I was thinking Patricia Arquette, but I don't think she counts as mostly television.
This is sad. Do we really need to know this?
The first name to pop into my head is Carrie Fisher, who has not been shy in talking about her electroshock therapy. But Carrie Fisher's not "B-list mostly television", is she?
I hope whoever it is finds their peace–hope the treatment works.
Rosanna Arquette has been mostly tv lately…
I like the Patricia Arquette guess. I've heard she's very odd.
One of the Deschanel sisters?
I'd like to know what the "very drastic procedures" would be. ECT is considered very safe today and it has had a big resurgence lately, especially after Carrie Fisher — our patron saint of bipolar disorder! How I love her! — has talked it up.
And lobotomies are just rarely done anymore.
Finally, most people don't even say "mental institution" anymore. Jeez, Enty…it's not 1965, and this isn't ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST. Learn a little bit about modern mental health, couldja?
Sounds like whoever it is had electric shock therapy. Hope it works and they find peace.
I agree Turkish Taffy, we don't really need or want to know this.
haha O are you going to take the high road this time gals? You "don't need to know"; such vile creatures you people are gossiping here on a daily basis. Use this one holier than thou moment though to feel good about yourself and then continue onto your pathetic lives of gossiping half truths on a site created by a dude who can barely spell. You all know you're kinda dumb, right?
If this person is hearing voices one would assume the person has Schizophrenia. There is medication for this. I'm pretty sure a doctor isn't going to perform some radical treatment when it's treatable through meds.
I though Blake lively. SISTER Robin was Teen Witch. Brother Jason was Rusty in European Vacation. Brother Eric also an actor. But I could be wrong.
Shock Treatments…they've come back into use…
You obviously read this site also. Since your commenting on this post. Guess your kinda dumb to.
Dakota Johnson? Martha Plimpton? Justine Bateman? Candice Bergen? Mariska Hargitay (but the voices would be Fox News)?
@M52799, a girl I work with mentioned it to me, I checked it out and have read for a few days. I mostly find myself here to read how brutally mean and horrible the comments are about people you don't know. And so I felt like dishing a little of your own medicine back at you. Now that I've done that, what are you all doing here? This is your lives? This is what you read about and think about? It makes me feel a weird mixture of sadness and anger.
and it's, "you're".
@Angela, all the media lies, I get it though, you hate Republicans, Fox is a Conservative network, so Fox lies. Name one lie, just one. Exactly. People are dumb.
@Jordan, are you the crazy person or a relative of her? Did you like the shocks? And the pills? Who is talking to you inside your head, a bird, a Sumerian god, Churchill?
Disclaimer: I have all the respect for people who have mental problems (as long as they don't do anything evil), but I haven't it for trolls or idiots.
A. Play nice you two! B. Jordan-You don't like the site, don't read it. C. M5- it's you're and too…
BTW, if anyone wants lies in network, just search for cnn news archive in the last month.Unless you are as much liberal that your stupidity doesn't let you find any.
In a Psych class in college we saw a film of an ect treatment. This was a 1950's era b&w film of a middle aged little man, he was wearing a wife beater, boxers and his socks. They shocked him, he went into seizures. It was just the worst, creepiest thing to watch. You just felt so sorry for him. To me, ect may be having a resurgence but it's definitely drastic. Positive energy to whoever this blind is about.
Oh…don't feed that troll
Hi Jordan! Sounds like you need a hug and a glass of warm milk. Here ya go! Also, just so you know, there are many fine, upstanding and supportive people here who just like to gossip. It doesn't always make sense when they choose to be uptight about some posts but who cares, right? Let's just let everyone be and all will be fine. No sense getting aggravated, it just a waste of your time.
Have a great day!!
Umm I hardly watch fox news but what comes to mind would be Karl Rove and him saying on live tv Romney won? lol. What's my prize?
Possibly its Justine Bateman and (not based on the rating)–Jennifer Aniston.
DANG IT*it's*correction just so I'm not branded dumb!
