous said...

Jeezus! What a spoiled brat. Just goes to show money, fame and attention don't mean much. I never LOVED her, just thought she was a decent actress, but then watched her in some more challenging roles, like Bram Stokers' Dracula opposite Keanu Reeves (Keanu's and her scenes were painful) and Gary Oldman, God he was hot in that movie, so romantic(when not in Dracula get ups. He nailed the acting, she just did her usual scared puppy backed against a wall eyes.

Comments on the original are pretty entertaining. I thought Rom was exclusively dedicated to Debra Messing. Guess she works for Winona too.

@Comma, just read your comment to the Mister. He lost it laughing. Bravo sir/madam, bravo.

Oh my!

Blondie! said...

@Anna Nonymous-- Oh gawd, Gary Oldman was hawt, hawt, hawt in that movie.
When he died, I cried my eyes out--so redic, but he was too damn sexy.
Sorry, I now have "I'm too sexy.." in my head.

I hope it is a good one!!! ;)

She sucked so much ASS in Dracula she almost ruined the entire movie. Thank the gods for Gary Oldman and his skills otherwise my favorite film would've never been my favorite film. Eee gads. I'm glad she lost her fame. This blind just proves her persona matches her craptastic acting abilities.

Evil Kumquat said...

She still would have made a better Mary Corleone than Sofia Coppola, which is more an indictment on the latter's REALLY bad acting skills.

I always liked her myself - Beetlejuice, Heathers, Girl Interrupted. Even her Black Swan character. Winona, get your act together!

Last week, peering through Adderall twitching eyes, & through the thick, hanging smoke of her Marlboro, Wino sees Johnny Depp on Nickleodeon's Kid Choice Awards, and "Holy shit, is that my leather braided belt and hemp necklace from 1992, & mom's fancy dress scarf, the one she used to jazz up all black Donna Karan's Bizzness Causual pantsuits? Dodged a bullet, with that desiccated human meat jerky!"

Jason Blue Eyes said...

Sofia Coppola was 18 at the time and she had a morning's notice before she was cast after Winona had to abruptly drop out due to Doctor's orders. She wasn't AS BAD as history dictates she was. Hell, that whole movie is rather amazing and powerful. It's gotten an unfair rap over the last 22 years.

Maybe somebody in the industry can writer a Reality Bites sequel for Winona? I'm sure Ben Stiller has the clout to get it made.

I want a sequel!!! I want a sequel!!!

Lol, di butler!

It may have been bitchy for Goop to steal the Shakespeare in Love script from Wino, but I'm glad she did. Ryder is horrible at doing accents, and would've made a joke out of that character. I do like some of her movies, but really, she isn't a great actress. Her scenes in Dracula were painful.

She was always one of my favorites, I think she is very talented and at one point the most beautiful actress (in my opinion ) to ever be on screen or walk a red carpet. But she has changed. The drugs she relies on to be a some-what functioning person has fucked her beautiful eyes up and she now appears to be a shell of her former self. I also cant bear with her self-entitled bitchiness and Lilo like behavioral issues. and I am not talking about her shoplifting either. Remember that cosmo blind article about "bitchy girl" crazy ass stuff revealed to be her. She likes to portray herself as some socialist humanitarian intellectual but I think it was all an act by her publicists to make her some sorta "Gen x" icon. People forget how truly famous she was though. She was THE IT girl for over a decade.

OneGirlRevolution said...

I dunno, I think she was the Kristen Stewart of the early 90s.

This a sad reveal! I remember her in Girl, Interrupted. She was great in it. Also remember her donating mobey to finding a missing girl in Petalyma, CA. Also a big thanks to the CDAN' ers the orher day for the support during my nasty divorce from abusive ex. Things are going slightly better! Have a Happy Easter everyone!

Haha I love reality bites so much. The sequel would def look more like This is 40 though...Ethan Hawke's character would def be bald with a beer gut.

Deryn said...

I always thought her best role was "The Age of Innocence". Maybe because it was the most like her (it seems). Puppy-dog eyes in the front, evil scheming witch in the back.

Scallywag said...

I didn't realize it was her in Black Swan until the credits. I guess because she didn't look like a doily.

