Frank Langella Gave Barbara Walters Chicken Pox

Yesterday Barbara Walters made her triumphant return to The View and all of her minions took time out to kiss her ring and then she shared the story of how she got chicken pox. She said she got it from a well known actor. You have to remember to read this using Barbara's accent. He kissed her on the cheek. They hugged. They found a corner of the party where he has his way with her. OK, so not that last part, but would have been a great story to hear her say early in the morning. People would have dropped their coffee for sure. Barbara says that the actor had shingles but didn't know it and the next thing you know Barbara had chicken pox. I can't believe she never got it her whole life. She would not say who gave it to her, but The NY Daily News says they have learned it was Frank Langella.

Someone tweet Andy Cohen! He was trying to figure out who it was on WWHL last night. I forgot shingles and chicken pox are the same virus.
My 23 year old niece had shingles in high school, I felt so bad for her its supposed to be very painful.

When my 1st born was 6 months old I developed shingles and she developed chicken pox. I spent Christmas morning in the ER in horrible pain. My daughters case was mild thankfully. As a 1st time mother I was freaking out that I had gave her chicken pox. Will never forget it.
My father is in his late 60's and has never had chicken pox.

I've broken out in shingles 3 different times. The burning and pain you feel is indescribable. The first time it happened, I came back from a walk during my lunch break and my ass started burning. Ironically I was working in a dr's office at the time. I was mortified to show him my behind though. I wanted to die on so many levels.

I got shingles after the births of my kids and it is damn painful! Takes forever to heal, too.

My husband got shingles in January, my son got chicken pox, which he had already had as a baby, a few weeks later and then low and behold I GOT chicken pox!! 40 years old and I had chicken pox!

The pain my hubby was in was awful, I wouldn't wish shingles on my worst enemy.

I never had the chicken pox and it scares the crap out of me. I knew someone whose wife died from pneumonia related to having chicken pox as an adult. I got the vaccine and was tested for antibodies later and didn't have them. I got a second vaccine so we'll see how that has held up. Argh!

On another note, Frank Langella was a hot dracula.

I'm 62 years old and still have scars on my hip from where my diaper rubbed against my pox sores when I had the chicken pox at age 13 months. And the scar is HUGE! My dad had shingles (exposed to his grandson who had chicken pox) and never completely recovered from it. I have got to get that vaccine for shingles.

Am I the only one who read this news about a month ago?!? Granted, it wasn't the Daily Mail, probably the National Enquirer though...lol

I got chicken pox last year at 30. It was the worst thing ever (and I've had meningitis before). I thought I was going to die. It wasn't the itching that killed me, I was just SO SICK. I could hold my hand about a foot away from my head and feel the heat coming off my head. Awful. I feel for Barbara, it's the WORST.

I got shingles when my daughter was a year old and gave her a good case of chicken pox. I've had them 3 times since, including a current breakout. Not so much pain as itching. Ugh. My insurance won't pay for the vaccine til I'm 60 and it's really expensive.

Here's the thing about shingles causing chicken pox: Your shingles can't give chicken pox to someone unless you (the shingled) are in the acute phase and that other person has contact with your lesions. Just being close won't do it. Shingles-to-chickenpox happens only if the well person touches the sick persons outbreak area. Hmmm... I suppose if Frank had it on his back and Barbara rubbed his back (in a friendly, hugging way) it could transmit the virus through his shirt.

I got shingles in 2008. Bad. I was so miserable, I set out to learn everything about it I could, right down to talking to someone at the CDC (two someones). My current primary care doctor told me I probably know more about it than most docs.

When I had it the first time, I thought, "There are people I like, people I dislike, and people I can't stand, but I can't think of anyone I dislike enough to wish this on them." We don't have the words in English to adequately describe how it feels.

FACT: More than 40% of shingles cases are in people under the age of 45. Don't ever let anyone tell you it's an old person's illness (Merck Pharma will try because they only did clinical trials of their vaccine on people over 60).

Also, if you have a blood relative who had it, that more than doubles the odds you'll get it. If an immediate family member had it (grandparent, parent, sibling or child), that more than quadruples your likelihood of getting shingles. Most people have no idea what the early symptoms are--or that shingles wipes you out for at least a month.

Stay well, friends!

My maternal grandfather had shingles. I guess I have something to look forward to.

I had chicken pox & have had shingles, a really good case that went from my left armpit, front of my torso (including my genitalia) & across to my right armpit. I must be the luckiest human being on earth because I had no pain or itching.

Izzie said...

@feraltart, you are damn lucky! I'd rather give birth again than have shingles again!

Mine were in my stomach area and it was a deep, burning itch that no amount of drugs could touch. I was breastfeeding at the time, so they couldn't give me the heavy stuff. Worst four weeks (two each time) of my life. I never got the rash, just the pain and itching.

the relationship between Frank L. and Barbara was discussed on the View a ways back. Barbara and Whoopi talked about it on the show as a way of stopping the gossipmongers from speculating about friction between them because Whoopi and Frank Used to date. Whether Whoopi is REALLY/SECRETLY pissed is another story.....

I didn't get the Chicken Pox until I was 16 years old. I can still remeber lying on the couch, watching Young and the Restless during my two-week confinement. I only had about 20 pox, so my dr said it was possible I could get it again. My daughter's paternal grandfather got shingles at 60 because he was exposed to the poxy grandchildren. He'd never had the chicken pox. He had to be hospitalized.

Years ago when I was 21 a coworker, got chicken pox and had the pox in a sensitive area. Her mother made her and ice lollipop to relieve the vaginal discomfort. She told us all about it in excruciating detail with a British accent which made it kind of funny.