Well that was fun Enjoy your scapegoating folks.
@Jordan – I've been reading this site and comments for a while though I don't post much. These people are great, they are caring about mental illness, child abuse, etc., and I've only seen the cold side of them when it's a post about someone being an asshole. We all like to gossip (you included) and yes, it's fun to make fun of jerks, but we do care.
i like patricia
Ps I corrected her error as well. However, you missed the second one.. Also if you want to make fun of her, let's discuss your lovely run on sentence. Don't like the site or visitor's, go elsewhere. I hear the interwebs be real big, with tons of sites, maybe even like bigger than super Walmart, like that huge, like your run on fucking sentence. Now run along and go ruin someone else's day, dick.
Shoot, just one quick point to Peter. My Fox News comment was simply based off of people saying they lie when rarely do they ever know what about. CNN recently prematurely claimed they had captured the BB'ing suspect, and they apologized. Karl Rove lost his job by the way because of his comment. Additionally, I plan on this being the end of me and the site, Peter, per your suggestion, however, I felt a moral obligation to point out the poor behavior demonstrated here. It's bullying.
…and most of the trolls this week are brought to you by the letter "J"
Yo! Mismo !!
Aww Peter, you saved the blog! Way to fend off that evil troll! You're my hero Good luck folks, go get some hobbies, learn the guitar or something. Stop talking about other people's lives.
Justine Bateman has had "crazy face" for some time now. Still, I hope it's not her.
You know I don't mind being called names, ABlake? It's actually somewhat heartwarming considering the authors.
ECT is actually not drastic. It's done on an outpatient basis, it only takes a few hours, the client sleeps through it and for a bit afterwards, there's a tiny bit of short-term memory loss but much of that comes back, and then the client goes home. It's not at ALL how it was Back In the Day.
I wonder if some of these trolls are really Enty trying to drum up traffic to the site…
Please, carry on Jordan, this is fun. Seriously! I'm hungover, dipping into some HOD and need could use this distraction.
@MISCHIs there a new Blue Ray Reissue?I love Shock Treatment.Brilliant scathing commentary on reality television thirty years before it's time. One of my guilty pleasures.
Christine, it's not bullying? Just read Syd's comment. What do you call that? I just picked the one I can see, how many are on this entire feed?
@Angela – I'm not sure why you would say that Mariska would be listening to or watching FOX News. She's quite liberal, I would assume, based on her hard-core support of VAWA, among other causes she champions.
I didn't call you a name. I just made the observation that the majority of people trying to 'pee in the pool' so to speak this week had J names. Really, who are we hurting with our comments and speculation? I'm pretty sure everyone who posts has been gossiped about, put down, praised whathaveyou in our lives. I am just hoping that next week the trolls continue the trend and start their names with a K. I suggest Klassy for you.
@Audrey, if people quit talking about/to me, I'll go away. I think Peter figured it out. It's just like Sarah Palin, Liberals never figured out that she's go away if you didn't create her fame by obsessing over your hate for her. Shhhhhhhh
@ Jordan, I'm very liberal, so don't take what I wrote to mean that I agree with your Fox News vs. CNN news spin. That's a much deeper debate than I intend to get into online with a stranger.
I just enjoy watching it when others like you stir up the masses on this blog. It happens every week, and, as a voyeur (obviously since I'm reading a gossip blog) I really enjoy it. It's more fun than a lot of the stuff that goes on in here.
@AKM, I was thinking a lobotomy! But, then again I've watched too many American Horror Story Asylum episodes in a row. Yeah, def wanna know wtf is this procedure that the Entie's speak of.
@TD: OM-total-G, Blake Lively's sister was freaking Louise in Teen Witch? Mind blown. I think I hate Blake less now.