I think she's gorgeous and like a lot of her movies. Heathers, Beetljuice and Reality Bites but agree her acting is somewhat overrated and does best when she's kind of playing herself.
As pretty as she is I've always believed she's a major bitch.

Krissie said...

I've always heard she was rude. I know everyone says her career ended because of that shoplifting incident, but I don't think that was ever the real reason. I think it was a good excuse not to hire her when no one wanted to work with her anyways.

Jason, I want a sequel to The Breakfast Club. It would have to be a school anniversary as they were in different years. That would be an awesome Your Turn - sequels & how they should be done, Hollywood may even listen.

Bridget said...

Winona Ryder was THE 90s actress, an she really was great in a lot of movies, but she also started out at like 13 or 14. For the last decade or so she just looks like Hollywood sucked the life out of her, and it makes me really sad.

Feral - A Breakfast Club movie without John Hughes writing it would be too sad.

Everybody involved in Reality Bites is still active - even Andy Dick is amazingly, still alive.

I agree wtih Deryn, she was pretty good in Age of Innocence.
I remember this BI but don't remember who the popular guesses were.

Jason, my impression watching Godfather III in the theater (I haven't revisited it since) was that it was a cynical paint by numbers remake of all the powerful parts of I, II and both. Killing all your enemies while a family religious ceremony takes place? Check. The power wanes the third time you see it. And it doesn't diminish Sofia Coppola's standing as one of the great director/auteurs of her generation to say that she was out of her depth as an actress in Godfather III. That's her Dad's fault, not her's. His hubris in those days knew no bounds. Watch the making-of documentary on the "One From The Heart" bluray. He was full scale megalomaniacally delusional by the time he was betting the farm on that film and his studio. Declaring his little girl a major movie star didn't make it so.

@pugglewug....agreed. I liked gwynnie in Shakespeare in love. Can't imagine Winona in it. If u are an up and commer in any industry u need to watch your back. Leaving That script on the coffee table was just stupid.

Sorry, Sofia was awful in Godfather III, pretty much as bad as people say. I always thought she was lovely in the film though, love her features and that disgustingly gorgeous head of hair.

While that movie was the start of Al Pacino's descent in to overacting, the scene on the opera steps makes me bawl every time I see it.

Lazy - Yeah, I have watched that documentary. It was not the first time Francis did this - he put up his home and assets while filming Apocalypse Now as well. But he was taking chances. Did he believe in his own hype? Yes. Did he have a temper? Yes? Did he gamble? Yes. Did he trust the wrong people (Robert Evans) - Yes.

I look at it like this - Godfather III was going to happen with or without Francis or Mario Puzo. At one point Paramount was close to signing a deal to have Sylvester Stallone not just star in it, but write and direct it as well. Seriously! It almost happened. After The One From The heart debacle Francis made some smaller movies (The Outsiders, Rumble Fish) that remain to this day pretty good films. When Peggy Sue Got Married was released in '86, it helped Francis regain some clout - from there he made Tucker in 1988. None of these movies were big enough box office hits to clear his debt from the collapse of his studio Zoetrope and he needed a hit movie to get out of it. This is when he decided to make the third Godfather - which was going to happen with or without him. It was a box office disappointment at the time and it took him making Dracula two years (which was a huge box office hit) before his debts were paid off. Now, having put 18 year old Sofia in that situation a few years earlier - with no training or experience was indeed a wrong decision. At the time though, Paramount was really watching the costs of this production closely and losing Winona was a blow that they could not afford. Seeing as how this was the studio that refused to pay Robert Duvall what he wanted to reprise the role of Tom Hagan for the third film it's no surprise. From what I understand Paramount wasn't willing to shut production down for a few weeks while Francis looked for another actress to fill Winona's part. I believe Madeline Stowe was briefly considered but she was unavailable. Sofia was cast in a pinch. But, yeah - the critics were vicious. God, Can you Imagine what it would have been like if the internet was around during that time?

Winona was "THE IT GIRL" of the 90s. I loved her in Mermaids and Beetlejuice, which she did when she was like 15, is hysterical! Maybe it's possible she is dealing with some sort of bi-polar/manic depressive type issues. Would make sense given her behavior. I never heard anything back when she was popular about her being difficult to work with.

