Shania married her meal ticket. I worked in country at the time and the joke was that if she tried to divorce him, he would release her outtakes. He really was the one who put her on the map (though it really shows in some of her songs that he used to produce Def Leppard. He's kind of a one trick pony)

He supposedly sees her in a late night low budget song video and 'falls in love' with her voice (oh please) then she takes the music scene by storm (even branching out to EZ listening and Top 40) His influence was still pretty big at the time behind the scenes so I have an inkling that had something to do with it. Then, after not going a week without being papped, she suddenly get's pregnant and they disappear to the Swiss Alps or somewhere and not a pic is taken in over a year. Shady stuff, then again the inernet wasn't that big then (mid-late 90's) so that may have something to do with the lack of pics. Wasn't she reportedly fooling around with her Bf's husband too? The rumors were conflicting at the time. One was that she was practicing a meditation that ruled out sex, the other was that she cheated too.
All I know is that she dropped out of sight like *snap* that.

As far as Country awards shows, their egos are just as big as the others, they just say "Thank you" with a twang and a ya'll thrown in.; 1:40 PM