@Peter, just ignore it. Move on babe! There's been many like the one mentioned above. They'll leave after a day or two <3
@Audrey, glad I can amuse. 4 or 5 on 1 frankly is a balance I feel comfortable with. Rarely over the interwebs though, as I've found people become overly confident in this arena. Plus, as Peter so astutely has pointed out, I have a tendency towards run-on's. This website/concept simply strikes me as cruel. Regardless of how secure you feel your targets might be. And for people who I'm sure are against bullying, or at least say so in their real lives, you all seem to jump at the opportunity here. So I said something.
Jordan- Rove was on a short sabbatical but he has been back since that debacle. I agree with your point on the "bullying" but its the internet. Easy to hide behind a computer and say nasty things. Hint- my name isn't peter but my last name happens to be Jordan. See we all have something in common! Ps I think were all guilty of bullying in one form or another. I hope you all have a great day, its Friday ffs!
Well that's good to know annaannnaaa
Well Jordan, what's your guess? All the comments are between you and everyone else, I got lost in the thread.
I'm not above a little gossip myself, that's why I come here. The real news is simply too depressing. This gossip makes me feel like I'm okay, like in the olden days when I'd watch Jerry Springer so I'd see just how good my life really was. For what it's worth.
If you don't talk back to the voices in your head, eventually they go away.
Hope whoever this is in the blind gets better. It's hard enough having problems but having them and being in the public eye must be harder.
Is J back from the other day already??
Man, if you have a problem with the comments on this site, don't read Celebitchy, PerezHilton, DListed, and all the others in existence that I don't visit and don't know the names of.
We haven't seen the last of Jordan. The name will be different, but the 'person' will return.
@Northern Grrl, O it's Patricia Arquette, no doubt. You know it's that bitch (this was a joke).
I apologize for even saying anything. This is me bored at work. I don't condone bullying and you have the right to your opinions. Not fair 5vs1 and the argument is quite ridiculous. I should have not added fuel to fire, this site is solely for entertainment purposes.Just wasting time at work til 5. Then its the wknd, so I apologize and hope everyone has a great weekend!
@FS, moral obligation person… if I see someone beating their wife on the street, I should just not walk near them.
Dude/lady, whatever, I've never come here before and never commented before, and I THINK I probably never will again. Quit the paranoia.
It was meant to just be a comment but I got sucked in.
You get two snaps & a circle from me for that comment Mr. "Peter" Jordan!
@Peter, you're alright dude; in retrospect, I regret my initial comment. No harm done… you're right about the run-on's haha. I apologize for interrupting your forum folks. You may proceed.
@ Jordan – it happens to the best of us. It's kind of addictive.
@Angela – I went right to Martha Plimpton too while reading this blind. Not sure why.
@Audrey, and a fellow Chicagoan in the IT field, I just noticed. Have a nice weekend
LOL. Not even sure what your comment to me is meant to say, but I can assure you I am not paranoid. And, you're still here. No worries if decide not to change your username, I don't think anyone will be bothered by it either way.
I'd rather have ECT than watch televised news, talk programs, etc., but if this interests anyone on the news shows debates, just read a week or two ago, a big thing Pew Research did on which news programs actually showed the most unbiased news vs. opinion shows and Fox beat out CNN and MSNBC by a huge margin. I personally think they all suck, but it was an interesting study…dont get why people need some person to explain world events to them, or form opinions for them. Dayum, we are lazy people!
@ Jordan – where do you live in Chicago? If in the city, what neighborhood?
You do the same, we may be gossips but we are not hypocrites. Most of what you read here is written with a wink or is tongue in cheek, but you meant every barb you threw at anyone reading or commenting here. It doesn't bother me, but you may as well get called on your shit, too.
@Jordan, I will go ahead and apologize for my comment as well. I don't comment a lot but was offended at the we're all dumb comment.
And sorry for my grammatical errors. I never claimed to be a genius.
Love when people criticize us for commenting but must have the box checked for "notify me when there are more comments" or whatever it says (I don't use it often)so they can be sure to reply to anyone who dares respond to them. Yes, Jordan. I'm talking to you.