Omg Anna I just read yours and Just Us comments after I wrote my own " Winona ruined Dracula " comment - so yes! She was awful in Dracula and Oldman.. Oy Vay his role gets my toes curled to this day and I saw this in the theatres when it came out a million years ago! I'm not an actress but I would've killed for that role! In the film house , with the wolf, right when she starts to realize who he is?! Holy hell that was intense and she was like a .. Wet match:( useless

Jazzy said...

I'm sorry, but I still want her and Johnny back together. Neither one was the same after their break up. Winona Forever!!!!!

I agree wi Lola. Winona Horowitz is the KStew of her time, she just had better roles- mermaids and beetle juice played to her sullen 90s grunge. She was good in Lucas, but it was an easy part, and she has an odd way of speaking she cant leave behind, like Drew. I never understood the hype, other than people like a fairy tale of ugly duckling gone pretty. Well, that took a bucket of surgery- more than one nose job, excellent breat implants, chin, cheek and eye tweak. Yes, she offered a money reward for the Polly Class search, but if I remember right, it not a great sum, $200k (though still very appreciated), and she didn't pay it. Polly was found murdered by that sick murther fuk painter. And Winona helped right after the publicity for the shoplifting arrest and before trial, so many felt it was a publicity stunt. Regardless, the girl has issues, she is a one trick pony who is not interesting, because she doesn't appear mysterious anymore, she looks empty. The veil lifted revealed a very troubled, very sick addict with mental problems. The poster who worked with her while dazed and hazed caught a good cycle. This blind is talking the other half of her, when off meds, in an episode or abusing drugs again (and again and again and again). Don't forget that when she was arrested with box cutters, she had a pharmacy full of meds in her purse that she had no scripts for. Oxy was one and she had bottles. All the stores knew she shoplifted. All of them. It was a joke. Farrah used to too, but she had a handler follow with credit card and was so darn sweet. Winona was just laughably brazen and entitled.

Same here LOVE the wino n the jonh, i want n need the together !! ..., on a serious true story notes my coworker was in a fender bender with her a few years ago she said she was nothing but nice gave her a hug bcs my friend was start stucked paid to fix her car with out insurance getting involved ( even thou it was coworkers fault) and sign an autograph pic. True story

PS----she volunteered the money and her time on the Polly case waaaaay before her shoplifting----in the early 90s----and 200 grand was and is a hell of a lot of money----she never made Julia Roberts type salaries. In addition, the Klaas family went to trial with her for the shoplifting and spoke very highly of her. I think deep-down inside she is a decent person but her mental issues can make her a little evil to us common folk and that I can't stand.

Henriette said...

Andy Garcia was HOT in Godfather III that's all I liked. A mannequin could have done a better job than Sofia Coppala. Was she looking at cue cards?

Wanna Ride Her smelled up Dracula with Keanu Reeves. They both couldn't keep their accents straight. Gary Oldman was the best! I love all the English actors Sadie Frost, Tony Hopkins, and Gary Oldman.

PS said...

Derek- I am sorry - you are right. I remembered wrong. I think the issue was that Winona's lawyers brought her having done that up in her defense of her shoplifting and the sentencing, and the prosecution was angry, because it was irrelelvant to whether she committed the crimes of which she was accused (shoplifting, meds). I just remember them taking issue, and her throwing her mouth open in outrage that they said bringing that up demonstrates a lack of sincerity. I think she is a sad, troubled person, and I certain,y don't wish her ill. I hope she gets help, and I hope she stops treating people badly when she is off meds or on a cycle or back to abusing drugs.

Unknown said...

PS---yeah totally cool----I use to get really defensive over this chick,(my friends use to mock me about my enthusiasm about her) but sorta gave-up after I heard stories (not just from gossip blogs, but actual people I know who have met her). I think think live everyone she has redeemable qualities and bad ones----I think she is ill and the lows are pretty bad. She is always whacked out on Quaalude so its hard to say. However, if I was in her position at court yeah I would want the lawyer to bring something up about past charity work to paint a prettier picture. I dont remember the last time a celeb has done something so charitable and not just for publicity etc. (This was before the Internet) Angelina wants to save the world and Gwenyth wants to save the over-privileged---but I thought it was cool she was doing something grassroots because she identified with the young girl....