Thanks. I'm the worst with punctuation and grammer as well. FYI not quite a great example of how the site/forum is generally. It's a gossip site with some truth and some not so much.. People get pretty into it, usually I don't bother commenting on blinds. Comment boards are tricky and I must say you took the attacks quite well. Someone will always have an opposing view but generally It's a battle of wits with someone unarmed. If you enjoy the site, come back! I'm like the only guy on here besides the fake attorney.
I've not researched this, but isn't shock therapy (in its newer form) used for severe depression and not schizophrenia? Another idea I'll throw out – removal of scar tissue from an accident or birth trauma that can lead to seizures/voices? It would be brain surgery to relieve pressure.
@Audrey, Have lived all over, I grew up in the NW burbs, moved to Logan Square after college (I'm 29 now), Logan for 3 years, Lincoln Park for 3 years, and now Lakeview for almost a year. Yourself?
@Sarah, you're right, I did. And I do. It bothers me.
@M52799, no worries, people, myself include, point out spelling/grammatical errors because it makes the target feel intellectually inferior. It's a dumb tactic.
@Peter Now it's FFF, FFS! NSFW
@Anothergrayhare, thanks for solving that for me, I thought it could be me… but wasn't quite positive at this point. I just noticed the box thing as well, thanks.
Born in Marquette Park, SOUTH SIDE! Grew up in southern suburbs, then in Lakeview, now (for the last 15 years) Lincoln Square.
@Audrey, go Sox!
Peter, I don't think you are the only guy here, but I have a lousy memory so I can't give you usernames of the other men.
Jordan, welcome to CDAN. See you next week.
VIP who is that?!! Why doesn't enty supply us with peen pics anymore?
Don't mistake my northern associations to being a cubs fan please. They're just nice neighborhoods as all.
Agreed @ Turkish Taffy…
Ya, but I prefer Wrigley Field. I love a baseball game with my beer. But my father still considers me a traitor.
@Sugar It's Jude Law
@Jordan You're dissing the Cubs?!?!?! IT'S ON!!
@Audrey, that does make you a traitor! Your poor father… If I had a daughter, I'd rather her turn tricks. The weather is amazing here right now, I'm gonna bust outta this taco stand and hit a beer garden.
@FS, I'll probably read your comments from time to time… I hate Mondays, so maybe I'll come back and scapegoat my personal anger out on the rest of you in the form of judgement again. Humans!
Ahh. I didn't recognize him flaccid.
Aww, see that's better. Me and Jordan are now best friends and him and Audrey have a date for a ballgame. It's better when we drop the pitchforks and pickup a drink. Ps you're right about the jabs to prove intellectual superiority. As I pointed out, I'm quite dumb and was only doing that to shut you up. Anyways, call you later bro.. Play nice, meow. Fuck you guys, I'm out. Ps dont tell my boss I left early and the only work related thing I did all day was having a liquid lunch with my coworker(yes, you know I mean you!)
HAHAHA Hypocrisy is a funny thing, Jordan. See, we all say these things about celebrities in private with our friends, do we not? Are you exempt from the club for some reason? Do you REALLY hold your tongue when people discuss the scandalous things other people do? If not celebrities, then I am sure you don't hold your tongue when it comes to non-celebrities like co-workers, family members, acquaintances, friends of friends, etc? That would make you a saint of some sort, right? A modern day J.C. in our midst, no less. See, the cool thing about technology is that the computer allows us to discuss our views, not only with those in our own personal circle of friends, but also with people from all over the world. Gossiping about the "rich & famous" has happened for centuries. Your self righteous comments are honorable, yes, but they make you look like a complete idiot. Do not act like you are above the people who comment on here. It is obvious to all of us that you think you are going to somehow change the world with your trolling comments, but you won't, and your hypocrisy is unflattering at best.
For the record, Jordan's too young for me.
@AKM, as a former patient in a mental health ward, I can tell you that current day ECT IS a drastic procedure. I made a friend while there who underwent the procedure. Before she went in she was personable, articulate, and funny. For at least 3 days after the treatment she was almost a vegetable. She sat in a chair drooling and moaning and soiling herself. She couldn't speak or do for herself. It scarred me. When I left she was just able to speak again, but couldn't remember my name or our fledgling friendship. ECT is NOT an everyday procedure.
Wow – the most tedious hijack ever
Smells like someone took a big, long, sanctimonious dump in here. Who does that? I mean, what kind of person goes to a web site they don't like to chide people they don't even know? That's so fucking pathetic. You see it all the time, though – twits going out of their way to post a comment on YouTube chiding everyone who likes a certain song as "losers", never realizing how much they're embarrassing themselves, because they are incapable more than the minimal amount of self-awareness it takes to wipe their ass after taking a dump. Even then, their underwear is full of skid marks.
Oh, and no one *lives* here. It takes about 5 minutes a couple times a day to catch up on the gossip, read the comments and maybe post something, but in the remaining 23 or so hours, we all have lives, you simplistic, stupid fuck. I have no patience for people of your ilk. You're tiresome. Begone!
AKM, check my earlier comment. It sounds like you work in this field. I saw something much different and the nurses at my hospital said it was common. Do you see different results on a regular basis?
Martha Plimpton has that show Raising Hope which is likely to be picked up for another season. A person with severe schizophrenia wouldn't be able to deal with taping. If she's hearing voices she's off her meds.
If I'm not mistaken, a great deal of the end result has to do with how much current you receive. I saw a Dateline (or one of those shows) about a woman with severe depression. She would go in about once every three months for ECT. They showed the the treatment and it was very mild. She had some short term memory loss but that's it.
Peter..I officially love you. You are a gentleman and a scholar.
If everyone here actually has lives then why do so many people engage a troll? If you ignore them they go away!
FIrst time poster, longtime licensed mental health professional here.
Hearing voices in one's head could stem from any number of diagnosis, but probably not major depression, which is what ECT is used for.
@Sherry Seconded! I bet that he has many leather-bound books and that his apartment smells of rich mahogany
Interestingly Oliver Sacks wrote a very good book about voices in your head and whether they are not always bad.
@Anna – Typically, ECT is used for mood disorders, yes, but it is sometimes used for schizophrenia when antipsychotics just aren't working for whatever reason. As cleo said, meds for schizophrenia WOULD be the first-line treatment, but it's not entirely out of the realm of possibility that it MIGHT be used for someone with schizophrenia. Not terribly common, though.
@Lauren – I didn't exactly say that it was an "everyday" procedure. How long ago did your fellow patient have that done? Because that is not what I've heard from clients, professors, and other social workers. (Or Carrie Fisher, for that matter, ha ha.) I'm even considering it for myself, and if it were OFOTCN-style, I wouldn't consider it in a million years.
@CrazyCatLady (love that, because so am I) – You have given the most current and correct description of modern-day ECT.
And, all THAT said, I question this blind, period, because if someone IS hearing voices, I still can't imagine what "drastic" treatment would be done. If the person were schizoaffective — which is basically schizophrenia with a mood disorder occurring comorbidly — they MIGHT have ECT. Still, I'd like to know what Enty's "drastic" treatment is.
AKM, almost-MSW and three-time "mental ward patient" (I prefer saying that I spent time in hospitals working on my mental health, which is the truth.)
Maybe take your own advice. .
Lucas is a guy too right?
@anna. This weekend I will figure out how to change my screen name! Sorry- although I almost never post.
@JordanI'm not an American and my joke came from Childrens Hospital, the Adult Swim show. There's an episode in which Chief (Megan Mullally) becomes a mouthpiece for conservatism. It turns out she was prescribed a hearing aid by a phony technician who actually synced it with Fox News. Which was in phase with the theme in the BI of hearing voices in your head. Not that I think more highly of people who would apply by the book liberal ideas to any situation.
Seeing/Assisting/Administering ECT is now NOTHING like that. I know people get scared because they've seen docmentaries. It's like any history of medicine though, treatment improves. Think of it this way; Watch unedited footage of abdominal surgery/burn treatment/amputations, that's scary & horrible but it's all the same. Then there is meds which can cause much much worse, but it's not spectacularly obvious. Treatments not undertaken lightly (benefit outweighs everything else).
As a first time poster, but very long time lurker, and, most importantly, a person who just finished receiving 21 ECT treatments over the last 4 months, I can assure you that ECT is not at all typical of what Lauren described. (Sorry about the run-on sentence!) It is as safe as a minor surgical procedure, extremely humane, and has fewer side effects than many meds used in mental health. It is mostly used for depression, but also treats mania (and some bipolar peeps hear voices during a manic episode). Just setting the record straight…
@JordanAnd the list of outrageous claims by shows on Fox News is too long to list. If you didn't find any exaggeration or disputable claim in what Glenn Back was allowed to say over the years on the networks, there's no hope for the human race.
stop fighting guys! hahahaha
Thanks for the info @ Viqueen – Hope you're doing well!
My mother worked in a mental institution for over 15 years – when she first started there, electric shock therapy was regularly used, but then became controversial and it was discontinued. To this day she still says that for many of the patients she worked with it was better than any drug or 'talk' therapy – especially those battling crippling depression. She said the difference in them before a session and after was incredible.
@YoMismo, it was disgraceful the way CNN covered the Boston Marathon Bombing
@Peter, this is the first time I see you comment and please don't let it be the last!! We need more like you around here
I agree about Peter and @VIP, lol!
For some reason, MacKenzie Phillips came to mind right away. I wish whoever it is, well.
di, they beat them every time.
Don't feed the trolls!
@Nyan Because She was in Awesome show called So Weird about finding ghost?
@ The Real Dragon Because of everything she's been thru in her life. The drugs, the abuse by her father and most of her family not believing her, the exposure to way too much at a very early age. I don't know…makes me wonder if maybe being exploited so much as she obviously was, has something to do with being hospitalised. I admire her for her frankness in what it's like growing up in a showbiz world.
Ok, my ex had ECT and it was NOT a huge deal in a bad way, but in a good way. It saved him. He was cycling badly and was the only thing that gave him relief. He was totally fine afterward. A little short term memory loss, but it didn't last.
Let's not forget me, the other Robert, Jason Blue Eyes, FSP, and John Jacob Jingleheimer Smith!
Also Count Jerkula, and whatever happened to the Kilt God?
Whether your name starts with a J or anything else, if you're here you're interested on some level. So either just lurk and leave the rest of us be or if you must comment, at least make it germane to the topic at hand. So, taking my own advice…. Patricia Arquette? Although when she became "mostly television" is beyond me.
Well bugger off then. You're bringing the rest of us horz down.
@lauren, that sounds horrifying. A guy I went to HS with is an outspoken activist against it because of what it did to one of his relatives.
@Jordan – did you think we were unaware we are poorly behaved?
You really need to go buy yourself a puppy.
And for crying out loud WHERE THE HELL IS SHELLY?!?!
We have MAD LOVE for trolls. They taste like chicken. Chicken burrito troll whores.
I wanted to see what the high volume of comments were about and turns out it's nothing.
Stop fighting and get back to the mindless celebrity gossip!
There is misinformation about modern ECT in the media and general public. It was once viewed as barbaric, and a "drastic" therapy. Unfortunately there is still a stigma attached to it and the patients that receive it. It is considered a humane and well researched treatment primarily for drug resistance major depression.
It can be an inpatient or outpatient procedure, it all depends on the safety of the patient, rapport between physician/patient and if the patient has adequate support to be safe from self-harm as an outpatient.
A psychiatrist, an anesthesiologist (because you are given IV medication and gas via a mask to make you fall asleep) and a nurse are present at the treatment. While you are asleep, they place a bite block in your mouth and give the shocks until they are able to see the shocks have provoked a seizure on the monitor collecting this data. Once the ECT is completed, they let you wake up in a post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) and watch your vital signs until you are stable for discharge.
I think most people on here are very respectful of social issues warranting compassion and empathy. I would ask people to be careful about the language they use to describe mental health issues. Derogatory terms like "psycho" or "loony bin" are really loaded and can be hurtful. I think it's respectful to call a hospital a, "mental health facililty."
It's difficult to be treated when there is such a stigma attached to mental illnesses. Many people see it as a personal failing or weakness, instead of a disease or illness. Cancer patients automatically receive empathy, because, well, it's cancer…same with diabetes or other chronic illnesses. Mental health issues are viewed as a flaw in one's make-up.
There is a wonderful advocacy group that provides education and resources to patients and families about all things related to mental illness. It's called NAMI-National Alliance on Mental Illness. They do a lot of good for this vulnerable population of patients. I count myself among them. I had major depression and received 24 ECT treatments. I have been recovered for over 8 years.
Also, I think it is possible to care about social issues and still enjoy visiting a gossip site–everyone needs some escapism, and who among us isn't nosy as hell and has fun dishing?
If you want to a real account of a doctor's personal journey with ECT, you must read the book by Martha Manning, Undercurrents: A Therapist's Reckoning with Depression. One of her doctor's was my doctor, and he gave me the book to help me make the decision about undergoing ECT.
William Styron, the writer wrote a beautiful book about his battle with depression. I gave it to my family to read, to help them understand how painful depression is, and that it is outside of the sufferer's control.
I hope the subject of the blind has found peace and a sense of well-being. It takes courage to seek help and an incredible will to keep trying for recovery.
Sorry, gang, my mother had shock treatments. They are not humane in any way, but yes, they work..you forget your own name.
"Undercurrents: A Therapist's Reckoning with Depression by Martha Manning, "
Finally, something of value from this post.
The name of the book is, Undercurrents: A Life Beneath the Surface. The copy I have is a pre-print and the name was revised before it went to print. My doctor gave me his copy a gift from her.
I do have some memory loss from that period of time, but I don't regret it. It really is the last resort, I didn't want to do it, but I did it for my parents. I had to try for their sake. Today, my parents and I are super close and supportive…from suffering came beauty, my relationship with them…I don't know if we would have such a real, intimate relationship if we hadn't walked through hell together.
I found it on Amazon:
@nyan I was joking lol. but yeah I could see why by the info you just shared
"Procedures" are not performed for hearing voices – psychosis. It it treated with anti-psychotics and possibly mood stabilizers. Way to spread more misinformation about mental illness! It isn't 1938!
Hi mini-thread on ECT my experience (very close family member) was a blend of what Lauren and AKM said; *so* not a simple procedure and he was in a terrible state for some time; couple months. He had two therapies, one day and the next when they deemed the first wasn't enough, which was apparently because he was a left-hand person with an extremely high IQ – this combination meant that it required 'more.' It was so rough, on him and on us too. So much so that it took a bit for me to realise, after a while, just how amazing the result was. Brilliant, he was actually happy and the demons (there was never a 'thing' that caused his depression, no big dark experience I mean) were gone. After that there were still times that weren't so good – but for him, for us, it was life-changing experience that was so positive. It literally saved his life, and also made his life one that was worth living.
Long post, but feel strongly about this. It was a tough call for him to make but it was right. If you or a family member is in the care of good mental health professionals and they recommend ECT, don't just write it off. For us out was a God-send.
Ugh….don't feed the bears folks…..
dl butler–Did you know that Pew is now headed by the former editor of WSJ, which, coincidentally, is owned by Murdoch, which, of course, also owns Fox?
I was being flippant, I really wouldn't rather have ECT, & have full sympathy for whomever this person is. I really don't need to know. That said, tv news/talk/opinion shows are brain rot, condensed down to an average of a 4th grade reading/comprehension level for those dumb/lazy to learn about reality. I think they are a million times worse and more dangerous to the culture than shows about simple whores and addicts chasing fleeting fame. Those are what is known in literature as "cautionary tales."
